You are right on JH. Driver and 3, and 5 metal 20 yards longer. Irons are only 10 yards longer. I work out 5 days a week and I have been playing since I was 7 and I hit balls and play 5 days a week when I not injured. I average a little over 300 rounds a year. I'm getting ready for golf again. Tank you for the new swing.
You must be happy to pick up extra distance with all clubs.. playing as many rounds a year as you do and hit as many balls as you do .. you should be able to get this swing locked down fairly quickly. Where its nice to pick up extra 'distance' with a new swing type.. I think you will be even more happy with the quality and accuracy of short shots that this swing will give you... most of the time the real improvement in scoring is when you can hit the ball close to the flag from inside 110 yards .. and this swing will do that for you. Cheers JH
Been a while JH. For all of us over 75 year olds this gem is adding many more years of golf enjoyment. It takes a while to get the elements working as a unit but you can play with it after only a few sessions on the practice range. Thanks for all your hard work. We miss you and pray you are well.
Hi George, It has been a while , however I really hope to be back on the practice tee soon, hopefully within the next 2 weeks, life unfortunately throws up things at times that take all you time and consideration for other people, I have been going through one of those times. Cheers JH
Hi JH Just spotted your new video.I was still playing Channel lock. But since having two heart attacks at Christmas now on rehab. This new swing will be just right for me.Tried it in the garden like, being born again. The key to me is the wrist hinge and low around the body.Easy swing. Thanks again for all over eighties. Art
Hi Art, Glad the video resonated with you.. I just believe we need to never stop looking for swing variations as we get older.. 'yesterdays' body invariably doesnt stay compliant with us as we get older... we need to 'adjust' our swings to suit the changing physical facets of increased aging. cheers JH
Hi JH, several weeks ago I decided to start experimenting with my driver swing. I just started slinging the club around my body instead of lifting and turning the upper body. The result of that experiment was tremendous power and distance with good accuracy. I haven’t tried it with my irons yet.
Hi Ronnie, If you got the process working straight away with the driver.. you should have no trouble with the irons.. the shorter shaft of the irons and heavier clubhead should make it easier to to get the 'feel' of the clubhead momentum loading itself up on the backswing. Cheers JH
OMG! You're really on to something with this swing. I am a retired College Professor who took up golf at age 68 (now 83 w/Cancer). I have read, watched, and purchased almost every golf book and system out there. My quest to find the golf swing with the fewest moving parts (with incredible accuracy and very good distance) is over! When I first watched the Short, Accelerated Golf Swing-I thought "This can never work". Boy, was I wrong! One trip to the driving range and I was convinced. The joy of golf has returned. Can't wait to hit the next ball-because I know it will probably be a good one. The frosting on the cake is that it works with all my clubs, including Driver.
Hi Pat, The good thing about this swing is that it is easy to apply to 'all' clubs.. it only has one specific thought process.. just throw the clubhead backward as briskly 'around' your body as you can and do not try to put it anywhere specifically.. just feel heavy hands and let them just swing naturally 'around' the body... not 'outside' the body.. or 'away' from the body. When I am swinging the club well I feel as if I am an octopus on a turntable with my tentacles outstretched around me .. the tentacles just hanging loose and free.. and if someone spun the turntable the tentacles would just wrap themselves around my body. In the Golf swing, we substitute the turntable getting pushed around causing the tentacles to be wrapped around the body ...with the hands creating the turntable momentum-slinging force... and of course, the octopus in question is one that doesn't have suckers on his tentacles to keep the tentacles attached to the turntable. Isn't it great to find something new for your golf swing at 83 years old.. as Moe Norman once said to me .. You can always learn something about the golf swing every day of your life. Cheers JH
Hi JH hope all is well with you I still watch your Moe Norman videos lots of good information in those videos. Hope to see you on the practice tee soon.
I hope to be back on the practice tee in the near future.. and I will be revisiting Moe Norman mechanics once again.. got a few new insights into his swing mechanics that I didnt have before. Cheers Jh
Thanks JH for your videos over the years. You have encouraged me to swing differently to the convention. For years I tried to swig the conventional way but it never worked for me but I kept trying because I thought that was the only way to swing. But now I do what works for me and I am getting much better results. I is a bit Moe Norman and a bit channel lock but it works for me. Thanks for encouraging me to think outside the square.
Hi Andrew, Glad some of my videos worked for you.. the whole idea of my Golf channel is to provide swing alternatives to try... not everyone is comfortable swinging a certain way... everyone's body reacts differently to body forces and balance requirements etc. I have always thought its worthwhile trying something different on occasions ... there could be a swing type that is just compatible with your body mechanics.. but you will never know if that swing 'is' the one for you... if you dont give it a try. Cheers JH
Hi JH, Just want to wish you a very happy Christmas and every best wish for 2025. I'm sure all your subscribers will join with me in saying we miss you and hope you are in good health. Your channel is a continuing source of knowledge about the golf swing. All the best from West Cork, Ireland. Tony.
JH, now that you have detailed the swing process using your shoulders, I should be able to stop hitting it fat on occasion. I have had some success using this method especially my driver which goes straighter and farther than my old swing. I am just inconsistent wit my irons. Thanks JH.
Hi Larry, If you are hitting any clubs fat constently.. just try moving the ball back in your stance ..invariably that cures the fat shots.. you need to try that on the practice range really.. just incrementally put the ball a bit further back at address until you stop hitiing the ball fat. The single biggest issue I have seen with rank and file golfers over the years was the ball being to far forward at address..the player's swing was ok most times.. but the ball just wasnt where the club found its natural bottom of the downswing arc. The ball can creep up forward in the stance and you dont notice it ... just try that.. . Additionally when the ball does creep forward at address it will also open the shoulders at impact.. causing pulls and drags to occur.. .its not so destructive with the driver because the swing path is up with the driver .. not down as it is with the irons. Cheers JH
73, just starting to get light pain in left hip, thought I give your channel lock ago. Never hit the ball sweeter and of course keeping my weight on the trail leg, helps my hip problem, brilliant
At 73 with this swing you have many years left playing Golf. .. I think the swing is very conducive to providing a less stressful physical application of body parts in the Golf swing. Cheers JH
Hey JH! Great to see you back!...The reason this video really draws my interest is the fact that I struggle with my driver unless I bring the club back very flat and, almost behind my back...I can usually hit a nice draw with that move but everytime I try and get more conventional with the take away, I struggle with a block or a slice...I don't buy the conventional wisdom that by taking the club back flat, you will come over the top...Although your video concentrates on iron work, I know that this method works with a driver as well...CHEERS MATE!!! Tony Shans
Hi Tony, The method works with all the clubs..and really you need a swing method to work for 'all' clubs ... you dont want a swing that you have to apply something different with the driver or longer clubs.. we didnt see Hogan.. Doug Sanders.. Matt Kuchar etc... come over the shot .. and they all swung the club on a flat plane... Kuchar is like 6' 3.. and he swings the shaft way under his right shoulder.. with every club. I agree with you about conventional wisdom and the condemnation of the flat swing plane .. the flat swing plane doesnt cause the club to get over the top in the downswing .. starting the golf swing with the 'upper' body causes that to happen . Glad this swing works for you.. I would think sacrificing a 'bit' of distance is usually an acceptable trade off if the quality of strike and accuracy is improved. Cheers mate.
Hey JH...I took your advice and incorporated this swing with all my clubs and I can report that it has worked seamlessly....The only deviation I incorporate in the flatter take away with the longer irons and hybrids is a slight hesitation or pause and that seems to really button up this method...Cheers and Best of Health..Tony...@@1atomicgolf
Great video JH. I can't wait to get out and try it. This answers a lot of questions I had. I played yesterday and had better shots playing the ball back in my stance. I found when I would try and take a bigger backswing I was still pulling it. I'm glad you said you have a soft grip because I felt like I had to much tension in mine. I was not releasing the club correctly also. I really think this is going to be a very reliable and repeatable swing that you are teaching. Thanks so much for all your help and please keep these video's coming.
Hi Craig, I think this swing will be more reliable becaue its more controllable because of its reduced range of motion.. simply stated.. there is just less distance the clubhead has to travel in the swing which lessens the potential for it to get offline or out of position. Additionaly a shorter range of motion swing is easier to stabilize the body during the swing.. overall balance of the body in motion is more easilly achieved when the clubhead is not moving away from the body center of mass to much.. ie..trying to force undue extension of the hands/arms away from the body center in the backswing..sideways..or upwards. Cheers JH
So well said and I can't wait to try it out today. I am playing an emergency 9, lol before I go to work on nights. Working 3pm to 3am making electricity for Houston and the great state of Texas. Thanks again for this swing and your quick response I really appreciate it very much. One more thing can you show this swing with the driver in a future video?@@1atomicgolf
JH, we truly miss you. You were a real treasure in the latest Martin Ayers series. Just making sure you're doing OK and thanking you for all you've done to inspire me and help my game. -Joe
Hi Joe, Im Ok, I hope to be back on the practice tee. within 2 weeks, I have a lot of new stuff. to. explore for the Golf Swing in general ,and Iv got some new cameras and audio so the videos should be way better. quality,....thanks for enquiring . Cheers JH
This swing works, although I still hit it longer with yogi channel lock. This reminds me of Swing the Clubhead endorsed by Ernest Jones and Manuel de la Torre, although they pretty much wanted you to swing the club over your left shoulder with your hands and over your right shoulder with your arms. I am really glad that I came across your videos, as they have been extremely helpful.
Glad my videos have been helpful for you .. this swing very definately emphasises 'swinging' the clubhead.. in fact the entire backswing intention is to get the clubhead flinging/swinging as much as possible .. if you fling the clubhead backwards in the backswing it has to invoke a 'swinging' action... and a 'swinging' action in the backswing will invariably construct the same action in the downswing. Cheers JH
Hi Bruce, I just try to stay centered as I am at address right throughout the backswing and downswing, I dont do anything radical with my weight distribution... I just try to be balanced and cetered during the entire swing. Cheers JH
It looks like left arm on chest going back, and right arm on chest coming through. Is that correct JH? feels ver connected to the rotation that way to me.
Hi Ross, Its more keeping the lead shoulder high and 'outwards' in the backswing.. and the trail shoulder high and outwards as well in the downswing. Those two things will get the hands/arms staying at the shoulder level in stead of flying off above the shoulder level.. and that process will definately feel connected for sure....and of course by doing all of that the swing will get more rotation on a level plane as apposed to a more vertical steep pitch and diving of the shoulder girdle . Cheers JH
hi JH. When do you feel the release of the wrists and clubhead in this swing .Is it natural and just happens if grip pressure is correct or is their a conscious unhinging of the wrists which surely takes a lot of timing which could be an issue for high handicappers like me .Also how much of a shoulder turn is required or do you not think to much about that as essentially this is an arm swing. I have been struggling with fat shots and think maybe I do not have enough turn in my swing. Your age and fitness is an inspiration to me. I am 77 and feel this is a good method for older golfers
Hi Kenneth, I try to think of the cluabhed as a tennis ball on a string and how you have to feel the weight of the tennis ball pulling on the string when You when you get the tennis ball swinginging in a circle around your wrist/forearm . As well I try to emulate the softness of the hand grip and its mobility. during the swinging motion of the tennis ball when I am swinging the golf club head in the golf swing. I dont think about. the amount of shoulder turn I make, I just throw the clubhead away from the ball in the backswing as loosly and unrestricted as I can. which creates a lot of momentum in the clubhead and that momentum moves the clubhead as far as it needs to travel in the backswing, the shoulders/body turn will be created by the clubhead momentum, not by consciuosly trying to. turn the shoulders a specific amount. The shoulders/body need to be ...responders..in the golf swing..not. initiators .. just let the clubhead go where. the freedom of its momentum takes it...and the momentum freedom will set the wrist cocking on the backswing.. and the release uncocking in the downswing. Never try to position the clubhead in the backswing.. just let the momentum of the clubhead do all the positioning .. the clubhead has to move in a free orbit. around the body, you cant deliberately. ..position.. the clubhead anywhere in the backswing or downswing...uninhibited momentum will do all the positioning automatically. Cheers JH
My name is Ernesto. I am from Laredo, Texas. Not sure how to change my user name, but will look into it. i have truly enjoyed as many videos as i have been able to watch . I am 77 years old. Good on you, mate.
Hi Ernesto, I have been to Laredo in Texas.. Texas is a great state.. being an Australian I found Texas people very similar to Australians in their down to earth outlook on life. So glad my videos have been enjoyable for you.. hopefully some of the videos will help you crerate an ongoing reliable golf swing. Cheers mate.
JH I have been trying a swing based on Bryson DeChambeau. I swing back and up and just return the clubhead to the ball with no hands intention. The ball flies extremely straight if done correctly. The club head returns very square with little effort. At the moment I have to go up one club for the same distance as normal but the benefit is the straight hit. I am not sure if this is a MO swing but it is very effective for hitting a straight shot especially when pitching . Maybe at some time you could give this a Video and give your opinion on this type of swing.. regards as always TONY.
Hi Tony, The Dechambeau type swing can be very effective.. the single plane aspect removes a lot of setup angles requirements maintanence.. as long as you maintain passive hands throughout the swing the swing will perform quite consitently . The swing has a lot of Moe's swing aspects in it for sure... I will be doing a revision of Moe's swing process in the coming weeks. Cheers Jh
Hi Joe, I have becasuse of family requirements had to take an extendede break from the JH practice tee.. however I hope to be freed up again to get back on the practice tee soon and resume investigations of a number of new aspects of golf swing mechanics etc.. with the Martin Ayers methodology being one of the more important investigation completions. Cheers JH
Great video,JH. I have been utilizing channel lock with great results with the short irons. I often hit my 3metal a bit fat. I had not read the suggestion to choke down on all fairway woods, but I will try to do so tomorrow. Any other suggestion would be greatly appreciated. I tried this short swing yesterday, and really hit my sand wedge great. Can this be used for chipping? I sometimes tend to shank my chips and short pitches. I really like channel lock with yogi drag back for loading.
The method can be used for 'all' shots.. the reason you could be shanking some of your chips is because you are trying to bguide the clubhead into the ball at impact.. when you do that you invariably stop the natural path attack to the ball and restrict the clubface release. The secret of good chipping impact is to not interfere with the clubhead coming into impact.. just let it flow with the natural direction forces.. just let the ball get in the way of the clubface.. dont try and 'put' the clubface on the ball at impact. Hitting the ball fat with the longer clubs is usually the result of not keeping the lead shoulder closed at impact .. if the lead shoulder gets open at impact the trail arm will get to far away from the body coming into impact and the attack plane will become to steep and the clubhead will get into the ground before impact. Concentrate on really keeping your nose pointed to the right of the ball at impact ( right handed player) ... that will keep the attack path of the club shallow coming into the ball and create a sweeping attack angle instead of an early steep attack angle into the ground before impact. Cheers JH
I wonder if you could comment on the 'JH/Martin Ayers Swing Project' - what has stuck - what you might have adjusted to work for you? - in a future video. thanks for your videos - I feel your comments are very helpful. Cheers.
Hi Robyn, I will be doing an explanation video of the Martin Ayers swing methodology soon .. I need to finish learning the process completely before I start talking about 'how' the swing actually works.. I want to absolutely be understanding the process before I start suggesting how the process should be applied. Cheers JH
Hey JH how are you doing? Everything okay or are you taking another break? Where did you go? Hey JH I see you responded 9 days ago. Again are you okay? I hope all is well with you. Plus I would love to see more videos on your swing. So please let us know what is going on with you. I know we all hope you’re doing well.
Hi Craig, Thanks for enquiring.. I have taken a break .. like most people priorities crop up that require your major input. Hopefully I will be back on the practice tee in a few weeks. cheers JH
Thanks for the reply. So glad you are okay. I was worried about you. Looking forward to seeing some more videos from you. I’m hitting the ball pretty straight but have lost distance. I’m hoping you can help me with this. Take care of yourself 1st always so you can help us hackers later.
Thanks for the swing endorsement, I personaly think. the swing. is mechanically. better. for. creating. clean. club to ball contact because of the rearward ball positioning and. the requirement for the. shoulders to be closed at impact. because. of the ball positioning. Glad the swing. has. worked for you. Cheers JH
@@1atomicgolf yes exactly. here's how i try to explain it to my friends: the most challenging part of golf for the human anatomy is maintaining an in-to-out trajectory on the down swing. it goes against all of our human intuition because the object is in front of us like we're chopping wood overhand. in channel lock, you've moved the object to the left side of our vision and stance, which enables the mind to adopt the intuitive motion of chopping down a tree, which supports the golf swing. namely, we keep our hips and shoulders closed, thus forcing the in-to-out trajectory till impact. we're going underneath our shrouded/closed left shoulder, as opposed to timing the shoulders to be perfectly square at impact. one thing you have to get right though is the pivot. if your pelvis slides to the trail side then anything can happen. the way i have to imagine it is that my lead knee, trail hip, and spine, are twisting together clockwise into a rope. then, after the transition pulls the hands back to their starting position, you can uncoil the rope through the shot. meanwhile, the shrouded lead shoulder is like a gate that you're holding up for the entire swing so the rope can coil and uncoil underneath it.
Hi Tony, Hope you had a nice Xmas as well.. and of course, I hope the coming year will be a good one for you and your family as well...hope to be back on the practice tee very soon with a lot of good new stuff to talk about. Cheers mate
Hey JH how are you doing? Everything okay or are you taking another break? Where did you go now? Man we would really like to hear from you again. I really like this swing I just wish I could get a little more distance. After watching it again I'm going to try some things tomorrow. Please respond to let all of us know you are okay!!
Hi Craig, Good to hear from you.. I'm OK.. I have just had a lot of family commitments over the last 6 months which has taken up all my spare time. I really hope to be back on the practice tee hopefully by end of next week. I want to get back on the practice tee because I have a lot of new stuff to talk about. Cheers mate.
@@1atomicgolf So glad your okay and I'm really glad to hear you will be doing video's again. It will be great to get your awesome wisdom again. Can't wait to see what you have been working on I'm sure it will be great. Thanks for responding and cheers to you also.
Hiya JH been using CL hitting some great drivers with it now and now quite good of the fairways with my woods as my clubs go from 5 wood to 13 wood with CL i have trouble getting out of the rough do i need to do anything different I tried opening the face but doesn't seem to work. My swing is not that fast i hit my driver about 190 and 5 wood 160 as my swing is slow i think i can't hit out of the rough very well. Is there anything you can tell me to maybe increase my swing speed cheers Steve
Hi Steve, You just have to move the ball forward in your stance with shots from the rough..CL creates a very shallow attack plane into the ball at impact because of the trail foot ball positioning.. and as result the clubface gets at ground level early in the move to impact.. which because grass in the rough is longer than fairway height grass the clubface will pick up that longer grass before impact. You just have to make that adjustment with the CL swing for shots out of the rough... even though the ball is further up in the stance at impact when you move the ball up.. so long as you concentrate on keeping the lead shoulder closed at impact the ball will still start a bit right of the targetline as it does with the normal CL swing. Shots from the rough just require a steeper attack angle into the ball at impact to eliminate catching grass before impact....with CL its no different.. we just have to steepen the attack angle at impact.. and because a shot from the rough is not a std shot.. we normally with any type of swing should be steepening the attack angle for impact. Cheers JH
Hi JH i played today after reading your reply telling me to move the ball forward in the rough and use a lofted wood it works i don't know why it works i thought moving the ball forward i would top it more. I've been watching all your CL videos and used chipping like the full swing back foot back cock it works your are amazing I'm just going to listen to you as the swing doesn't hurt my body as much as a normal swing does. Hope you are OK and mybe get back to the practice area soon cheers Steve
Hi Steve, Sorry for the delay in replying, I think my videos can be worthwhile in doing revisions of them after long periods of time etc.. because the base explanation of the swing mechanics isnt going to change.. but our uptake appreciation can change with time application. Im doing ok at present, I have just needed a break from the practice tee .. I hope to be back on the practice tee in the near future. Cheers JH
The Driver swing has exactly the same requirements. as. the iron swing, in fact. every club is. swung exactly as I suggest in the video. The main emphasis. is that of keeping the hands from deliberately elevating in the backswing... just turn the lead shoulder as horizontally as you can in the backswing. dont deliberately in any way try to elevate the hands or clubhead in the backswing. The ball flight with the driver will be. flatter and more penetrating. and will. run further on landing. Just think. about turning your shoulders. as you would if you were standing normally. and had to turn. to your right to shake hands with someone. without turning to face them , just a. horizontal. turning of the shoulders. no dipping of the point of the shoulder at all. Cheers JH
Hi Ryan, I. hope to be back on the practice Tee in the very near future, and I have lots of new. stuff I think will be very interesting and worthwhile. for just about. everyone. Cheers JH
I Martin Ayers is finalising his swing development and I think he will be formalising that final development programe fairly soon.. I dont have a timeframe when Martin and I will be talking about the finished swing iteration he has now come up with.. hopefully it will be in the near future. Cheers JH
How far do you hit a 7 iron, I am curious, because I am 65 years old with stage 4 cancer, but I did try your method, but can only get 145 yards out of it, but I think I am on to something
Hi Michael, I carry a 7 iron 147-150 yards.. which is adequant for my age and swing speed.. if you have hit your 7 iron further than you experienced with my suggested swing you should be able to get that distance with my swing after you get used to the new process... If you can hit your 7 iron constently straight at 145-150 yards distance you should hit a lot of greens in regulation ... and reasonably close to the pin. Cheers JH
Hey JH JH here... I may have the cherry on top for your channel swing... I will keep it short... 1...at address square club face to target and the ball back as usual 2...take your grip whike keeping club head square to target 3...engage shoulder closur as usual 4...here is the cherry do the Moe start.. with the club head grounded away from the ball as far as needed/comfortable to eliminate as much possible backswing as possible without ungrounding it That's it... feeling of greatness thanks for all you do , your ideas are invaluable to all of us God bless
That procedure is certainly effectively useable for Channel Lock.. applying Moe's placing of the clubhead away from the ball at address causing the swing to already be 'into' the backswing at address will be an asset to the swing process for sure. The only thing I would alter is having the clubface sqare to the target at address.. because the CL swing has an attack path of around 6 degs in to out at impact you need the clubface a bit closed at address to offset the in to out attack path .. a straight clubface at address will be slightly open at impact because of the path direction... and will result in a straight push ball flight.. the closed clubface at address and then impact will impart some draw spin on the ball and bring the ball back to the target. If I want to hit a leak push fade shot I actually just set the clubface square at address and the ball just flies in a straight push shot direction and gently falls off to the right slightly at the end of the flight. .. but all in all you setup procedure is emminently applicable. Cheers JH
Have recently discovered you and really enjoy all your videos and content. You really choose some of the outside of conventional approaches to the game and I think that’s awesome. Your video on bill melhorn has really helped me. Would you say what you are doing here is similar to melhorn? Thanks
Hi Joseph, The Melhorn swing mechanics are definately intrinsically integrated into the Short controled Accelleration swing.. particularly the aspects of ..rotary pivoting... and low arc clubhead natural circular path movement. In Melhorn's swing the body never 'gets in the way' of the swinging clubhead.. the body just provides a stable base for the clubhead/arms to swing 'around'. I must revisit Melhorn's swing process.. it has so much simplicity of swing dynamics efficiency in it. Cheers JH
Hi Craig, Im ok.. I have been tied up with a lot of other stuff of late.. I hope to get back into some normality of regularity on the practice tee soon. Cheers JH
Hi Bill, Mr X is still about.. he just has very little time these days to play golf ..as with life in general priorities change for different reasons etc. cheers JH
Hiya JH glad to see you are alright i play with your channel lock swing as my back left hip and left knee hurts most of the time but my bad shot starts down the middle and draws hard left or i pull it straight left not very often push it straight right. I say to myself when i set up back foot back cock 5 o'clock nose then drag the club back by the side of my body i think I'm doing everything right but still hit them bad shots an ideas what I'm might be getting wrong thank Steve
Hi Steve, Really the CL swing is just the absolute application of commitment to a specific upper body 'Geometry' setting at impact. That being in order to 'guarantee' the clubhead/face will always be traveling 'in to out' at impact.. and the ball flight 'starting' out to the right of the targetline... the lead shoulder( left shoulder for a right-handed player) must always be 'up'' and 'closed' at impact. The reality of body mechanics is such that it is virtually impossible to have the clubhead/face moving out to in across the target line at impact; if; the shoulders are closed at impact.. and in particular if the lead shoulder is up and pointing to the right of the targetline line at impact. Even if the clubface is severely closed at impact.. if the lead shoulder is closed at impact the ball will always 'start out to the right of the targetline.. depending on how much the clubface is closed at impact will determine the severity of the ball flight moving back across the targetline and going to the left. But.. even though the ball will end up going left after impact.. it will still have 'started' to the right after impact.. the only reason it ended up going left across the target line direction was because of the amount of severity the clubface was closed at impact.. you just have to work out how much you need the clubface closed at impact to get the amount of 'push drae'; you want on the std shot. The shots you are experiencing that are going 'left to left' across the target line are because even though you 'think' your lead shoulder is 'closed' at impact.. it clearly is not.. the clubhead/face cannot track 'across' the target line left at impact if the lead shoulder is 'closed' at impact.. that is just a noncontestable biomechanical geometry fact of motion .. you just cannot track the clubhead 'out to in' across the targetline if your lead shoulder is closed at impact. SO.. you have to really bear down on making sure your lead shoulder is 'closed' at impact .. I mean you really have to emphasize doping that .. The best way to get the feeling of that lead shoulder really being closed at impact .. is to take say an 8 iron and hit some half to 3/4 shots and really concentrate on keeping the lead shoulder closed and 'high' at impact.. just concentrate on that aspect only.. and you will feel what the sensation is like to keep that lead shoulder in that position with every swing you make. The bottom line is that those bad left-to-left shots you experience 'cannot' occur if the lead shoulder is high and closed at impact.. those bad left-to-left shots are absolutely the result of the lead shoulder not being closed up at impact .. its just not possible to hit those bad left to left shots when your lead shoulder is high and closed at impact.. the law of applied body geometry will just not allow the ball to 'start' left at impact 'if' the lead shoulder is up and closed at impact.. just cannot happen .. just hit some of those half shots and really commit to keeping the lead shoulder up and closed at impact.. The other thing to understand is that the longer the golf club gets.. the more commitment you have to give to keeping the lead shoulder high and closed at impact.. that is because the extra amount of motion that takes place as the club gets longer just puts more pressure on the lead shoulder to want to open up at impact.. you just have to resist that wanting of the lead shoulder to open at impact.. the commitment factor is inordinately specific as a requirement.. it just has to be applied .. Cheers JH
Cheers JH I played today after reading your reply and done what you said about the lead shoulder I added a few sentences to my set up and swing back foot back cock 5oclock nose then drag inside swing outside i was hitting some lovely draw shots starting down the right side of the fairway back to the middle really good with the driver more straighter with fairway woods and not as high now you have told me what to do i hope i can improve Cheers Steve
Thank you for your comments. I would really like to know how you managed to visit Laredo , Texas. I am using yogi channel lock for for full swings and SCA for pitches and long chips. will keep you posted on my progress.
I visited Texas in the early 90's to compete in a Senior Tour qualifying event in San Antonio.. I was in the US for a holiday and had always wanted to visit Texas cities /towns.. I visited most of the main cities and some of the smaller towns .. Laredo being one of them .. a friend who lived in San Antonio had a brother who lived in Laredo and we went to visit him one day. I had heard of the Rio Grande River and wanted to actually see it .. I was actually disappointed when I did see it because I thought it was a massive size river ..like the Nile or the Mississippi River or alike because of its historical notoriety .. but it was the same size as local rivers in the area where I lived in Australia.. still, it was good to see it after hearing about it for so long... when I see all the immigrants walking across it these days its a pity it isn't a big treacherous deep river .. maybe that would discourage people from trying to cross it . Cheers JH
I am totally in agreement with you concerning the river. Hopefully, the next administration will be able to bring the situation back to normal. Thank you for prompt reply. Salud, Ernesto@@1atomicgolf
Hi Alan, All is well.. had to take a break from the practice tee for a while.. will be back very soon with some interesting swing mechanics processes I have been researching. Cheers JH
Excellent instruction JH. This is really helping my hands sweeping the ball. I'm hitting it happy.
' Happy Hitting'.. that has to be the way to swing a Golf club..
Cheers JH
You are right on JH. Driver and 3, and 5 metal 20 yards longer. Irons are only 10 yards longer.
I work out 5 days a week and I have been playing since I was 7 and I hit balls and play
5 days a week when I not injured. I average a little over 300 rounds a year. I'm getting
ready for golf again.
Cheers JH
Yes JH, I need to practice what you call the money shot. And to chip with the this
swing. I have always been upright with my chip shots. Thank you.
Been a while JH. For all of us over 75 year olds this gem is adding many more years of golf enjoyment. It takes a while to get the elements working as a unit but you can play with it after only a few sessions on the practice range. Thanks for all your hard work. We miss you and pray you are well.
Hi George,
It has been a while , however I really hope to be back on the practice tee soon, hopefully within the next 2 weeks, life unfortunately throws up things at times that take all you time and consideration for other people, I have been going through one of those times.
Art
Hi Art,
Glad the video resonated with you..
Hi Ronnie,
If you got the process working straight away with the driver.. you should have no trouble with the irons.. the shorter shaft of the irons and heavier clubhead should make it easier to to get the 'feel' of the clubhead momentum loading itself up on the backswing.
Cheers JH
Hi Pat,
The good thing about this swing is that it is easy to apply to 'all' clubs.. it only has one specific thought process.. just throw the clubhead backward as briskly 'around' your body as you can and do not try to put it anywhere specifically.. just feel heavy hands and let them just swing naturally 'around' the body... not 'outside' the body.. or 'away' from the body.
When I am swinging the club well I feel as if I am an octopus
on a turntable with my tentacles outstretched around me .. the tentacles just hanging loose and free.. and if someone spun the turntable the tentacles would just wrap themselves around my body.
Hi Andrew,
Glad some of my videos worked for you.. the whole idea of my Golf channel is to provide swing alternatives to try... not everyone is comfortable swinging a certain way... everyone's body reacts differently to body forces and balance requirements etc.
Thanks JH.
Hi Larry,
If you are hitting any clubs fat constently.. just try moving the ball back in your stance ..invariably that cures the fat shots.. you need to try that on the practice range really.. just incrementally put the ball a bit further back at address until you stop hitiing the ball fat.
Tony Shans
Hi Tony,
The method works with all the clubs..and really you need a swing method to work for 'all' clubs ... you dont want a swing that you have to apply something different with the driver or longer clubs.. we didnt see Hogan..
Thanks for the prompt response, JH....I'll take your advice and incorporate this method with my irons...Cheers Mate!!
Hi Craig,
I think this swing will be more reliable becaue its more controllable because of its reduced range of motion.. simply stated.. there is just less distance the clubhead has to travel in the swing which lessens the potential for it to get offline or out of position.

Hi Joe,

@@1atomicgolf this is GREAT NEWS JH! Can you tease out right now if you’re still on the journey with Martin’s swing or are you exploring other swings?
Cheers JH
Very helpful. Can you please discuss your weight at address and at back swing and finish
Hi Bruce,
I just try to stay centered as I am at address right throughout the backswing and downswing, I dont do anything radical with my weight distribution... I just try to be balanced and cetered during the entire swing.
Cheers JH
It looks like left arm on chest going back, and right arm on chest coming through. Is that correct JH? feels ver connected to the rotation that way to me.
Hi Ross,
Its more keeping the lead shoulder high and 'outwards' in the backswing.. and the trail shoulder high and outwards as well in the downswing.
Cheers JH

So glad my videos have been enjoyable for you.. hopefully some of the videos will help you crerate an ongoing reliable golf swing.

Hi Tony,
The Dechambeau type swing can be very effective.. the single plane aspect removes a lot of setup angles requirements maintanence.. as long as you maintain passive hands throughout the swing the swing will perform quite consitently .
The swing has a lot of Moe's swing aspects in it for sure... I will be doing a revision of Moe's swing process in the coming weeks.
Cheers Jh
JH, we miss you. Are you still on the journey with Martin’s swing or have you moved on to something else?
Hi Joe,
I have becasuse of family requirements had to take an extendede break from the JH practice tee.. however I hope to be freed up again to get back on the practice tee soon and resume investigations of a number of new aspects of golf swing mechanics etc.. with the Martin Ayers methodology being one of the more important investigation completions.

Cheers.
Hi Robyn,

I want to absolutely be understanding the process before I start suggesting how the process should be applied.

hey JH i'm 100% into channel lock now and it's truly the best possible swing for the vast majority of golfers.
Thanks for the swing endorsement, I personaly think. the swing. is mechanically. better. for. creating. clean. club to ball contact because of the rearward ball positioning and. the requirement for the. shoulders to be closed at impact. because. of the ball positioning.
Glad the swing. has. worked for you.

Hi Steve,
You just have to move the ball forward in your stance with shots from the rough..CL creates a very shallow attack plane into the ball at impact because of the trail foot ball positioning.. and as result the clubface gets at ground level early in the move to impact.. which because grass in the rough is longer than fairway height grass the clubface will pick up that longer grass before impact.

@@1atomicgolf I understand JH, you have done so much for us, I glad you are taking time for yourself. Health and Peace to you.
JH, you have really changed my golf game for the better. Is there any difference for the driver?
Cheers JH

How far do you hit a 7 iron, I am curious, because I am 65 years old with stage 4 cancer, but I did try your method, but can only get 145 yards out of it, but I think I am on to something
Hi Michael,
I carry a 7 iron 147-150 yards.. which is adequant for my age and swing speed.. if you have hit your 7 iron further than you experienced with my suggested swing you should be able to get that distance with my swing after you get used to the new process...
If you can hit your 7 iron constently straight at 145-150 yards distance you should hit a lot of greens in regulation ... and reasonably close to the pin.

Hey JH
JH here...
I may have the cherry on top for your channel swing...
I will keep it short...
1...at address square club face to target and the ball back as usual
2...take your grip whike keeping club head square to target
3...engage shoulder closur as usual
4...here is the cherry
do the Moe start..
with the club head grounded away from the ball as far as needed/comfortable to eliminate as much possible backswing as possible without ungrounding it
That's it...
feeling of greatness
thanks for all you do ,
your ideas are invaluable to all of us
God bless
Thanks
Hi Joseph,
The Melhorn swing mechanics are definately intrinsically integrated into the Short controled Accelleration swing.. particularly the aspects of ..rotary pivoting... and low arc clubhead natural circular path movement.
In Melhorn's swing the body never 'gets in the way' of the swinging clubhead.. the body just provides a stable base for the clubhead/arms to swing 'around'.
I must revisit Melhorn's swing process.. it has so much simplicity of swing dynamics efficiency in it.

Hi Steve,
Really the CL swing is just the absolute application of commitment to a specific upper body 'Geometry' setting at impact.

Wow that’s how I’ve been practicing ❤ it works
So glad to hear it works for you.

JH, all is well?
Hi Alan,
All is well.. had to take a break from the practice tee for a while.. will be back very soon with some interesting swing mechanics processes I have been researching.
Cheers JH
@@1atomicgolf Great to hear, see you soon. Be safe.
