Well explained. Just a quick observation...you generally switch the line (hot) side on the relay and connect neutral directly to the load. In your connection you can get an electric shock even when the relay is not switched on.
i don't see how the relay is controlled since the callback function is only called from setup and not in the loop .. would be great if you could help me understand that

@@techiesms normally we monitor and control appliances by using sensor and relays for each appliance. But sometime we plug multiple appliances (laptop, charger etc) on a single multi-point extension, so how can we monitor those appliances?
@@techiesms You are right that we can just control the extension board and appliance connected to that extension board will turn on or off and we can monitor the accumulative consumption of those appliances. Actually I am working on a project and for this, I have to monitor those appliances separately that are connected on extension board. Is there any way to just monitor the consumptions of those appliances? We can easily monitor those appliances that are directly connected into a socket, but I am just stuck at this point where an extension board is connected into a socket and multiple appliances are connected on that extension board. Can you please help me to figure this out?

Just a heads up with this project be careful with AC! Don't play around with it unless you truly know what you're doing, a shock across a vital organ can and will kill you. You can do this project with low voltage DC leds instead it will be far safer and cheaper!
