    This is a great camera if you don't expect 2k technologies in a sub 1k small body: it's small, it's sturdy, it's 5 axis IBStabilized, capable street camera with an outstanding sensor, which in the end is what delivers the image: for so little money you get G9 quality pictures in a pocketable body

    Hi, I have been using the GX9 with the Leica 15mm 1.7 lens since early in 2019. For my purpose, mostly NYC street photography, it is really a superb, well designed and buily street camera. In fact I shot many photos today with an umbrella over myself and the camera in lots of nasty rain. Lots of fun, but of course i was whiping the lens often from the water. I need to place tape on the lens 15mm Leica lens to keep the lens f stop ring from moving, but that is something I have grown to watch and get used to. Since a I am a deicated micro 4/3rds Lumix photographer, I have many if the lenses. I think the GX9 is a top notch street camera. Thank you for your review, it was great to view. Bravo

      I have a Fuji XE3 and tried the GX9 at the shop and was thoroughly impressed. I probably would have bought the Panasonic in retrospect since I don't shoot in low light all that often, but it irritates me they use a field-sequential EVF... I understand dropping the weather-sealing to save cost, but don't skimp on the damn viewfinder!

    i have it. if you prefer zoom lenses (like me), i would skip the kit lens and give some more money for 12-35 f/2.8. the 5.6 in the video is way too slow. the camera needs these 2 stops of additional light. or at least the 1 from 12-60, leica version. it can fit in a jacket pocket with the 12-35, would not fit in any pocket with the 12-60. the IQ is very good, with normal limitation of the m4/3 sensor. the only real downsides I see are 1) the small, fiddly buttons and back control wheel and 2) no fully articulating screen. if you have bigger hands, you can find the controls annoying. and the flippy screens are way better, because give the option to compose vertically and from the side. but there is no such thing as perfect camera. i generally recommend this one. it's a modern gadget, full of tricks, the pictures and video are very good and the price is reasonable.

    Nice and interesting test. I have the Gx9 with the leica zoom 12-60. The lens is great but the camera is a mixed bag from old and New componants. Good screen, a very plain viewfinder but finally a good image quality. I'll mayby Come back to the G80 for his reflex form and his weather protection, even with his 16mp sensor.

  • @maheshg212
    @maheshg212 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good review, you have taken a lot of effort. The camera unfortunately is a disappointment for me. The grip, the EVF and tilting screen are all half-hearted efforts. The grip is not sufficient, the EVF is small and the screen does not tilt fully. What's the point of having an EVF and a half-tilting screen? I would love to have a grip like G80. That camera feels solid in the hand. I wish Panasonic release that with a G9 sensor. The G9 body is too big for me if I am looking for a micro 4/3 camera..

  • @marklaurendet1861
    @marklaurendet1861 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    If the camera was cheap it may have been worth looking at for me. But in Australia I can get a G85 cheaper and it over 1/3 more expensive than the GX85.
    If only they had used the G85 EVF, for the price point the EVF being used is no good, to me anyway.
    Also leaving off the remote release socket is a bummer. I hate using my phone as Apple always pops up a message while trying to use the phone.
    I would buy the GX85 instead.

    Fujifilm Xt-30 it's a better choice tooday?

    • @TheCameraProject
      @TheCameraProject  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      well, they are 2 totally different systems. Meaning you are buying into different lenses, and sensor sizes, etc. etc. I'd say that yes, the xt-30 probably IS a more advanced camera as it is also newer. That said, pick the system that is right for you before you worry about the camera. What sensor size do you want? how much are the lenses? What type of stuff do you shoot? Which company's menus and buttons do you like better. It very well may be the xt-30, but the decision shouldn't just be which is a better or more advanced camera, all of these things of the system are what you need to think abuot.

    • @davidebartolomei4253
      @davidebartolomei4253 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheCameraProject Ok thanks but you have used the two cameras with which you feel better? pansonic's software technology compensates fujifilm's hardware superiority for rendering jpg AF or AI auto setting in street photography which is better in practical use?

    • @TheCameraProject
      @TheCameraProject  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidebartolomei4253 I haven't used the XT-30, I've used the xt-10 and some other fujis. I would say I like the panasonic menus, button and interface better. For pure image quality I'd go fuji. For AF, from what I've heard about the xt-30 it is very capable, whereas the xt-10 was just ok. If I was just picking one for street, I'd probably go with the xt-30 for the shallower DOF, and the fuji f2.0 lenses, that are nice and compact and good quality. I would however, recommend getting them in your hands because the on body controls are different and some of the mentality between the brands.

    • @TheCameraProject
      @TheCameraProject  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidebartolomei4253 If i was buying a current panasonic for stills, in m4/3 system, it would be the g9. Autofocus for stills is pretty fantastic on that camera. The gx-9 is decent. That said, the g9 is also a few years old and could probably getting a refresh soon if corona virus doesn't postpone.

    This camera has so bad ergonomics that it is practically impossible to handle it along with Panasonic 100-400. You will constantly keep pushing buttons without meaning to push them. I find it so hard to believe that after so many cameras in the line and so much experience, Panasonic succeeded making so many wrong decisions about the location of buttons on this camera.
    I also noticed that when taking burst shots with this camera it sometimes generates pictures with a stripe.
    In addition, the focus switch can be easily moved by mistake, so if you suddenly loose auto-focus capabilities, this is the first place to check (that auto moved to manual).
    The focus speed on this camera (at least with the 100-400) is also quite disappointing. I had a lot of focus misses. That's not what I would expect from $1,000 camera.

    • @TheCameraProject
      @TheCameraProject  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not disagreeing, but I would argue that the G9 is the body to pick for that lens and that it would handle much better and auto-focus way faster as well. As for the stripe in the bursts, i would try a faster SD card, UHS-II possibly.

    • @log791

      Guy Bashan Well, yesterday I handled a GX85 which is generally the same, and I tend to agree. Somehow it was not that nice even to hold the GX85. Well, have you ever handled a classic GF1? That camera has a near to perfect handling IMHO.
