    I was on holiday in Mexico 2 years ago for 2 weeks and 4th July fell in the middle of my holiday. There was a separate party and bbq on the beach for all the Americans which was great for all us Brits as there were more sunloungers, less people in the pool and, more importantly, less people at the bar. However, if I was asked once, I was asked a dozen times if we had a 4th July in England. ("Had", rather than "celebrate"). Each time I replied "no, we go straight from the 3rd to the 5th July". Not once did anyone grasp it. Mind you, I think we really should celebrate that you declared independence and that the US is no longer anything to do with the UK!😉

    Huge celebration when the chap said the USA got independence from England but of course that is completely and utterly wrong. It was called the British Empire, not the English Empire, for a reason. 😛

    Considering America hasn’t got much history & the kids there are made to pledge allegiance to the flag every day you would think they would know their most important piece of history 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️. 🇬🇧❤️

      You would think it was second nature with how it's drummed into them at such a young age and how much pride they show in these things with flag waving, that really, every American that's old enough to think should know these things off by heart considering how the system conditions them on all this, and it's quite shocking that there are people in the US that don't know these things, especially considering that there are a lot of people around the world that do.
      All I can say is that there is something seriously wrong with the American education system.

    Sadly when it comes to their own history while at school age, most American kids either don't pay attention to what is being said, or can't focus on what's being said - (Unless they want to be a History Buff as they got older!) . . . Or, the history they are taught is so small and brief that it barely covers anything at all (including the true facts about slavery in history also) . . . I've had various chats in comment sections on similar videos with Americans, both young and old about July 4th and how it happened - and almost always, they try to shout me down on them . . . They will never believe that without the French, the Spanish, and the Dutch all helping them, they would never have won their independence . . . England, at that time, was fighting wars all over the globe to protect its colonies and major trade routes, mainly against the French and Spanish to start with. So supplies of both ships (navy) and men (army) were limited because of those issues . . .
    George Washington prior to the war of independence, had requested help from the English military to open up more lands in America so that the early pioneers could spread outwards more . . . including pushing upward into New France (Canada) to make even more land available . . . Naturally, this cost the military, time, supplies, and also money that came from England . . . As the English pushed the French out of New France (Canada) new taxes were brought in to help to pay for everything on their behalf - Washington and his mates then decided that with so many being away from the main 13 colonies, that the time was ripe to pay no taxes and to start and take the country as their own . . . But again, this also coincided with the wars that were already being fought . . . So he asked the French for help against the English, who of course would help them do that now . . . So, the new American rebels had French troops on their side, and it's navy. Then the Spanish navy joined, with them both (from what I can now remember) also allowing pirates, corsairs, and any others via letters of marque to attack English ships (naval or merchant alike) anywhere at sea, too . . .
    At the time, America was also a new addition to the Empire, but due to so few population just then, it's trade was still small so far . . . whereas other parts of the Empire were more settled and so far more important to protect - hence the lack of resources available to send to America against the new rebels . . . So yes, without that help, it is doubtful that independence could have been won - not if the English could have sent so many more men and ships to add to their number to prevent it . . . However, most of the Americans I have tried to explain this to, still think that it was only the new American rebels themselves who beat the British to win independence for their country . . . Without the war and staying within the Empire - America, like everywhere else who since asked for it, would likely have also been granted independence as they all were later without any ward . . . --- (If you are wondering about some of the things that I have said here, the source was from a well-known historian named here, Dan Snow, who did a documentary about George Washington which I saw on TV once when it came out - so this is what I am basing it on, and recalling from memory from that documentary as best I can . . .)

      But even without school, with all the flag waving that goes on, their history is constantly being bombarded at Americans all the time that it would be difficult to not know their history with how much effort the system does to push it on them.

    Shouldn’t 1776 be THE date that all Americans know AND why it’s significant? What do American schools teach?

  • @Andrea-mg9py
    @Andrea-mg9py 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I’m from the UK, l was taught the answer to this question in 1973 as a teenager in history class.
    I then independently went on to research the subject and many others re: the USA. I know what you did at Wounded Knee.
    I love History as a subject. I know about the Savannah Purchase. I know why some Americans speak French in the Deep South.
    What on earth to do schools in the USA teach? Anything at all?

    Watching this was painful, it makes the movie "idiocracy" look like a documentary. I'm an Englishman and even I know John Wilkes Booth shot Lincoln in the wig and the US didnt gain full independence until 1783 with the signing of the treaty of Paris. I think the education in the US needs an overhaul.

    This couldn´t ever happen in Finland (for our own history) and i think that even most of Finnish would know those things from US history too.

    The biggest mystery for me is that US 'muricans suddenly swich on this day to the right date format. Day/Month/Year. But only on this day. Also when it comes to weapons they use suddenly metric. You know 9 or 8mm. What is going on? No wonder the whole world laugh at them.

    I'm ignorant. I don't know who Jesse Ventura is, but I'm not from the USA. I do know who John Wilkes Booth is though and that neither of them were around in 1776. Also You should actually be celebrating the 2nd of August as that was the actual date of the signing. Sadly, no one called Jeremiah signed the declaration, although there were several delegates to the continental congress of that name.
