Elias’s death will always hit the most. He truly was the “crusader” that they referred to him as

"They" didn't refer to him as that. It was Barnes who referred to him as that.

"Take a break. You don't have to be a prick every day of your life, you know." "Feeling good is good enough." Love these quotes.

Great movie. The cast and acting is of the scale. Never met anyone yet who doesn’t like this film.

My respects to Sargent Elias, a truly crusader and a good soldier, a very good one

I was about 10 years old always curious why some of the military personnel left and never made it back. Family did a excellent job in hiding it

With the way his death was when he raised his hand, it was such a sacrificial to hope for his platoon survive and alive as long as possible and almost all of the troops in his platoon made it out (except Rah, since Rah had replaced Elias position). While the troops under Elias troops died out

Sort of all the Platoon events rolled into one platoon's experience. Rambo's to the Korea Veterans who are still winners.

There was a series about Vietnam during the 80's on HBO. I can't remember the name of that show but it aired the same time Tour Of Duty was popular on CBS.
Anyway, one episode on the HBO series was called "The Fragging", about a squad planning on fragging their Lt. in his sleeping quarters.
I remember they had to draw straws amongst them to see who would be the one to do it.

Some junior officers were killed due to their incompetence. However it should be noted that some were also due to political and ideological reasons.

Barnes ain’t evil. As Kurtz was doing in Apocalypse Now, they were the warriors, the true warriors. They who could be moral and at the same time able to kill mercilessly and without feeling. The greats of Alexander, Khan, Caesar, Shaka, Hitler and Saladin all possessed. As Kurtz said “You have to have men who are moral... and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling... without passion... without judgment... without judgment! Because it's judgment that defeats us..”

Gay?! In the original script (very much edited by Oliver Stone in the end) it is written he’s always looking for women when he’s on “rest and relax” time. There’s a funny dialogue between he and the others about a girl he met on Hawaii Island, with a lot of details. In the end he reveals it was only a fantasy😂
