    The FM3 is clearly an awesome unit. At about twice the price of the HX Stomp, it looks like it actually delivers on the price difference, and perhaps even more. Based on the many videos I've watched, it's got amazingly good tones, and almost unlimited tweakability. Probably the best unit in its class. After you've used it for a while, and really gotten to know it, I'd like to see a comparison to the Stomp and hear what you think. Thanks

      you're not gonna regret itat all. the helix is easier to use as well as helix edit. had mine 10 days now. when i coneected to my two powercabs the presets alone blew me away. i went right to the friedmans. The amp modeling is better, the cabs for sure but the effects are crazy good. i have a patch up now with the capo, comp, drive, amp, noise gate, 4 cabs [all 4 at 2048 samples], chorus 'stereo', delay,' 'stereo', reverbs are stereo, graphic eq and a filter i only use with headphones and of corse the input and out put blocks. my axe fx 3 CPU is bouncing from 51%-54.7% I could easily run a bass player through it too. Congrats on buying the fractal.

    Fractal is in the middle of revamping both it's pre and power amp algorithms across the board.
    The new firmware suite is called "Cygnus", and is due out in about a month. It will be ported to the FM3.
    The descriptions from early beta testers is very promising, and the owner of Fractal Audio has proclaimed he has "unlocked the secret of 'chug".
    Very exciting. Making the best modeling systems even better. FAS never stops improving.

  • @MOAB-UT
    @MOAB-UT 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good video. Fractal wins for pure tone and ability to adjust parameters. I'm hoping future offerings will incorporate better workflows, maybe rotary dials, bigger and better touch displays and definitely 50%+ more power. I was a surprised how quickly and easily you were running out of CPU. Essentially I think we are all hoping for a unit that bridges the gap between the FM3 and the venerable AxeFXIII. This time it really needs to come with at least 6 on-board foot-switches. 3 is simply not enough despite how much you can do with each one. I don't like tap dancing all the time. If that happens, they will pull even further away from the competition. Currently I still put them at #1 because at least for me, tone is the most important consideration. Their competitors however are right on their heels.

Please make another video on the FM3 after using it for, at least, three months.

    Thanks Jason for another great video. I had never seen the FM3 in action and this was a great introduction. Since presets and scenes are already available, do you know what added value do channels bring? TIA

    • @ReturnToCoda
      @ReturnToCoda 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think of the blocks as fixed for the entire preset, then within your scenes you make changes to the block through channels. For example from scene to scene your AMP block will stay fixed in its location for the entire preset, but if you want to run a clean amp and dirty amp you will make scene 1) then pick a clean amp adjust all setting and save to channel A. Then you create scene 2) pick a high gain amp and adjust all your setting and set it to channel B. Now when you switch between the scenes you go from clean to dirty . You can do this per block so the combinations are endless and allows you to have all your sounds for a song in 1 preset.

    • @vc74
      @vc74 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ReturnToCoda So switching scenes, the same block can be a different amp, right? One of the reason why snapshots were introduced in Helix was to avoid latency when switching between presets. Is there any latency when switching between scenes that use different amps?

    • @lukather1
      @lukather1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vc74 - no

    • @vc74
      @vc74 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lukather1 OK, thanks. It's still not 100% clear to me what difference it makes with snapshot + A/B paths. I guess it allows having a single block for all the amps which makes the interface more intuitive.

    • @ReturnToCoda
      @ReturnToCoda 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vc74 yes it can. Between scenes the block can be different amps per channel. Same with cab and effects, you can change per channel within that block. That is right think of it as snapshots. When switching scenes there is no latency.

    I had the AXE III and the Helix in direct comparison daily for over a year. To be exact 2 Axe III and 3 Helix (Rack, Stomp, Floor).
    But in the end I sold the Axe III.
    Why? The input stage of the Axe III is has a higher noisefloor and some problems with dynamics. I do own a couple of high end tube amps too and the Helix is the only modelling device so far that behaves exact like my real amps with volume and tone pot of the guitar.
    And another thing: If you listen really closely on the decay of notes on the Axe you hear quite some artefacts and digital hiss that is neither prominent in the real amp nor Helix.
    Further problems were that the first 2 Axe III I got from G66 were faulty.
    One had a broken inputstage and one a broken display. This was already pretty annoying.
    Next thing is the really loud fan that I replaced with the best Noctua fan on the market and still the Axe III was really annoying in the studio situation.
    The other that sat in the rehearsal room didn't bother me because the big PA we have there has louder fans but in a studio I want silence and the Axe III is as loud as my old PC form the 2000s.
    Another thing: Axe Fx is locked to 48khz. that's fatal if you want to work on different projects. No problems with the Helix there, you can switch them easily.
    For over twice the price WITHOUT a floorboard the Axe Fx III price performance is just bad.
    And I am a Axe Fx hardliner but I expected way more from them with the III.
    Had the Axe I, Axe I Ultra, Axe II, Axe IIXL+ so I was there from the beginning...
    Hope the AXE IV gets better, I'll for sure try it but for now the crown is owned by Helix.
    In general I'm happy that more and more companies are coming to the table for high end modelling. This is the best thing that can happen to us guitar players because they push each other to provide a better and better product. Fractal started the high end game and I loved all of my Axe Fx, so I hope the come back to claim the crown but on the other hand, customer support and development for new great ideas is right now on the L6 side. They even aren't afraid to provide a PLUGIN that the fractal community is asking for years but got rejected. So I can drive with only my guitar to a friend who just owns an audio interface, or even full studio. download the plugin, log-in and let's record with my patches. I mean even this is a game changer.
    OR you can expand your CPU power with native and a real Helix. Just connect a USB cable and you're done.
