This is a good video. I have thoughts that you said you like to hear that you might be slightly off base on but but generally i agree, maybe we could chat more eventually. I do have game dev experience and deep history with the industry at large (For you specifically that you might enjoy me and my friends made a mod for VA-11 HALL-A called VA-11 HALL-NYA so check that out if youre bored as we both overlap on that heavily)( I do editing and proofing generally on small projects if youre interested in my history btw) I like to think most people agree with a lot of your points that are outright problems with the industry but people like us who even know these things are issues to begin with arent the controlling share. The casual fans, way more casual than you think, hold the sway that companies want. Gaming has exploded in popularity in the last decade and now it's no longer niche. Its all about the newest thing that appeals to folks in the now. Pokemon and your future video about IP talks included, us we dont matter. Our opinions mean nothing to The Pokemon Company. They make their money on toys, cards, and games are their lowest generating division (which is saying a lot). If you want better pokemon of course you can find it easily but nothing holds the power like the world's most deeply profitable brand. Nexomon, Cassette Beasts, Digimon, and even Palworld (which is more like Rimworld than Pokemon but that's the identity it has attached to itself) are all more interesting but mom is gonna go to the store and see Pikachu and just buy it without a second thought. More so, Pokemon isnt for us anymore, as sad as it is to say its just true. Pokemon is for kids, and kids dont care if their game runs at 15fps. They just arent. Ive watched many children play dogwater and below quality games and just enjoy the fun of it because its just a cool thing. Games are in fact cool things for kids because they do more than zero. Now multiply that by 10 if its based on a thing they like. However, yes that enough about Pokemon. To answer your question about Microsoft and Sony, yes. Microsoft makes its money from everywhere else but its Xbox division. Its only recently with the ActivisionBlizzKing buyout that the parent company went from not caring what they did to now demanding they start making money because that buyout cost the company so much money. Youd think it wouldnt mean anything to the DEFACTO richest company in the world but it does. Thus necessitated the layoffs in their minds, ya know rather than firing their CEOs or them taking paycuts or restructuring or selling them off.....all reasonable things to us but oh well. Sony they make a lot from their PlayStation brand that they dont from their Music, TV, and other various equipment divisions. Sure your Sony MXs are amazing, mine are too, but they dont make more than the PS brand so yeah they do have to be more careful with their property or else the company will start taking devastating losses. TLDR, Ive basically given up hoping companies will change their ways until someone forcibly stops them. Until otherwise, yeah we love our indies. They will continue to save us. Let me know if I can answer more questions for you.
This was such a fun video to behold man. I do have some questions for you that I'll ask later. Your style of speaking has me hooked, especially when you got into the difficulty side of things. Had me thinking "do these people who desire soulsborne difficulty do so because they perceive they can't overcome anything in real life?" Then I got sad lol. It's a bit depressing the more I think about it. 33:00 Option 1 is the obvious answer. To hell with the graphics if the gameplay is dog. I have similar thoughts as you. It's always been AAA games that have been suffering, and it's only because people aren't voting with their wallets. Too many brain dead gamers. It's why these companies can get away with these DLCs, gachas and loot boxes. I still cannot fathom the asinine desire for spending well over HUNDREDS for AESTHETICS..... IN A VIDEO GAME. Such a pity. I got more to add later (working currently).
Well said sir! How we as gamers choose to go about engaging with games, franchises, companies, etc. is what will determine the future of gaming. The truly passionate creators are found in great number in the indie scene, and i have found myself leaning toward indie games over the past 6 years or so. Not to say there are not passionate creators in the mainstream... the difference is that the corporate and political influence is ever looming there, at the expense of letting the creators really cook. Either way, great games are being released all the time... Videogames have become very mainstream though, so there are more casual gamers, and "only gaming cuz its cool now" gamers than there has ever been, spending lots of money in the virtual world bringing a diff type of culture to gaming. Companies love this cuz they can sell sell sell. Once upon a time, videogames were niche, and creators worked with limited tech, essentially forcing creativity and originality. I think this was the heart of the late 80s to early 2000s. The current Indie scene is like a spiritual successor, so to speak of those times. Side note... Love or hate Nintendo, but they were always right about the hardware spec race not being healthy for gaming in the long run.
Gaming isn’t dead. Triple A gaming companies on the other hand, they are digging their own grave. I hope newer companies can take the wheel in leading the industry. We need a breath of fresh air from corporate BS.
The greatest innovation the gaming industry could ever produce would be to give everyone the ability to create their own games so that everyone can just make what they want, the way they want it, and choose who to share it with.
I'm going into game design so if I learn anything i will report back. i love that you are so passonate about this and that you still have hope. i think thats the rite take
It was honestly so much fun. I've played the Monster Tamer/Metroidvana called Monster Sanctuary. I've also beaten Cassette Beasts and while I didn't beat it I have played Monster Crown!
Great video man. I really wish people would speak with their wallets more. These companies are nothing without us. If we don’t take their nonsense I truly believe we can cause some major change
We can a lot of us do. Just find the malicious practices, corporate greed and other issues to be more prevelant in AAA games. Indies are by no means some perfect thing. I mean I beat Horizon, Spiderman, Zelda, Mario Wonder last year. I'm just super duper ultra picky because they also cost 79.99 CAD plus tax.
@@YoungPaperwork There are some games coming like Astro bot that have lot of work into them that I guess you could maybe consider triple a. Probably one of the last games that are not money hungry.

Appreciate you and sorry for taking months to reponsd. Pinning this. 📍
PLEASE do more of these. The only thing I wish you dived into a bit more is game preservation! We're losing games!!!
Ahhh that's a great point. I'll bring it up in my next video
I need to play more indies for real bro. Omg im sleeping on these

First of all, sorry I took so long to answer but yes! Well said and I think if people didn't pay for nonsense, we'd be in a better place gaming wise

AIBA IN THE THUMBNAIL LET'S GOOOOOO
YEEEERRRRRRRR!!!!
We have one of the best years ever in gaming if you are not consuming exclusively AAA slop
Say it again for the people in the back!!
Definitely agree that gaming isn’t dead, ever since I got more into jrpgs and visual novels I’ve been having a blast
Love to see it!

I think some would argue it's leaning in that direction but I hear you

Man this was great!
You would like Monster Sanctuary. Amazing indie game

Good video

Run up those numbers cause this video is gas
Why can’t we just play both indie and triple a games?

Ok but I see what your saying though
Love how you replied with what I said lol
@@YoungPaperwork Fair, also some mid games I actually end up liking
