Dude, I have this receiver. I went to buy one in a stereo shop in the 80's. It was the classic bait and switch sales technique. I came in for this one on sale and he guided me to one that was a 200 watt per channel receiver, but I loved the simplicity of this one. He was so pissed when I bought this for $99. I still have it to this day with some Klipsch speakers and this rocks. This was not a pretty test. You need a full FM receiver and it hangs on the wall.

It's nice to see that you still see people finding these receivers and pulling them out of landfills

I still have one of these. Back in the days it was good, dolby prologic surround sound was pretty nice.
Nowadays it's outdated of course with DTS and what not. Prologic wasn't true surround but like i said, in the late 90s when i was a teenager, this was pretty amazing.

Technics components are typically pretty good. They're not top of the line (for the most part), but they get the job done.
If you got this for nothing, then you did really well.

I got an sa-ex400 for free. Biggest issue is major lack of base, regardless of speakers used.

check out some of the "typically pretty good" Technics components on ebay. There was a Technics SE-A3MK2 power amp that went for 7 grand.A set of SB-M1 speakers sold for 15 grand.I myself own many high end Technics components. They can compete with the best.

Don't buy electronics from thrift stores because they likely won't power up and turn on and they likely will turn on but won't be fully functional and often times they will have flickering leds or flickering LCD displays on them and likely they will power up and blow up and burn your house down due to bad capacitors or components on the main board you see why do people donate old electronics to thrift stores is mainly so people can use them for parts for other electronics because people take the components out of old electronics that they buy from thrift stores and build things out of them trust me I remember getting a receiver from a thrift store and the fan wasn't blowing at all but the receiver didn't get hot either but the volume knob I had to keep turning it clockwise to turn the volume up and it would turn the volume up and down when I turned the volume knob clockwise

Every reciever I've bought from a thrift shop has always worked fine. Only once did one not work and it was just a cheap samsung htitb amp.

It's a goes up at salvation army used to let us plug the units in but not any more. Some units are very good others broken but my hobby is fixing things. Sometimes I get stuff really cheap if it's not working.
