Nolan said that they did some more takes of that scene but he knew (and he chose) the first try was gonna be it. One of the most emotional scenes in that movie but the whole movie is such an emotional scene. Cillian Murphy said in an interview that after he watched it for the first time he was very emotional, just by watching it, pretty much like any other human being.
