Somewhat uncommon nowadays, this is a gem of a reflex, for serious amateurs of film photography. The lightmeter and battery compartment can't go wrong, as there are none. It has a more convenient film reminder than the previous Pentax SLR's, a full range of speeds plus a ~1/45 speed (synchro flash X). The SV is notable for its relatively quiet operation, smooth reloading, pleasant ergonomics, elegant design and compactness relative to its competition. However, the viewfinder is relatively coarse compared to the spotmatics that followed it. When the Spotmatic appeared in 1964, the SV continued its commercial career as a "budget" option. A bonus note : there are two versions of this SLR, recognisable by the colour of the R on the rewind knob : Fisrt version with green R (1962-1963). Then orange R (1964-1968) which had a slightly modified mirror chamber to accommodate for the protruding rear of the Super-Takumar 1.4/50 mm (8 lens elements versions). So here with a quite low serial number as a version 2, you can be assured that your gear is from 1964. Nice presentation by the way.
That's true, but his presentation is excellent from 2017... I have an early one with the green "R" SV # 807150. Unfortunately I have to stick with my 55mm f/1.8...lol Fortunately all Pentax SV cameras work exceptionally well.
Will be much later than 1962 with that serial number and red R on rewind crank. Yours will be nearer 1967.
What a beauty and with some battle scars as it should.👍
I prefer my version as mint like all my Pentax M42 collection .
I'm too old for this type of music! Good presentations of the camera, though...
very helpful, thank you! Now I know what to look for
You're welcome
Ringo Starr had this camera (1964 A hard days night).
My father taught me photography on the SV in the 70s. He gave it to me when he upgraded to an AE-1. Fond memories...
Thanks for sharing
This helped so much thank you, (just bought this bad boy from a vintage shop)
You're welcome
