I’ve only sorted the wiring on a couple of bikes using the original loom, and have now decided just start from scratch with new wiring. Wiring isn’t that complicated, what is, is decoding the loom and wiring diagram.
You nailed it on the brake light wiring. I was having an issue with a brake light not working and watching your video I now have a working brake light. Very simple language.
Dude, best simplified wiring video I've found yet and I've been searching for weeks! Question: I have a 03XL1200, regarding the charging system, did you add the 30 AMP breaker, or does the bike already have that?
Hey. Thanks, Cody, for the info on wiring a chopper. Wiring is not my favorite aspect of building a chop. I remember Hal Robinson did some simple wiring diagrams in old issues of Easyriders magazine. Your diagrams are very helpful. Cody, keep up the great work! Yeah, if you see him, tell Brandon at The House of Choppers that I said, "Hi." -- Walt in Cleveland, OH.
@@codyschoppercorner5727 - You're in the best of company. Brandon has it going on. So do you. You guys out there in Idaho have got a great chopper scene going. There's nothing like it in my immediate area. Guys riding dressers with overly loud sound systems are all over the place here. Lowbrow and TC Bros are big medicine around here. Fuel Cleveland is the only real chopper event here. Thanks for the videos, Cody. God keep you, your family and your pals at the shop.
This is a VERY, VERY good tutorial. One question - with a kick start, is the battery really required ?? What is the advantage of having the battery for kick start ??
Yes, the battery is still required. The advantage of having a kickstart is when your voltage drops low enough for your starter to not work properly. You are not dead in the water. Also getting rid of all the wiring and other unnecessary components cut down on possibility of that stuff going wrong on the road.
Great video… I’ve torn down my 1977 (electric start) Ironhead and I’m gonna use your wiring diagram to simplify it all so…. Main question is where is the starter motor in your diagram? I’m guessing this video is for a kicker? 😊
How about if your running a magneto what’s different? you should do that video on installing a mag and explain the wires on that set up. I haven’t seen a good video explaining that system yet, been looking.
Life is crazy at the moment. But i definitely need to do that. The mag is exactly the same wiring except you delete the ignition section from this example
This video is pure gold!!🏆 Thank you for such a simplistic explanation of the wiring system. My bike's brake light doesn't work even though the running light does. In the mechanic's attempt to fix it he suggested a new circuit board for the light but the new one didn't work either. I think you might have helped us figure out the problem. Also, I learned the correct terminology for a couple of parts I tried explaining in a recent video I posted.😊 TY TY TY!! You're a crown jewel! 👑

I just bought a kz1000 custom hardtail frame with a lot of the main parts like engen and Wheels and Stuff, but no wiring im decent good with wiring race cars sbc but this is a 4 cylinder vike so thanks for the video
I have been busy since May.... and I still haven't fixed the godd... mn bike. A simple LS650 bobber.. Tried so far 6 diagrams... No luck so far. Any idea how I feel?
Every time i go to try and sort out wiring. I have a issue, original wireing and bullet connectors are a larger guage than wires etc that come with new hand controls . Shud id change small connectors to fit original loom .will i blow fuses or melt wires . ????? . Cheers , thanks.
It depends on what ignition you are using. If it’s an aftermarket ignition it gives you the option to turn voes on or off. If running stock ignition you need to run voes.
Well, I don’t know what bike you have but basically it would be another system itself. I’d suggest looking in your bikes manual for the electric start diagram. It’s usually pretty simple. Only 3 wires usually.
I would like your opinion on building a 88 evo softail into a chopper. I'm really thinking about converting to kickstart but have been told that it is not a good idea.
There’s a bunch of aftermarket kickstart systems for the twin cam that are very simple and retain your electric start… so I have no clue why they would say that .
The only thing is I wish you would have done is said what you recommended what gauge wire for each one would be recommended, so I don't heat some wire and burn it down 😊🔥
So two weeks ago I shorted something while screwing wires into my ignition with the battery connected because I’m a motor. The wire lit the insulation and my garage instantly filled with white smoke. When it was all said and done, no real damage. Now I’m here
Huge help for newcomers to the chopper world. Thanks brother.
This video is gold. Simplifying the wiring on a Shovel I just got and this is exactly what I was looking for.
This video was uploaded the day I started my advanced electrical class at mmi, thank you sir this will help alot

What size wire do you use G? Also what if you have an electric start
I use 14-16g and you would just follow the original starter wiring from the stock diagram
