Thank you. Great way to look at it. There is some pink paint from years ago on my Cherry table I made with my dad 15 years ago that my daughter painted while going way outside her workspace when she was probably 5-6. I smile every time I notice it.
@@BionicLemming That same thought occurred to me. Those look to gorgeous to fuss over minor use related wear, and if anything the price point for it out weighs any little dents incurred.
that's not damage it's "patina", which makes it look wonderful. I saw a video where a woman used marine varnish on her counter top, man that stuff was rock hard.
Amazing job! Absolutely gorgeous, and I also believe the things that happen over time add character. The polyurethane has held up more than well. As someone who also built my own countertops, out of stainless steel, I heard a million and one reasons why it would never work out, mostly because it would get all scratched up. I used unfinished stainless steel, sanded it myself, and now people marvel over how great they look. They often ask: wow, how did you develop such a beautiful patina? My answer, I use them. The scratches are what makes them continually more lovely. Hats off to you. Again, incredible job!
Thank is awesome. I went back and forth between concrete, wood or stainless. Wood won I guess. I have a stainless table I made at my shop I use in my machine shop area. I love it.
It is gorgeous! I have yellow pine furniture made by a carpenter back in the 1940’s, and it is so beautiful and different. It’s been beaten up with moves from family to family and yet it still looks good!
I've had the chance to use this table a couple of times now. It's fun to whip out in front of people:) I can see what people are talking about when they say the legs are delicate, but they're design to support a "mostly" vertical load, not be torqued from the side or pushed back into place. If you just let the table open or close on it's own and don't force anything, it works great th-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh Once it's set up, it's pretty solid. My only gripe would probably be related to the clamps provided. They're not the highest quality. They do the job, so no big deal, but they could be better. All in all, pretty cool gadget.
@@SpiralDesignWorks you knocked that kitchen out of the ballpark Sir!!! Absolutely fantastic! You probably tripled the value of your home with that kitchen alone!👏👏👏
I'm preparing to update my kitchen, fix some cracks in the plaster, and repaint, and refinish the cabinets and cabinet doors, new cabinet hardware, backsplash, pot lights, and crown moulding on top of the wall cabinets. I was going to put in a quartz countertop, but I'm pretty handy and I have decided to make my own wooden countertops. You did a great job.
Dude, all those little marks, scratches, and imperfections give that countertop character that it didn't have two and a half years ago. They tell the story that you and your family have enjoyed these beautiful countertops and probably will continue to do so for years to come !
My new job took apart an old oak desk and placed the top next to the dumpster for someone to take for free and I got the counter top to a desk, yay, and this video all of a sudden popped up. I have no clue wtf I am doing but I am eager to learn.
My husband did this for my kitchen. It has been up for 3 years and it still looks great and I love it! Beauty of it is I can if needed to just sand and restain. So far not needed. Yours is very nice.
I like how the grain goes the same way around corners. I am doing a wood countertop and was going to do a butt joint, but I really like your idea. It’s like a butt joint but with the material turned the other way.
Thanks for posting. I have been wanting to do wood countertops but the cost of hardwood was more than I wanted to spend. Now I will give it a try with pine and live happily everafter.
Hey great job man. I'm about to redo my kitchen and I'm going to use pine as well. I was having douts until I saw your video. I'm now subscribed to your Channel and I'm looking forward to watching the rest of your videos. so once again great job and thanks for the video.
In all honesty, your countertop looks great, even with the markings it still looks like it was the original character. This review was just I needed as I am moving into a new place with a lot of countertop I want to replace some point in the future, with the green cabinets and the beautiful countertop is something I've been thinking of.
Not trendy. Now if you had imported, African snotty pine at an exorbitant cost. Seriously, I had a customer request a Walnut counter. Called up my supplier was quoted $7.50 a board foot. She had me do the job and was very happy. A year later she wanted a matching table top. Called up my supplier the price had doubled in one year. Trendy had struck. Beautiful work!
This is my dream counter top bench and have shared this video because of how beautiful it turned out and now we are going to do our dog houses in this style too 🥰
We put oak counter tops on our home over 20 years ago. They topped cherry cabinets. It's was just beautiful.a couple of interior decorators that we knew, thought we were crazy, when my husband offered to make them for their clients. Today, I see wooden counter tops made of all kinds of wood. I loved mine. You go guy, but when you're ready to replace them consider a hardwood they hold up much better.
under sink mount always looks better and easier to keep clean. Does allow for damage of the wood around the edge from pots and pans. But seems to be taking it well.
House looks amazing! I made half of the peninsula counter out of pine, not even solid the board that has several little pieces glue together i use a dar stain cause i had alot of knots to fill, so far so good.
After 3 years it still looks sharp! My sister had a hardwood butcher block countertop installed. She damaged it in the first year. If it were granite, she would have chipped or cracked it.
Soft wood is gonna mar a little - no matter the finish. Stil looks awesome though. I might consider this for a summer cabin or cottage. For my main residence I would go with something more durable.
It is just me most of the time so I am very happy with it. A big busy family kitchen for sure might need something a bit more durable. Thanks for watching.
I agree. My house was originally built in the 1890's as the Daytona Beach train station. It has the original Heart Pine floors. I love them even with all the flaws.
Its perfect! Its the way you know you wanted it to be.. You did burn it too.. Just like the pallet wood ceiling. 👍 Folks pay big $ for this style. Cheers!
Thank you for sharing. Could you please explain the joining process in more detail? What adhesive did you use and how did you ensure the boards stay together mechanically (I see you drilled holes and used screws)?
Pretty impressed. I build a coffee table out of big box store pine and it shrunk over 1/2”! Haven’t touched pine after that. Glad it held together for ya!
Other than the restroom, the kitchen is the most used room in the house. A few little bumps and scratches on the counter top wouldn't bother me a bit. You could always fill in anything bad with a little epoxy, or a wood patch. Wood is much cheaper and easier to repair than anything else. What's the music you were playing at the beginning of this video?
We're about to put in two yellow pine vanities in our 2 bathrooms. The plumber is going crazy telling us NO! He said we'll have heartache from water ruining the wood. But we're going to treat it. The other thing he said was that the faucets will eventually become loose because the wood will expand and contract with temperature changes. Have you had ANY problem with your faucets staying in place?
No problem with faucet. Even if it did it is easy to tighten. Find some kiln dried lumber from a real lumber yard will help. Also be sure to coat or epoxy any edges completely like the sink and faucet holes.
I used Oak trim along the edge as a trim on my kitchen island that I made with pine / 2 x 4s put together to form the tabletop. So far no dents :D We also used a thick polyurethane on top. Your counters look awesome, I am going to do the same thing. Thanks, you earned a subscriber
