Building the Backyard "Maim Frame"
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 27 ก.ย. 2024
- Today, we embark on another home improvement project, and not without help from some friends. Phil, Hailey, and Kevin help construct a wooden A frame with a 45 degree turn at the top. We named it "The Maim Frame" for its tendency to throw riders off the side.
As it turns out, the Maim Frame is not so easy to get over. I purposely chose the slowest corner of the trail for this feature to make things more interesting, but it turned out to be a little too slow. Because of the approach, you need to take a really hard crank in a tight space to make it to the top. In the future, I'll definitely be making the approach a bit easier so that the Maim Frame can be hit with more speed.

Aside from the stuff I build on Berm Creek, (which was pretty far removed from an actual mountain bike trail) I haven't had much experience building stuff like this, so the Maim Frame was a learning experience. Stumpthorne (the area at the top of my yard) is going to be a training ground for building features like these.
One of the challenging things about this build was the use of rot resistant hardwood, like locust. I really like it as a riding surface because it's grippy, but it's very time consuming to obtain (where I live) and expensive. In the future I'll be using locust as a riding surface, and a mixture of other lumber for framing.

Hey seth. You should build some decorative bird houses around the trail. It would look really cool and would fit with the name "woodpecker"

As long as you keep sparrows off of it.

I’m dying. Love you Seth.
a small wall in the corner of the “a-frame” would make for a cool wall ride and a safer alternative down
I thought the same, and dove into the comments to see whether anyone else thought so. Might be an unpopular opinion, but this feature doesn't look super-fun as is.
@@olafwagner it'd just get in the way too much
Had this thought myself
just pack in a crap ton of that dirt under the frame and work outwards, mold it into a mini berm!
I also thought the same.
Why is everything you build well steep! It's like you're thinking "right then how steep can this be so it's just rideable?" Nice
Phil is a beast. One of my favorite rider's hands down. Congrats on the trail Seth it's coming along nicely. It's alot of work a group of friends and I built a bunch of trails behind a friends house with a below ground level dirt jump that you rode down into and jumped out of. And then a wall ride. It was a short trail but took us a month to finish.

i just want you to know that im far from the mountain biking sport or trail building - and im thoroughly enjoying this series and looking forward to the next installment. Great job filming and editing all the progress. As a creator myself i understand those efforts!
These videos make me happy.. I don't know why, I'm not a mountain biker or anything, but you just give off an honest and chill vibe!
Thanks for that and keep the good work up!
Hailey's laugh is so infectious. Serotonin booster at 8:50
I am so thankful you are doing this series right now. I just bought a house with some acreage in Burke Vermont right dead center of the Kingdom Trails system. I'll be carving single track all throughout my 13 acres for my kids and I to ride. Lots of hard work and it is nice to see you doing the same with your new property.
I live on 6.5 acres of rocky Texas Hill Country and have had dreams of building trails for years. I'm now hoarding scrap wood and thinking how I'll get started. Keep up the good work.
This is exactly what I needed today
Any time I'm sketched out for a feature I will imagine Phil saying "Yep...ya ya ya ya!"
please keep these trail videos up, keep em coming in a row. i think we all want to see this continue as a series often! i was waiting and waiting.
Thank you Seth for making such awesome videos! You inspire so many people and im one of them. This week I got my first trailbike ever after years of watching your videos! So thanks for the motivation and for making great videos!
Greetings from Sweden!
5:47 as a drone owner, this scares me lol.
Why?
@@jxdnYT because if the obstacle avoidance doesn't see a tiny limb or leave, your drone is getting stuck in a very high tree and its hard to get out. You dont really want to throw a basket ball at a DJI Mavic 2 that costs 1300 dollars to get it out of the tree lol.

Phil is probably my favorite guy to come around, I'm watching through these for the first time in awhile and I'm so glad to see him :)
I'm so glad we get to experience this along side you, I dont even ride but stuff like this had made me seriously consider trying! Please keep these videos coming, we love em!!!
I have been waiting, FOR YEARS. Thank you for posting, I will never take your videos for granted ever again
Phil watching Seth use the saw looks like a dad making sure his son fixes up the neighbors fence he crashed the car into.
2:47 Woodpecker, _(a blue trail)_ has a mandatory large bunny hop.
Note to self: never ride a “Seth” *black*
You noticed that too, huh? Yah, I'm comfortable with blue in my home trails, but that log hop and maim frame are beyond my skills.
You could roll that log, but the Maim Frame may be a black diamond feature. Maybe he'll offer a bailout route, but, hey, progression...
I’m loving the series keep it up
Props to you for putting in all that work
Hay Seth I just got your T-shirts and I love them and they feel amazing!

I've never ridden anything other than a beach cruiser but I'm hooked on this series!
Hayley laughing through the vid has me in tears 😭😂
“Woodpecker can now be ridden”
"connoisseur of sketch" lol
I love your perspective on hand-cut trails!
I need to say it. But i love your videos man. You always motivate me to finally pick up mountainbiking again. Haven't done it in 5 years or so since switching to the motorised version of offroading. And now after having crashed and broken my foot 2 years ago, i want to get a bit more fun off the more physical activity. So thanks mate for bringing me back. (Now i only need to save up for an entry bike)
Hey an idea is to have to trails going into each other like a cross and one is a wooden bridge going over the other trail
I would say have a gap go over one trail
"Maim Frame" - That's a great programmer's joke if I ever heard one, oh wait...
How is that a programmer joke?
@@Katt1n have you never heard for example a hacker in a movie say 'im hacking into the main frame'
Well Seth used to work as a freelance web developer. So the joke is not that far off 😂
That trail is looking pretty slick, you are so lucky Seth to have such a sweet property to build your own trail system. I bet in years as the trail matures it will freaking awesome.
I am now obsessed and fully invested in this project. you do amazing work and take litte shortcuts. so awesome, keep up the good work!
Alex and Bryan : hey Seth we would like to visit you, is there a trail near your place we could review?

I'd never leave the house if I had this trail in my backyard.
Why not? Wouldn't you want to ride it?
I mean, I would at least fail at riding it few times before giving up

Seth, you've got such an amazing series going.. extremely interested in every video you've got with this project. Congrats man. Beautiful home and amazing video series!
Seth: I csn do this in one day
Me: I can do it in an hour
Also me: When i get power tools and carpentry skills
Hey seth! As someone who works with trees every day for all the logs I really suggest purchasing a Peavey. It's the best tool for hand moving logs.
Why the hell is it so steep? Kind of takes the joy out of Cruising down the hill
Your actually the only channel that I actually look forward to and watch every video. You have inspired my 13 year old ass to get up and build sick trails in my backyard! Love the video ❤️ 😄

You have encouraged me to become a professional mountain biker. Thank you so much! You inspire me.
Pretty cool obstacle!👍 looking forward to the many ideas to follow.

DUDE! Leaf blower!! We build trails on our property and once you try a powerful back-pack leaf blower you'll throw the rake away! You'll need that to locate (clear the leaves from) the trails in another month, anyway.
Love your channel and look forward to each new video.
I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that I love these berm beak videos, keep up the good work buddy
Glad to see some trails coming together. Cant wait to see the final project.
Watching you build out your house is my favorite thing to watch on TH-cam.
Your original house/trail inspired me to do similar work on my track in my local hills. After nearly 2 years the 1st stage is almost complete. Its all hand cut like yours. I agree, they are the best type of trail. Part of why i got into MTB was the view/nature. Wish i could show you pics at what youve inspired. Cheers from NZ bro. I know what you mean by feature guess work. The ammount of times ive made something, then ridden it and had to alter. But thats part of the fun imo, trail and error :p Ive been using old pallets that were going to the rubbish for my wood. Similar to your rough stuff. PS : can i come live at your house.... so awesome. And a great bunch of dudes/dudette to hang with
Phil just seems like the coolest person to hang out with !!
Hey Seth i just want to thank you for making me happy cuz my 2 bicycles got stolen today and I'm watching your channel to make me happy keep doing the great work
Cannot express how much I love these videos
Hey, I know you want to avoid machine made trails, but if you get tired of the manual labor I would consider looking at a dingo, it’s small then a skid steer and is wicked easy to hop on and off of, plus it comes with great features that would be handy to clear corridor. We have one for our landscaping business and I’ve always wanted to use it to make a mtb trail
Insane in the maimframe! Looking good Seth. Ever think about turning some of those long logs into skinnies on the side of the trail as a brief alternative line? Just shave/crosshatch the top and bottom. Bevel the entrance and exit
If you have a patch of woods and some tools, hand cutting track is insanely fun to do. Everyone should try it!
Love the video keep up the good work. It always fun when you have people reaction on your trail.
I had fun jist by looking at that build and attempts, Good job guys.
