    Not even saddest. On Maledives I had many argues with parents whose kids were collecting hermits in buckets, then forgot them while having dinner and in the next morning there were 30, sometimes up to 60 dead hermits. Per bucket!!!
    I love children but I don't love parents who go with them in holidays to places like this and Let them destroy and kill nature just for having fun and don't teach them to protect and maybe observe nature just because of their own laziness and ignorance.

    After they use litter as a shell their normally curled abdomen gradually changes shape to fit the new home meaning its difficult to go back to shells after so they keep using litter once they start.

    • @kennethsatria6607
      @kennethsatria6607 6 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Avbitten That would take many generations, its not too late to keep them on the same behavior

    • @Avbitten
      @Avbitten 6 ปีที่แล้ว +127

      I'm not talking about adaption over generations. Their abdomens naturally slightly change to the container they are in. They have found hermit crabs with straight abdomens instead of curled that used bamboo shoots. the hermit crab association has confirmed that their abdomen can change shapes in different containers.

      Its possible for them to go back to shells, but crabs always want a shell a similar shape to their last one because their abdomen already adjusted to the last one.

    If it went with the can, it would’ve been a baked crab the very next day...
    So pls don’t leave cans on the beach people!

    It really is hard to watch these videos...it's an awful reality.
    UPDATE: Okay, I feel much better after watching the ranger placing more seashells for the hermit crabs.

      They place in front of trash piles... Why don't they just move this trash away xD
      They can still leave shells for the crabs...

      I don't think that, it's good hermit crabs use food cans instead of shells, as people like to collect shells and it help the environment

    They need to put up signs telling people not to pick up shells and why. It never even would have occurred to me that i was taking a potential home away from a crab

    • @Mensch777

      actually its humans taking souvenirs from the ocean that "kills" them. The garbage is actually helping "solving" the first problem somewhat

    • @chinxianhin
      @chinxianhin 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Actually their soft belly could get easily cut open if they are not careful when switching to sharp cans so Stop collecting shells or hermit crabs as pets and do not leave garbage at the beach especially plastics.😄
      These are land hermit crabs not sea hermits btw😁

    • @FurNaxxYT
      @FurNaxxYT 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Mike Chin as if shells aren't sharp and jagged as well

    • @chinxianhin
      @chinxianhin 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      FurNaxx it's true but I've seen it happen as well I the cases of a weakened or oversized crabs.
      Their belly is really soft as it a prawn without a shell. Normally sea shells is not sharp if so sometimes crab are known to nibble their shell for extra calcium

    • @FurNaxxYT
      @FurNaxxYT 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      հokцƽ ρokus Only point made was shells can be just as sharp. I reckon those rangers aren't putting out razor sharp cans anyways. If you failed to read those 10 words maybe you have the small brain? Edit: autocorrect
