    The complexity of nature is stunning. The way the father frog knows how to defend its eggs and that it will defend many of them by itself shows the power of a parent's instinct to protect. And I especially love how the hatchlings (the oldest) can recognize danger quickly, even when they're still in eggs, and they are able to escape from the predators to the safety of the stream. It's just incredible.
    This goes to show that even the most simple-looking creatures are extremely complex and interesting organisms. I love nature.

      Wildlife cameraman is probably one of the most patience requiring jobs out there.
      Look at the "Birds of Paradise" Video from a few days ago here on this channel. The cameraman said that they had two trips of 6 weeks each to New Guinea and despite shooting literally all day they only got 7 minutes of usable footage over the course of 12 weeks.

      Then again, this species evolved so that the babies an hatch when they’re still premature. They aren’t ready to hatch, but once they’re developed enough that doesn’t matter if they’re attacked. The premature tadpoles hatch early, and do just fine. It’s a pretty clever survival adaptation.

    It's amazing to see the complexity and aliveness of such a little frog's life. We often think of animals as these simple creatures that just fumble around and blindly follow their instincts like robots. But this frog clearly shows insight in the situation and embodies various actions that ensure the best outcome, with a bit of luck.
    He decides to protect his youngest eggs because the old ones can potentially hatch early and survive. He uses his own body as a distraction. He kicks and punches the wasps away, even reaching behind his back, which is an abnormal movement. You can say "oh but that's just the evolutionary process". But do you look at yourself that way when you overcome a difficult challenge? "No need to congratulate me, that was just this thing called evolution, it got nothing to do with me".

    • @dumupad3-da241
      @dumupad3-da241 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Everything he does can still be a blind instinct, and it most likely is. He doesn't have to *know* that his body is functioning as a distraction. He doesn't have to know *why* he is sitting where he's sitting, to realise what his body looks like to the wasps from above, which eggs are the youngest ones etc. He probably just has an urge to sit above the the highest batch, without knowing why. The kicking is a self-defence reflex. He certainly didn't invent all of these 'cunning strategies', and he didn't even learn them by observing other frogs. When I overcome a challenge, it's not the exact same challenge and I'm not overcoming it in the exact same way as every other member of my species for millions of years.

    These videos are the best. Nature is so amazing. How lucky we are to be able to observe it to hopefully get others more interested in preserving its beauty ♡♡♡♡♡. Thanks BBC and David Attenborough!

    I think "Fatherly love" is not talked about enough, and people forget that it's just as strong, and in some cases, even stronger, than motherly love.

      Fatherly love is basically a angry dad saying "you mother fucker" while beating the wasp ass

    That frog is one incredibly tough kickboxing opponent for the wasps! He's the goalie for his team, and if they are to survive, he has to get rid of the wasps or it's game over!
