@joanhuffman2166 Haha no the saturday thing is basically just for candy specifically and mostly just a rule/norm directed at kids. Though I do think it might have a general effect on how we consume sugar, seeing as we eat more candy than the rest of the world but still have better dental health. Its better to eat a lot of sugar once a week than small amounts every day.
@sweZACK so what did they actually recommend back in the day? Do people usually drink coffee or tea black with nothing added? Is a sweet dessert part of the usual meals? You might get a mocha or caramel latte whatever if you're having fika with a friend at a coffee shop, but again, that's just occasionally, for everyday, most people make their coffee at home, or at work, and drink it plain. So, I was born(1987) and raised in Sweden. Growing up I had 3 wisdom teeth that the state funded dentist knew was gonna be a problem for me later in life and instead of removing them while I was covered by the state they waited until I turned 18 to tell me that I really should have my wisdom teeth removed. I had gone to the same dentist since I was 6yo. The only reason they waited was to save the municipality money. I would say that swedish dentist has learned nothing about ethics.

Often how it goes here. Like our healthcare is far better than most countries but you kind of need to nag about your issue repetitively to get any help at all.
I guess answering in Swedish isn't allowed? I'll try giving my response in English, then. By the time you're 18, wisdom teeth have usually not come out yet. I find it amusing that you are painting a picture of your dentist, snickering in the shadows, biding their time to save money for the municipality! I promise, it's more likely that they waited to know for sure that it was going to be a problem. You should have gotten frisktandvård insurance right when you turned 18, it would have been free.
@@kinglionkayce sugar was brought to England in the 11th century and by the 16th it was becoming industrialized, the upper class definitely consumed a lot of refined sugar in Henry VIIIs time
Refined sugar doesn’t directly cause tooth decay the bacteria in your mouth break down sugar into acids that do exactly what you think they it’s any form of sugar refined, raw, fructose it doesn’t matter so brush and floss and it shouldn’t be a problem
What were the precise recommendations made for dental health. Do "all the sweets you want but only once a week" mean no jam, cake, dessert, sugar in coffee or tea? No one shares the rules outside of Sweden or the Swedish language. Are there limits on starchy foods too?
The tooth fairy only pays for teeth hidden under a pillow. Because they didn't currently have a pillow or any place to store the teeth until given a pillow, they carried them in their mouths.
For anyone ever needing a root canal, know how much pain you’re in, leading to needing that root canal. That’s just 1 tooth causing maddening pain, can you imagine feeling that in every tooth?

There are dentists that advertise doing work on people with anxiety. I myself don’t have a problem, but I had a dentist who was so careful, you could hardly feel anything.
In America, any of us who exist on Medicare/Medicaid only recently had "free dental care" added. I've had a mysterious dental disease since I was little that caused my teeth to slowly decay from the inside-out, which is why I had ALL my teeth extracted over 2yrs, by age 30; If I hadn't, they would have continued to slowly crack & crumble to pieces otherwise. In America, the homeless, prisoners, and disabled/poor are given the same "pull over fix" treatment. I've been so thankful for the masking pandemic, which hit in the middle of my extractions & gave me a reason to cover up my humiliating appearance, which I still do to this day, whenever I go out or am around anyone. I've had a vlog channel for over 10yrs, but I haven't done any on-camera vlogs since then, and my already damaged self-esteem was completely taken out...
Bull. This is simply not true. The poor in the USA have better healthcare than most people that have to pay for their own insurance. Medicaid pays for tooth care unlike most insurance policies. If prisoners don't wish to have their teeth pulled they can stop committing crimes. Rather than "existing" on Medicare and Medicaid letting us tax payers pay your way, how about getting a job ! God I'm sick of you people!
@wolfmantroy6601 Well, tell that to the dentists at the cubicle-style extraction clinic, a-hole! Don't you worry, your vote made damn sure those of us born disabled are doomed to either end ourselves as quick as we can, or see what existing with debilitating suicidally painful symptoms with NO income, NO medical care & NOWHERE TO LIVE, get to see what slow & painful a death can actually be! Thanks so much for lumping us ALL TOGETHER, and I hope you get a dozen debilitating & agonizing symptoms that make just existing every day a nightmare, have your wish to die before it gets that bad IGNORED, and have nobody in the world give AF when you're left with no meds or income! Willfully ignorant f*cktards like YOU are why this country is HELL for everyone else!
@@wolfmantroy6601 as a current Medicaid recipient what you just said is BS. We do not get free dental. Never. We are supposed to be covered for one free cleaning, each year but as soon as you make that appointment and you’re diagnosed with something like periodontal disease or even gingivitis-if you don’t pay out of pocket for things like scaling, then your cleaning each year is null and void and good luck finding a place to even do that on a sliding scale within two counties of where you live. Welfare recipients do not get free dental. SSISSDI recipients do not get free dental. Regular working moms who aren’t receiving child support do not not get Dental. Tell me you don’t know what you’re talking about without telling me. Just like you may think that we get eyeglasses, too? You do realize that these are services that are considered cosmetic and the only thing Medicaid will pay for is for every single tooth in your mouth to be ripped out, should you need it and, if they can deny your claim because it is not life-threatening, they will. I just got vision covered and when I went to make the first appointment, I was told that because I need a retinal scan, nothing is covered. you don’t know anything about the US healthcare system so stop feeding people full of the BS that you believe. Also, you sound like an entitled Englishman, who is people came from entitled areas. Nobody’s getting anything for free and you actually have to qualify for all these programs by being 150% below the poverty level. Do you even begin to understand what that means? in order to get SSI you have less than $2000 in assets in the bank. That includes the car you drive. Obama isn’t out here handing out free bus passes. You’re just someone who knows how to not claim every dollar they make in order to be taxed on it, while the rest of us actually have to pay them. You sound like you’ve never had a bad day, in your life.
Medicare does not pay for dental care. Some gap plans and supplemental plans might cover dental, but the standard, original Medicare does not. Medicaid, which varies from state to state, may or may not cover dental. In the state of AZ, dental is only covered for those 21 or younger.
I was marginally housed when I was a teenager and my teeth paid the price. I have had mostly horrible experiences with dentist since then because they shamed me, made me feel undesirable as a client and over all were pricks. Now I have to be knocked out to go because their cruelty has now made me a fruit cake that has fear of dentist. I feel ridiculous that those peoples behavior has affected me this way, but it has. Dentist really need a training in bedside manner and I wish they all had to do a rotation in a homeless clinic to understand what some people go through.
Man, that sucks. I have family members who've been through almost identical experiences. I don't understand why anybody would get into that line of work if they don't actually want to help people (actually, I'm pretty sure I know why $)
@mason96575 I think there might be some miscommunication. The only words in the OP that I think you might be referring to are both pretty innocent, in my experience. "Pricks" just means rude, insensitive jerks, and "fruit loop" is an informal (perhaps self-deprecating or insensitive, but not hateful) way to talk about mental health problems. I see no casual homophobia.
Its not ridiculus. We only have two set of teeth and the mouth is so vulnerable and easyily receptive to pain. My Moms former dentist didnt even wait till the numbin agent was active when starting to pull out the teeth ... when she said that he just said that its impossible whiloe she had to rebutt that he himself said that it takes 5 min to take full effect and he didnt even wait one. I hope you'll find a good one that will take you seriously and accommodate you properly :)
Man I love the Dentist. I feel pampered because someone is taking care of me for a change. I actually have to warn them that I may be so comfortable that I will fall asleep in a cleaning.
Last time I saw a dentist was in July 1987 when in a racing accident @ 155mph I was crashed head on into a concrete retaining wall. I ate the steering wheel and knocked out over 75% of my teeth. The rest were removed so I could eat.
When I was young, only one dentist in our area took the state insurance my mom had for me and my brother. It was apparently never a good experience, and we stopped going as soon as she found someone else to take us to. Even though I don't remember him at all, the experience still left me with a deep fear of dentists and dental procedures.
Very interesting, and no, didn't know that patients were used in that study. We had regular mouth washing with a florin solution when I was in school, we didn't like it, tasted not good. But we do indeed have better dental health now due to it. Unfortunately, if I understand it correctly, the mouth washing has been discontinued.
Sweden still don't care that much about us disabled people. The folk health authority managed to convince almost the entire population that "masks don't work so why bother." This country hasn't learned anything. Swedes in general are so passive and scared of conflicts, they just obey whatever Folk Health say.Or atleast the folk health one. Less responsibility to handle. And I say this as an Autistic person who is scared of conflicts, but also frustrated about the lack of care and action in regards to disability rights!
These are what university faculties should present to Bioscience students as case studies in order to teach experimental ethics, instead of one compulsory dry lecture outlining lists of rules that “won’t be on the exam”. (As it was for me) It would actually impress the importance of ethics on the researchers of the future, by showing just how bad it got - instead of a tick box lecture churning out another student cohort with a subtle disdain for ethics as “red tape”.

You mention experiment on the peoples of the US by the government. While I am aware of some of these experiments, mostly by the military on military personal, I would love to hear more. Are these available or are they in the works?
What's really wild is looking at historical death records. Before the mass importation of sugar and sugar cane, very few died from "teeth", after that the numbers skyrocketed. It's just that the connection is so gradual and life spans were not as long, people just didn't see it.
This sounds like actual hell, I have untreated teeth with severe cavities(thanks to the impossibility of getting a damn dentist appointment set up for myself) and I can tell you from personal experience that the thought of kys is real because of the agony that is tooth decay
@@sheonlywearsblack Impressive. I had to ask because I'm type 1 diabetic and although my teeth weren't perfect due to that anyways I literally missed one appointment and fucked my teeth. I probably typed all that horribly but whatever.
Yeah, my husband is a martial arts instructor. He'll shrug off a broken nose, not even see a doctor for cracked ribs, didn't even take the painkillers he was given after he had his gall bladder surgically removed but he pretty much begs for the sweet release of death if he gets a dental abscess. I'm a wuss so I'm pretty thorough with my dental hygiene routine.
4:44 I'm seeing a ton of people with Down Syndrome there, which makes it even more sad. When their love of life and joy is fostered, they can still achieve great things. It's such a shame that they were treated so horribly.
The info obtained from these unethical studies hopefully has been examined for how true the findings are, especially since treatments are derived from them.
I’m terrified of the dentist!!! I’m 32.. at 7 I had 3 teeth growing under my tongue… I wasn’t numb all the way… I STILL freak out if I have to go to the dentist!
What if you just inherited the bad teeth. I’ve brushed at least 2x day, sometimes 3, used floss, fluoride mouth rinse, for decades. My teeth are still nasty. When the free clinic comes in the Spring, I think I’ll be getting me a 3-4 extractions, one root canal and capping, plus a bridge up front top. I’m tired of being self conscious in public.
I have a friend and his teeth were black at the age of 14 !!! His parents neglected him because of the alcohol problem they had . At the age of 20 all of his teeth were removed. It's really terrible what his parents did to him or rather what they didn't do when he was just a kid...😢
Oddly enough, the only thing that gives me anxiety when visiting my dentist is the bill. I was so spoiled by my active duty benefits that I had no idea how private insurance works. Thank god for my hunny who showed me and takes care of a lot of the paperwork. 🤣👍🤙
I love the dentist - and I've had plates and braces. I feel amazing after seeing the dental hygienist, and despite being scared of needles, I didn't even notice when the dentist gave me a filling. I've been lucky in regards to dental experiences lol I'm not an 'anti-denti' 😏
My Mom was very frightened of the dentist, but was careful not to let it show to me. I had a couple if stressful experiences, but overall have no problems.
I'm not entirely certain of the location but I believe it was Carthage where skeletons were examined and found that their teeth were almost uniformly perfect with no indication of cavities. Apparently, they didn't eat anything with refined sugars and practiced excellent oral hygiene.
I was very sick as infant, and as a result my teeth have no enamel on them. Long story short ive been to the dentists hundreds of times, cavaties root canals and crowns were just a part of life. thanks to my dentist i had one tooth go black chip and i had to get it pulled out, then i had another tooth he dug a hole into filled it then the metal came out it chipped then half to tooth came out, i also had a shive after he pulled my tooth and instead of pulling it out he was cutting it down and it hurt like hell i haven't been back to the dentist in 5 years
Oooohhh.. you have my sympathy! Nothing is worse than having a horrible experience at the dentist 😫 I went to a dentist 20 years ago and she must have been a clinical diagnosed psychopath. Without getting into the 1½ hours of nightmarish torture. I developed a fear of dentist and did not go to a dentist for 6 years. Until I had to go because of a terrible toothache, and then I met my new dentist. 10-15 minutes in the chair with him explaining every single step, and how gentle and honest he was feeding me information about the procedure. I was totally cured of any fear. So do some research and find a pationate, professional and empathic dentist. It will literary change your life
I love going to the dentist and usually fall asleep in the chair at some point. The more it hurts, the more I know it's being done for my own good. I think I might have a problem. 😁
What I didn't like about going to the dentist was how uncomfortable the process to take X-rays of your teeth was it is now way less uncomfortable at the dentist office I go to
Part 1: “They gave some of them extra sugar and watched if they got cavities” Okay guys a bit unethical, maybe y’all should have tried reducing sugar and looking for less cavities instead. But I guess it’s important information to know and as far as unethical science goes this isn’t that bad… Part 2: “They intentionally flooded them with sugar to watch their teeth rot away.” Why??? It’s completely unnecessary and utterly psychotic… y’all already proved the point you can stop now...
Shameful that this has happened among humans. More shameful that things like this are still going on, though it's barely acceptable that we're getting better.
I’ve never had a cavity and never had wisdom teeth. Very lucky. I’m convinced dental floss destroys your teeth by wearing away the enamel. I’ve never used dental floss. I do however use a water pick and I drink lots of water.
It is complicated for us now - if we use data from such abuses are we condoning the experiments? Yet if we pretend the data isn't there, are we making their suffering even more meaningless; pretending that the abuses didn't happen by ignoring the findings? (Finding it hard to word that second option - hope people can grasp what I mean) The fact that countries continued to do such things even whilst condemning the Nazi camp experiments, even whilst agreeing ethics rules that these cases break....
And, let's not forget that sugar is a neuro toxin as well. These poor people were basically poisoned as well. We don't consider it that way, because sugar is everywhere. But if seen for what it is, they were poisoned.
Feels like i'm the only swede that doesn't like candy. Even as a child I maybe ate a piece here or there but I never thought OMG it's so good... Even today I eat no candy.
Perhaps I've just been lucky to have really excellent dentists growing up, but I've had exceptional dentists and don't mind going to the dentist at all, I'm guessing that this is not and common as I thought...
I am over 80, had good regular dental care since 1966, at age 22, as I was in college and USAir Force ROTC to be an officer. I first required remedial dental work, and today have all my teeth, except for a rear wisdom tooth, and of course fillings and crowns. Success. 😅

I went to my dentist and found only 1 wisdom tooth, im 21 so i should have them all. But she called me evolved so im going with that lmao
Nice bullshit story...
Another swede here. Been waiting for this one. Figured it was only a matter of time. Pure horror!!
Researcher: “these kids have teeth that are better than the teeth of children in the general population….we can’t have that, can we?”
Didn’t we know that refined sugar rotted teeth back when Henry VIII and his court started having dental issues way faster than their parents had?
Refined sugar didn't exist in Tudor times
@@kinglionkayce sugar was brought to England in the 11th century and by the 16th it was becoming industrialized, the upper class definitely consumed a lot of refined sugar in Henry VIIIs time
@@kinglionkayceit sure did. They were eating “Tudor roses” and making and eating plates out of sugar. Elizabeth I also had horribly rotted teeth.
Refined sugar doesn’t directly cause tooth decay the bacteria in your mouth break down sugar into acids that do exactly what you think they it’s any form of sugar refined, raw, fructose it doesn’t matter so brush and floss and it shouldn’t be a problem
The tudor courts were completely addicted to sugar
I actually work with people who was in this study. It's horrible, and they are still paying the price for these experiments😢
What were the precise recommendations made for dental health. Do "all the sweets you want but only once a week" mean no jam, cake, dessert, sugar in coffee or tea? No one shares the rules outside of Sweden or the Swedish language. Are there limits on starchy foods too?
'mouths full of missing teeth'
Think about what you just said Simon.
Pretty much. My teeth are cracking and breaking apart. Have been saving up to get implant dentures.

@@Volundur9567 My sister got hers done a couple of years ago. It takes a lot of follow up appointments and adjustments, but she's actually smiling with her whole mouth for the first time in decades... which is terrible since she's in her 30's.
This is unnerving what governments do to innocent people. It never stops. I wish it would stop. It still goes on.
The instant a dentist starts poking around in my mouth i start uncontrollably hyperventilating. Then they refuse to work on me. It's a real problem for me as it makes it impossible to get routine work done, i have to be unconscious and they won't do that for minor stuff. And i am not wealthy so can't afford it except for the really big issues every 5 years or so. Its affected my life negatively for decades.
@@GhostKestrel Tried valium, and another stronger drug I forget the name of. Didnt help. Its all from a dentist screaming at me when I was a little kid. Probably need years of therapy.
You can get dental work done under anesthesia nowadays.
@ferretyluv i have. Its just much much more expensive. Insurance does not cover it for stuff that isn't major.
My dentist prescribed me xanax. Got four pills for about five dollars, no insurance. BIG help for me. Maybe see if that is an option for you.
I 💯 empathize and agree with you.
@@mason96575You think being called a fruitcake is a homo slur, but that would be fruit.
Fruitcake means insane.
@irimac1806 that's okay because by 2030, you'll be able to grow new teeth 😊
Man I love the Dentist. I feel pampered because someone is taking care of me for a change. I actually have to warn them that I may be so comfortable that I will fall asleep in a cleaning.
Sorry. The way you pronounced ”lördagsgodis” was really funny. 😂
“Lord daag sugodees” lol
Last time I saw a dentist was in July 1987 when in a racing accident @ 155mph I was crashed head on into a concrete retaining wall. I ate the steering wheel and knocked out over 75% of my teeth. The rest were removed so I could eat.
Did the steering wheel give you bad gas or indigestion later on?
No dentist for 35 years? Your mouth must be one nasty hole.
It's still worth getting dental check ups for cancer risks.
Vipeholm is a high school (equivalence) today. There’s dark vibes in its walls
1:27 If you're poor, that's how they do it today too.
Pretty much. I have two holes in my mouth where teeth fell out.

When I was young, only one dentist in our area took the state insurance my mom had for me and my brother. It was apparently never a good experience, and we stopped going as soon as she found someone else to take us to. Even though I don't remember him at all, the experience still left me with a deep fear of dentists and dental procedures.
Not to mention the Tuskegee experiment.
Before 2020 I might have been surprised, now I think "of course they did".
Sweden still don't care that much about us disabled people. The folk health authority managed to convince almost the entire population that "masks don't work so why bother."
This country hasn't learned anything.
(As it was for me)
It would actually impress the importance of ethics on the researchers of the future, by showing just how bad it got - instead of a tick box lecture churning out another student cohort with a subtle disdain for ethics as “red tape”.

They could’ve just asked me. I live on sugar and my teeth are more metal and resin than anything
Nothing sweden is proud of.....
It seems to me that they could have easily done this experiment with already extracted teeth. Dissolve the sugar in water and then place the teeth in the liquid.
I brushed my teeth immediately after watching this video.
No time quite like the 1940s for cruelty
Not a high point for humanity overall, there.
You mention experiment on the peoples of the US by the government. While I am aware of some of these experiments, mostly by the military on military personal, I would love to hear more. Are these available or are they in the works?
As a Swede working with autist, this in incredibly interesting and horrifying.
I see some bad ideas being created………… WELCOME to the American research money hole. How much of your soul would you like to sell today?
I'm literally eating Skittles as I watch this...😬😅
What's really wild is looking at historical death records. Before the mass importation of sugar and sugar cane, very few died from "teeth", after that the numbers skyrocketed. It's just that the connection is so gradual and life spans were not as long, people just didn't see it.
I did not know that about Sweden and their oral health care, cool.
1:31 “…leaving many adults with mouths full of missing teeth.” Does that sound wrong to anyone else? How can a mouth be full of something missing?
This sounds like actual hell, I have untreated teeth with severe cavities(thanks to the impossibility of getting a damn dentist appointment set up for myself) and I can tell you from personal experience that the thought of kys is real because of the agony that is tooth decay
Imagine their pain 😔
I had a cavity once - it was brutal.
I hate you.
I have to ask. Have you really only had one?
@@Copper_Skull_Guy it only took one to learn my lesson. I’ve kept up on those 6 month appointments since. ☠

Yeah, my husband is a martial arts instructor. I'm a wuss so I'm pretty thorough with my dental hygiene routine.
I had to study that as part of my dental training 😬
4:44 I'm seeing a ton of people with Down Syndrome there, which makes it even more sad. When their love of life and joy is fostered, they can still achieve great things. It's such a shame that they were treated so horribly.
it actually makes me feel a little sick that i'm from sweden, even studied healthcare at one point, and had no prior knowledge of this.
Wrong channel, but a video on the 1957 nuclear disater in Cumberland, UK
WoW radiation in the porridge makes me think back to the old Readybrek adverts with the kids with a red glow around them 😱
Thus is the stuff of nightmares... literally; I often have dreams where my teeth fall out
What if you just inherited the bad teeth.

1:19 That's it. As someone with dentophobia, that's all I could take. I'm ashamed I didn't make it to the sound of a drill.
11:25 Someone should forward this ethical statement to Dr Josef Heiter. 😂
Yea trust the government they say.
I was very sick as infant, and as a result my teeth have no enamel on them. Long story short ive been to the dentists hundreds of times, cavaties root canals and crowns were just a part of life. Oooohhh.. you have my sympathy!
It will literary change your life
Maybe the reason so many of us are traumatized from the dentists chair... Because it always kinda felt like they were experimenting on us.
I love going to the dentist and usually fall asleep in the chair at some point.
The more it hurts, the more I know it's being done for my own good.
I think I might have a problem. 😁

What I didn't like about going to the dentist was how uncomfortable the process to take X-rays of your teeth was it is now way less uncomfortable at the dentist office I go to
Part 1: “They gave some of them extra sugar and watched if they got cavities”
Okay guys a bit unethical, maybe y’all should have tried reducing sugar and looking for less cavities instead. But I guess it’s important information to know and as far as unethical science goes this isn’t that bad…
Part 2: “They intentionally flooded them with sugar to watch their teeth rot away.”
Why??? It’s completely unnecessary and utterly psychotic… y’all already proved the point you can stop now...
Shameful that this has happened among humans. More shameful that things like this are still going on, though it's barely acceptable that we're getting better.
Who else went and brushed their teeth?
Not for 20 years now. And sporadically before that.

It is complicated for us now - if we use data from such abuses are we condoning the experiments? Yet if we pretend the data isn't there, are we making their suffering even more meaningless; pretending that the abuses didn't happen by ignoring the findings? (Finding it hard to word that second option - hope people can grasp what I mean)
The fact that countries continued to do such things even whilst condemning the Nazi camp experiments, even whilst agreeing ethics rules that these cases break....
And, let's not forget that sugar is a neuro toxin as well. These poor people were basically poisoned as well. We don't consider it that way, because sugar is everywhere. But if seen for what it is, they were poisoned.
