One of the greatest comedians of all time. The world is a much duller place without Les.

My late Father used to work the taxis in the seventies and he used to do the airport runs to the Theatre Royal Norwich, he used to pick up several of the celebrities back in the day, but he said that Les Dawson was the most generous always giving a £5 tip.

I knew Les and his family at this time and went to school with his son and daughter. I once played trumpet at a school Christmas concert and Les commented to the lady sat next to him how bad the performance was, he was right, I was terrible but what he didn’t know is that the lady sat next to him was my mum.
You didn’t cross my mum but it all ended in laughter.
Great man was Les, with a great family. I never knew what happened to his two children he had with Meg

I am midway through his autobiography, easily one of the best written biographies around. At this time you can still pick it up for less than the price of postage. The reason he looks so gobsmacked is he was worried his wife was having an affair, due to silent phone calls and home visits of strange men to his house when he was out. Of course it was only the show team arranging this episode.

I know he worked with writers, but there was just something about him that made him the funniest man ever. Eric Morecambe and Tommy Cooper would always get the plaudits, but for me, Les was the greatest.

My dad used to work at Lytham crematorium & knew les Dawson. Les used to come to the crematorium to visit his wife's grave . Whenever they saw each whilst driving they'd wind the window down & stick two fingers up at each other.

Les was among the best of men. A great comedian and indeed 'wordsmith' : Les Dawson was a lovely genuine person!
The mere sight of Hughie Green sets my teeth on edge; ... a bully and a bigot. Green was just a nasty and bitter man!

My girlfriends mother who used to run a brothel in Hong Kong back in the 1960s/70's has a nice picture of LD and her together, he used to play the piano in a French house of ill repute to put the punters off kilter... I think the place in HK was a kind of topless bar type thing often frequented by people on leave etc etc etc

I thought that. 4 years after opportunity knocks? he starred in pantomime, and a short-lived bbc show. maybe after he did blankety-blank. and the production was a bit of a mess. that friend from the scout troop, what the hell did he say? and that set. wow.

A British Comedy legend. Just like Tommy Cooper or Tony Hancock or Spike Milligan....all you had to do was look at them and you'd find yourself laughing. 😂
