my jaw just dropped to the floor at 5:10 - being able to copy an arp to the sequencer by pressing shift-A or shift-B. that's.. unexpected, and most welcome. you guys have really thought these things through :o
This is such a well designed synth. It feels playful, yet has so much depth and flexibility. It reminds me of the sonic pallet of the OP-1 but in a more traditional form-factor, which is inspiring.
Have had mine for two weeks now. Amazing synth. I think you guys are ready for the next step in digital synths. I dream of a multi layer big brother of the Microfreak.
I was a couple of months into owning this- for the second time- before I realised it even had a sequencer. This may be the clearest demo of its function, but I suspect that I’ll need to watch this several times before being able to actually create one.
I just got one today! I have bad eyes so I could not even see the graphics in brown that relate to sequencer function. Glad I watchedyour video, now I understand!
i'm just a guitar player but this tutorial seems easy to understand and i think i'll buy a MicroFreak because i want to try it and it's not too expensive.
I too am a guitarist, playing bout 13 14 years now. The price point was a big seller for me. I had my for a couple of days, and have learned a lot already. Its a lot of new terminology I haven't heard in my time as a guitarist and that has been the hardest part of me. Did you ever get one? How has it worked for you?
Dear Arturia. Since you've already brought out at least two special editions of the Microfreak (Vocoder and Stellar) I have a request for a third. In the interest of accessibility, please replace the ribbon/icon ui for the sequencer with physical buttons.
The Sequencer's features are blowing 🤯 reallly like it! but... I watching this video like 4th time for the last few months. each time to refresh in memory needed button-knob combinations how to use it 😅the video is cool and clear though. so much to remember to me =)
I'm a few months late, but yes. Both sequences can have up to 4 layers of automation recorded to it! So you could record a sweep through a wave table or changing the rate of the LFO for example.
@@8thlvlMage Thanks! So, one more question. Can Sequence A have a different set of recorded automation lanes, and can Sequence B have a different set of recorded automation lanes. By this I mean that they can of course have different content, but can the 4 layers of recorded automation be of completely different parameters, say Cutoff,Resonance,LFOSpeed,Glide on Sequence A, and something completely different on Sequence B?
I got my MF this month and when I live record a sequence it just won't replay my initial playing : it will start with a silence or with the lasta notes of my sequence. it presents also some swing when I make more rythmic patterns. Also I found an arpeggiator bug : when I trigger notes on the keyboard the arpeggiator will start with a silence and the note note played = more obvious at low tempo and low rate. Discussing it with Arturia's support and they'll look into it for next firmware upgrade Anyone has these issues? be all well!
Exact same issues. For me, it makes the sequencer fairly useless which is terribly unfortunate. I may send it back rather than cross my fingers on a firmware upgrade since Arturia didn't even include a simple metronome. And no pre-roll? No unquantized recording? Just a bunch of different synth voices in one box, which is cool, and I like the responsiveness of the lack-of-keys-keyboard. It's perfect for playing rhythmically which makes me want a good sequencer even more!!
@@cls6200 agrees it is pretty useless without metronome itself. I figured out if use it with other device like drum machine and send clock to microFreak I'm able to play in right time. also you can change sequencer grid division with Rate/Swing knob setting it higher so it will be less quantized
@@cls6200 a 'simple metronome' isn't so simple to implement when you understand how a synth like this is developed. The developer of the sequencer at Arturo's explained this on Elektronauts a little while ago.
I know I'm late to this thread but yeah my sequencer is all kinds of buggy. I've updated firmware and everything is up to date but i still can't delete sequences. All i can do is replace one note at a time with a rest. I can't shorten the sequence length either. Stuck with 64 steps. I've tried everything. Read the f***ing manual, tried every button combo and watched a dozen tutorials. I love how simple he makes it sound too. Hold sequence A or B and touch the hold button to clear the sequence. Yeah, no. It doesn't work. It just adds a rest and goes to the next step.
I have a Novation Bass Station 2, and wanted to buy the Korg Monologue... but I think this will fit better. I don't like those keyboards but for the price it has, its sound and options... I think I won't complain.
yes i would only buy it for this killer sequencer feature! i love my 101 sequencer but he can only send monophonic notes. i`m would love to trigger chord notes (polyphonic) with my drum machine. please implement it in you next update arturia!
If I understand you correctly, I think this will definitely work if you set the clock of the MF to "one step". This way, the sequencer/arp goes to the next step each time it receives a gate/trigger signal. I am using it like that in combination with my Marbles eurorack module, which can provide rhytmic clock signals for example.
Hi! Is it possible add more layers/patterns in the sequence? I mean, buil a base with a sounds and then use another different sound from library and so (like digitark or Roland S-1). Thank you.
Thanks Arturia for this great value for money product. I have a problem to which I cannot seem to find any solution anywhere. While recording a sequence I accidentally touched the filter cutoff button (it was at 233kHz), which means that everytime the sequence reaches that step, it will reset the filter cutoff at 233kHz, which I do not want. Of course I could simply move the filter cutoff to another frequency, but it would not solve my problem as it would just all the time reset it to that new frequency. Reseting the step with the hold button also doesn't work. I simply want the sequence to not influence my filter anymore, is there anyway to do this?
The last year I've been using mostly the arp and not delved into the sequencer but holy shit I didn't realise there was automation sequencing! It's indeed a whole new level!
I've double-checked the manual but I can't see it anywhere. Is it possible to copy from pattern A to B within the same patch? Absolutely killer synth. I don't think I've loved anything as much since I bought my first Machinedrum over 10 years ago! Beautifully designed. ;) X
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have a qq: Can you or how do you play longer than one step notes in the sequencer? If i want the first 4 steps to be a continues C1 note, how do you program that? Also can you add accents, or change the velocity for each step in edit mode? thanks :)
Does sequence transpose only work while the Shift button ist pressed (or does it at least work from MIDI input without Shift)? Couldn't that be made a changeable option from the editor software tool, because it's awkward to play. And instead hiding the sequence length in the menu, this could better be made available e.g. with shift+LFO Rate, for live changing the pattern length during play.

Hi Joe! You can erase motion sequencing by holding "Tie | Rest " and then click on "Oct | Mod". The light will blink and it will erase the last recorded motion. When you are on sequencing mode, each light represents a motion. I hope it helps :) Best regards.

The developer advised that the sequencer function was added late into development and that to add a metronome would effectively need to utilise one of the four synth voices, which wouldn't be ideal. However they were considering a visual metronome in the form of a blinking light.
