This is why race-swapping existing characters is so unnecessary. There are PLENTY of Black characters that float around virtually untouched. Develop them!
Jace actually being a deep cut and not a race swap is one of the reasons I got on board! But agreed! We can do with what we got. Thanks for commenting dawg!
Thankyou I just commented this. We have steel, vixen, black lighting, John Stewart and static to name a few. Jace fox, Joe Mullen, Duke Thomas and Luke fox are not necessary nor should they exist.
I have this theory I’d like to share. I believe DC has an editorial issue with using ‘afro-convenience’ for hype, only to discard Jace Fox without giving him a real chance to shine. When Jace was Batman, there was a competing 'Batman' in Lex Luthor, and Ghostmaker entered in a big way, taking over Batman Inc. (which could have been Jace’s role from Bruce). Even Bruce Wayne himself was in a low-budget Batman phase. Eventually, they pushed Jace out of Gotham and into New York, letting John Ridley write a character-driven drama for him instead of answering core questions like: 'Why is he Batman?' There was so much potential for Jace that ended up going elsewhere: we saw Luke Fox as a ‘Black Tony Stark’ in The Outsider (a role that could've been Jace's), and Duke was portrayed as the future Black Batman (another role that could’ve fit Jace). And now, in *Absolute Batman*, there's an alternate reality where the ‘Batman from the streets’ (a role that Jace could've owned) is given to Bruce Wayne. So, despite all the covers and hype surrounding a Black Batman, it feels like DC killed that momentum before it could even deliver. It seems like there’s no real editorial interest in developing a character that could make Batman feel fresh and relevant again.
Funny enough, what you're saying ties into my thoughts about the Future State initiative as a whole. I don't believe DC was truly behind the Legacy/Future State motif like they made it seem. Its an open secret now that Before Didio Left, a lot of the writers in the DC Bullpen were NOT fans of the 5G Initiative. But stuff was still set in place that had to be used. Jace Fox was a casualty of that which probably explains why he ended up in that state and not slotted in places to your point grow as a character and make Batman feel feel fresh. Hell, i was even poking around Reddit and apparently writers were NOT allowed to use Jace in their stories. With the change in regime, I see his return as a way to possibly rectify that and I believe the creative team present could give us that second chance. I REALLY appreciate you commenting btw.
If I recall correctly, the guy with the metal fist & beard was the founder of The Power Company, in the original version of that comic. Late 90s/ early 2000s? His last name WAS Power and they were a corporate hero team, I think. For hire.
I don't really care for jace. he needs his own identity. Its not hard, we shouldn't tokenize his existence by making him the "black batman". Make a new persona and name and get him over with the audience. Writers have been doing this for years. Why change something that isn't broke?
@@RoliverQueenReviews TBH the pivot should've happened after his failed batman run. But i agree its still early, i personally think giving him and other black characters their own identity will do wonders for their brands.
None of these characters have weight to have solo books. And I hate derivative characters with no personality or substance so this is a hard pass for me.
Idk man, cyborg had a VERY strong Mini last year. I’m also reading far sector atm and It’s up there with being a great Green Lantern tale. The stuff with Duke has been solid. I tuned out of Black Adam…. But I see whatchu sayin with Jace at least! Thanks for commenting dawg!

I'm not excited but I'm glad John Ridley doesn't write him anymore. It's like you said, Ridley messed it all up. He just might turn out better with this
Duke needs to use this as an opportunity to graduate outta the signal identify and fly into finally adopting the identity of the lark. He has earned it
If we want to see these characters continue on beyond a limited series or one shot, you have to buy it. If it doesn’t sell, it won’t matter how good it is. It will get canceled. I plan on checking it out as long as it runs.
I’m pre-ordering this book because they’re giving me what I’ve been asking for forever. If the story and art are good and the arch stay good then I’m just gonna keep on subscribing to the book. Hopefully Brandon Thomas does well.
Yeah Future State was a half cocked initiative that I believe DC wasn’t too invested in. But now that it’s gone, I’m here for what they’re trying with Jace. Thanks for commenting dawg!
I think if he is written like he was in the Future State Book or better and has a good art... I think he can work really well. I feel Ridley got bored of writing him partway which is why he sucks around the end.
@@RoliverQueenReviews I hope so and I been fiending for an all black Justice League Team but I hope them being black isn't solely what the book is about like how they do shit. Just a regular team up that happens to be a bunch of black heroes
@@RoliverQueenReviews lol :) fair enough and honestly truth be told I am hoping I am wrong 😑 and this book could make me give a damn about Jace fox Batman but we shall see if this book succeeds in 2025.
We just don't need another Batman running around. Never liked this guy same goes for his brother Batwing (stupid name) and Duke Thomas. I never liked these guys from inception same goes for this Jo Mullen in the GL side. Black lightning, static, John stewart, cyborg, thunder, Vixen plenty of black characters.
Relax, buddy. He’s in a book that probably no one will read, honestly. This just screams “ DC’s version of the crew; instead black avengers, it’s black Justice League.”
Y’all just learned the word DEI a few days ago and Won’t stop spamming it lol. And your logic ankh commercial reason or fan interest could be applied to several other characters with books. Blow me.
@RoliverQueenReviews of course the label of dei could apply to more characters. 10 years of characters starting with the first dei character, Miles Morales. It's a word I have been using for a few years
How we feeling about Jace Fox Returning?! AM I TRIPPIN????
I want DC does him right this time.
It's just going to get what happened before laughed emojis from the internet

Thats Josiah Power from the original Power Company from 2002.
Ah! Now I know what to read. Much appreciated dawg! 🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥
Jace shouldn't be a Batman. He should have his own identity
I don’t mind someone writing him as Batman better. But I’m also open to having his own identity

Haven’t heard any word about season 3 of static. But there is a new milestone event happening soon though 🤔

A Batman for New York that’s not really connected to the Batfam. I like the conveyor

Dumb idea because it rides on the popularity of an existing character. Should've made him an original hero with no association to Batman.

DC Black POWER

When will this debut????
January 2025 dawg!
So DC is copying Marvel early 2000 The Crew.

it's crazy to think that people actually think Jace is better than Bruce, Those people belong in Arkham Asylum.
