- Most people don't talk about Chief's theme because it is not well known, and also there are 2 of them which confuses things. I'm not sure if Kazuma Jinnouchi knew that Halo 2 and 3 had a Master Chief theme when he composed 117, but it is understandable to miss that from Halo 2 and 3. According to Marty O'Donnell however, it is.
117 was Halo 4's take on Chief's theme. How could there be 2 themes for the same character? Hard to answer because there totally was not originally meant to be 2 themes, but the best way to explain it away is this: I see Jinnouchi's theme as representing Chief and his combat prowess, his influence, his humanity, and his place in the UNSC. I see O'Donnell's version as a more spiritual theme, representing his past, his "Last Spartan" nature, and his place in the universe.
Both are vastly different in terms of sounds and timbres, so I did my best to merge them without it sounding awkward. A lot of pitch and tempo altering had to happen so that they are in the same key, making the transitions a little bit more comfortable.
