Nafplio, Greece 🇬🇷 - Walking the first capital of Greece [4K, subtitles]

Nafplio, a very atmospheric town located in Western Greece, in the Peloponnese, about 150 km from Athens.
Interestingly, Nafplio was the first modern capital of Greece. Why did this happen? In 1821, a pan-Hellenic independence movement broke out, today called the Greek War of Independence. The first city to be liberated from the Turkish yoke was Nafplio, although it took the insurgents almost a year. It was only on the night of November 29-30, 1822 that the first rebels broke into the Palamidi fortress, and three days later the starved Turkish forces decided to capitulate and leave the city.
Until 1834, Nafplio served as the first capital of the reborn Greece and was the meeting place of the Hellenic parliament.
One could ask a question - why the first capital of the reborn Greek state was a small city located in the Argolic Gulf, and not the great city of Athens. The answer is simple - at the beginning of the 19th century, Athens was a modest settlement that occupied a small area surrounding the famous Acropolis of Athens. Nafplio was much better fortified and less accessible. In 1834, when the situation of independent Greece stabilized, the capital was moved to Athens and the city began to gradually expand.
Without a doubt, it is a very charming city that really surprised me with its beauty. I definitely recommend visiting.
