  • This is a general introduction to fallacious reasoning for undergraduates. The following fallacies are discussed:
Ad hominem: This fallacy occurs when an argument is rebutted by attacking the character, motive, or other attribute of the person making the argument, rather than addressing the substance of the argument itself.
Ad ignorantiam: This fallacy occurs when a proposition is claimed to be true because it has not yet been proven false, or vice versa.
Ad misericordiam: Also known as the appeal to pity, this fallacy occurs when someone attempts to win support for an argument or idea by exploiting feelings of pity or guilt rather than providing relevant evidence or reasoning.
Ad populum: This fallacy occurs when an argument is based on the popularity of a belief or proposition among the general public, rather than on its validity or evidence.
Begging the question: Also known as circular reasoning, this fallacy occurs when the conclusion of an argument is assumed in one of the premises, making the argument invalid.
Complex question: This fallacy occurs when a question is asked in such a way that it presupposes the truth of a controversial or questionable assumption.
Equivocation: This fallacy occurs when a term or phrase is used in multiple senses within an argument, leading to a false conclusion.
Slippery slope: This fallacy occurs when it is claimed that a relatively small first step will inevitably lead to a chain of related events culminating in some significant impact or result, without providing sufficient evidence for the causal connection.
False cause: Also known as post hoc ergo propter hoc, this fallacy occurs when it is assumed that because one event followed another, the first event must have caused the second event, without considering other possible explanations.
False dilemma: This fallacy occurs when only two options are presented as possible outcomes or choices, when in reality there are more alternatives available.
Overgeneralization: This fallacy occurs when a conclusion is drawn from a limited or unrepresentative sample, and then applied to a larger population or set of circumstances.
Red herring: This fallacy occurs when irrelevant or distracting information is introduced to divert attention away from the main issue or argument.
Strawman: This fallacy occurs when a distorted or exaggerated version of an opponent's argument is presented and then attacked, rather than addressing the actual argument or position that was originally presented.
Genetic Fallacy: This fallacy occurs when the validity of a claim or argument is judged based on its origin or history, rather than its current merits or truthfulness.

    Gigachad move:
Step 1) explain why begging the question is fallacious.
Step 2) immediately proceed to beg the question of whether abortion is murder

Did youth really believe flat earth in 2010s under that movement?
I know that many in that time seemed to think that people used to believe that even though they never did unless it's some fringe or foreign place idk .
I know royal society & European aristocracy spread roomers to scare explorers of the new world as they raced to colonize.
But only an atheistic Darwin argument uses it but they also argued against phenotype ,code and many other things as well that's more interesting than that was .

Hi, I don't know how many flat-earthers there were in the 2010s, but in ancient times, most people were. Many interesting ideas here! It will be fun to revisit some of these!

@Phil-0-Suffer no the earth was spherically measured around the time of Jesus and was widely known by all literate class of people across all countenants especially all in the western hemisphere.
But in areas where they are drinking blood and sacrificing each other its no telling what was thought of but we have no way of knowing such things that aren't recorded

@Phil-0-Suffer 2010s it was definitely a group who believed I just wasn't sure it wasn't more of a test your ability to prove things.
But to say the past was flat earth,
This is like saying modern philosophy that uses unicorns 🦄 the Islamic fairy tale pagasis as examples or place mark zombie for thought experiments really believe that even though they know letter for letter translator always knew one horn or 2 horn rhino was a unicorns or duocornus.
Separated from Egypt with no visual context lead many in crusades to bring back such depictions.
But when you sit at a camp fire under a full moon anyone can hold there hands up and imulate shadowing and see that it's a sphere lol
To think.so little of the past is the corruptions

@Phil-0-Suffer I do know members of royal society, parliament the Spanish,French & Portuguese royal courts spread rumors of being attack by sea monsters, ice mountain or even fall off the edge of the earth propaganda was spread heavily while the race to colonize the new world so it could've a wide range of quackery in the slaves ,serfs and peasant fringes we don't have record of

@Phil-0-Suffer great work here in the context of everything but your orientation may have missed some excersizes of these Tools & practices .
1900s structuralism was extremely full of revisionist history and things like this so its not any individual fault .
We need a flat earth or equal movement and excersize about every 40 years apparently as a a modern academic society. Lol
In a world that 90 years ago wasn't operator friendly enough for women to open doors because of shotty construction or without policing safe environment we definitely get amnesia of separated from the past quickly .
