I love 'the monuments within'; thank you sister Peace! You are so beautiful! I have travelled in Africa, and admired the African woman, her strength, humour and way of getting on with what has to be done. They were full of fun, calling out "Mama", touching our faces, clothes. I wrote a song about them: "African Sisters, don't carry my burden any more........etc........but teach me your smile". This IS a HEALING TIME; lets all do it. Thank you for walking your talk!.

Thank you Sister Peace for this Dharma talk, the invitation to look within and explore my own discomfort that arises, what is triggering in me, what is the fear, what do I have to loose, where is this rooted - ancestral trauma, and truly understanding so I continue to soften and open, knowing discomfort tends to lead to real growth. Also this naming of glacial harmony within a sangha - the frozen or slow moment of our sangha river when trying to avoid discomfort/sharing or feelings, may the practice support us.

Thank you, sister Peace, the volume of the recording was just loud enough. In The Netherlands we have an expression that goes "Working through the rice-pudding-mountain" when we move through tribulations and painful transformations in life. I've worked through a mountain range of that, I think.
The discovery I've found, during deep pondering and wondering, moving through the rice pudding-mountain, that I'm free to make everything a choice, even emotions, feelings, reactions with judgements, a task, how I spend the day, how I am with a companion, has offered me a joyful realization that making everything a choice, not only involves taking conscious responsibility but also the discipline that is part of my autonomy, which strengthens confidence, and the use of an inner compass that allows for adjustment in a choice I've made, or the making of a whole new choice.
In younger years, I've carried responsibility as a burden, due to a strict Calvinistic upbringing, with the all-seeing eye of God watching me, in the grip of fear for the devil and the risk of going to hell. Even while trying to be good. I've learned much about the nature of manmade Church Institutes.
When conditions and circumstances change, or there's an eagerness to try out what works for me and for the larger picture in which I'm a piece of the puzzle. Or a member of a community. A human being with all of you around the planet.

I remember those beautiful murals that arose during the people of color retreats at Deerpark...and how I so enjoyed and benefited from the diversity that seemed nurtured after them...how a genuine welcoming space was created...

Boundless gratitude to you, dear Sister. Tonight our sangha begins to devote one meeting/month to studying and practicing with awareness of the suffering caused by oppression. We will listen to the section on chiseling "savage" off the monument. A perfect beginning for us as we make our way. I believe we will see that "compassion is a verb." With so much love and a lotus for you from Peaceful Garden Sangha in Brookline, MA, USA

Thank you Sister Peace. Watching and listening to you now is like a balm to my soul. It has been a few years since we met at Lower Hamlet, and I am so pleased to learn you are back in the US now and working with kids In juvenile hall. What a great gift! I will look for ways to take action to support and grow the work you are doing. So much love to you ❤️
