For any kids out there. This is honestly a great step to get you comfortable with tools. Working on projects like this when I was kid really helped me later on in life. Built a mini mini half pipe for cheap when I was younger. Neighbors loved me mowing their lawns, but hated me when I didn't need me money for my halfpipe any more lol.

I work at Lowe’s and I will say if you need wood it’s there for free. When big bundles of wood come in they have little 2x3x4s on the bottom so the forklift forks can get under it. I have just today made a PVC grind rail, but much worse than the one in this video. However, by taking a 1' by 9' thick MDF plank, propped up on one end by a couple bricks, I have a rudimentary roll-in to roll me into the grind rail... It is all so basic and crap, but I still feel like I have technically started to build a Skatepark in some super junkyard sense, and the thought alone is very exciting and inspiring...

The force due to friction is generally independent of the contact area between the two surfaces. This means that even if you have two heavy objects of the same mass, where one is half as long and twice as high as the other one, they still experience the same frictional force when you drag them over the ground.

Pro tip from a inline skater, if you are worried about cracking a PVC pipe, fill it up with Pur Foam before drilling the holes and mounting it (filling it afterwards is possible to but it will make a big mess). Filling it with Pur Foam will make the rail much much more resistant to cracking. and its only a few bucks.

I used to be sponsored by my local shop when I lived in Florida and the owner hooked me up with an awesome rail, but I moved to lame ass Tennessee and I couldn't bring the rail. This don't have anything to do with this video but anything skating brings me joy. Also you can go to Lowe's or Home Depot and buy a long metal pipe pretty cheap and extension to it so you can make the legs for the rail. But your idea is great and it works and it's basically free. Good video.

So they came down I used pallets scrap wood left overs and the left over pvc and they helped me build three box rails and two box ramps with ramps on all 4 sides and one with two ramps that ypu can land on two do the box rails. Ot took us maybe 2 hpurs to build it all and they was so happy. I was a poor military airforce brat kod in 90s and early 2000s amd had to male our own rails and ramps out of anything lol.

so, I've been doing carpentry for like 6 years now and its crazy how you can still pick up little tricks from watching other people. Like if you don't have a table saw the way you made the mark for the table of the skill saw was actually a great idea. I usually always just tried cutting the line by following it with the blade which even though it's not super hard doing it the way you did makes so much more sense.

Hey guys, I just made a PVC grind rail this afternoon! I watched this video maybe 2 weeks ago, and I finally pulled my thumb out and did it!
It is a complete mess compared to yours, the 2 x 4s were more like 1 x 3 than 1.5 x 3.5 and super flimsy materials designed to line the inside of a loft to hold insulation in, but the PVC pipe took a full truck impact from a Caveman so it seems to work!
I didn't have a good way to clamp and I don't have any table tools, so I had to wrestle the pipe and beams together with my legs like I was climbing a rope. Also, I didn't have a good way to angle cut the beams all the way along, so I just cut a flat 4" into one end of the beams, and put a roughly 1 foot beam of 2.4 under them, screwing it in so that it looks like an original-style Crucafix (T shaped).
Since the legs are only on one end, the whole Pipe bends down a little when you land on, and as the Beams are only screwed in at the ends and not the iddle, they bow outward in the middle as the pipe flexes down, but honestly it feels pretty solid still and it sort of feels like a ribcage which breathes as you put your weight on and off it. I sort of like the effect.
Best part, I used all materials from old housework projects which were necessary to comply with safety standards anyways, so technically I did not spend a single penny specifically to complete this project!
    _____
Thank you so much for this video. I basically knew everything you instructed already, thank to 'Design Tech' (my era's UK equivalent to the common US term 'Shop Class') but the reminders were invaluable. Furthermore, the most valuable part of all - inspiration. Your friendly natures, and the way you hang and have chill fun together while working, really inspired me more than anything.
Ripe old age of 30 and I have made my first skate obstacle with actual tools and effort. Thank you so much.

Just look up free fence material. You can usually get top rail that can be upwards of 20 ft and just slide together relatively seemlessly and id think would work perfectly and for manual pads just look up pallets and get 2 or 3 of them and throw some wood on the top and your good to go. You can find pretty much everything you need for free online with just a bit of ingenuity and craftsmanship. Sure it wont last extremely long but you should get a few months to year out of it.

My neighbor has a bunch of pipe/railing that he's throwing out... He also has a bed frame and he gave me a bunch of skids awhile back. I'm starting to build a manual pad/grind box along with a grind rail. Eventually I want to build a mini ramp.
My local skatepark is laughable so I'm just gonna start building and buying stuff for my house.

All triangles have 180 degrees between all three corners. ex. 90, 45, 45 or 60, 60, 60 would give you a good idea of what angles those cuts would need to be. In the video it would have been 30, 30, 120. 120 being the angle under the PVC

I appreciate y'all helping people learn how to make skate ramps and obstacles etc. Have you considered old bed frames? They make rad coping/rail material of you have a grinder...

I've made a rail outta PVC. The white pvc is good for slides 50 -50 the trucks dig in some but if you wax it. It grinds
