My living situation is not permanent. I have a 20g deep substrate tank and it is super heavy to move. Eventually deep substrate will be possible for the rest of my tanks. Right now I am using a combination of Fluval Stratum and Pool filter sand. Once I'm in a more permanent situation then I can add deeper substrate

Thank you Father Fish for another great video. I may have to play it back a couple of times to gather all the great info. I was very excited to see you share my mbuna setup in the video. I almost feel as famous as you. :). I have an entire fish room dedicated to the Father Fish deep substrate method. My tanks run off a central air system using just sponge filters. The Central Air allows me to run all 18 of my tanks using 1 pump. My Mbuna setup is still running great! I've been getting a lot of fry and recently moved the Jewel cichlids into their own tank. I hope to be a grandfather soon. Take care.

Always a pleasure, Sir! The guy that I rehomed my guppies to says my F1s are showing color and the red is happening. Though it wasn't his initial plan he isolated some of my other males for breeding, overall these 6mos have been a learning adventure. The content provided through various sources has been so beneficial that I felt confident in experimenting as the process exploded beyond my expectations.
The other day in Discord I inquired about the Tampa area betta source; any luck with finding a number? I think I'm looking for some plakat females, maybe from a couple sources....but, what do I know? It's a learning process, thanks for teaching!

Hi father fish! This video was very interesting, this has been my life long dream to become a fish breeder, I also want to be a fish biologist when I’m older. I’m currently 16. You seem like such a nice and kind guy that I’d love to have as a grandpa or something. I’m glad you love fish just as much as I do. Thanks for creating these videos for us sir. And one question: would you recommend keeping Kuhli loaches and neon tetra? And also, if I were to get a third species or fish, what would recommend? I’ve never had a fish tank before and just recently completed making my 20 gallon fish tank, it’s been waiting for about 3 weeks. You seem very knowledgeable in fish and I’d love to hear some recommendations you may have. Thank you!

Hey, Father Fish, I have a question for you. I have a substrate dirt but there is no sand on top of it. Can I put sand in it while there's water in the tank or do I need to drain the water out? Also, this question is not just for Father Fish if anyone has the answer it would really help. I am trying to create a natural tank that I don't have to maintain much, but I am just starting out and want to make sure my fish live
    long happy lives.

    Thanks for sharing your ideas.
So are you also thinking about water changes of 25 % a week if you plan a fishroom for yourself?
I mean, with the Walstad method this shouldn't be a concern, no?
or would you suggest more waterchanges for breeders?

    • @FatherFish

My fish room received water changes about every 3 months. Raising baby fish can involve more changes depending on the system use to raise them.

Sir, I had 6 molly fish (red, black and white pairs) 2 angel fish and 2 gourmi fish in a bowl with no air pump but a plant. The next day the 2 angel fish, and 3 molly fish died. The molly fishes were gasping for air at the surface of the bowl while the gourmi fish seemed calm swimming around without any problem. After 1 week one more molly fish died. It had babies in it. The remaining 2 molly fishes are still coming to the surface for air. I have a plant tho i dont know what to do! am using clean tap water with some salt for my fish's water. Please help!

    Father fish please answer this
I have a 1.5 gallon shrimp jar with guppy grass, cabomba, hygrophila stricta, duckweed, and bacopa (will get cryptocoryne parva and pearlweed this week)
But with all these plants, the shrimps are still suffocating and i lost 3 out of 5 of the shrimps
The parameters are all zero except a little bit of nitrates
It has one inch of soil and 2 inches of sand
It has no airstone but it has so many plants that it doesn't seem like an issue
Please answer this as in December, i will get a 5 gallon tank and overstock it with plants and a hanging filter with a sponge guard
Edit: i forgot to mention that i currently have an airstone put in but its only an emergency one and the flow is a little too high for the floaters to thrive long term

Planning is indeed the most important thing in this hobby and the young newbies like to forget it or they just go to the nearest fish shop and be like: "I want to buy this 10 gallon tank and...oh what is this tiny fish with the big eyes? So cute, give me 2 please!" And they might be Oscars or worse. This hobby and how to set it up for yourself is not like going to buy bread and ham at a supermarket or random shopping in...fore example a Zara Salon. Rules exist because, aquarists keep living creatures and this "gimme some of that random fishy" mentality leads to disasters for the fish and many newbie quit because stupid reasons like "my fish died because of this or that reason and this hobby s*c*s". Maybe they should not have arapaima in 25 gallon or 35 glowfish which have ick and let them die by ick. There is another way though: Git gud and plan before you make big decisions! 😂
