Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't they 3 round burst? At least in the initial part whenever Val kilmer lights up Bosco, you can tell by the spent casings.
The A2 on the selecter lever has single, three round, and full auto capability. By far the best model I have ever used and trained with. Especially when you are at the 600 yard known distance target, in the prone position, shooting in the three round burst! I would hit and many other marines shoot center mass with three rounds in a 5 inch circle!

I know because I actually carried both an A2, and an A4 before an M4. The only weapon I know that the US military utilizes that has more than three options on their firearms would be the MP5's..... With the upgraded trigger group. 2. Maximum effective range of an M16 is 550 M (600yds) on a point target, 800 M on area. You would consider yourself lucky to hit a man-sized Target at that range. There is no way you dropping three rounds of burst within 5 in. Not to mention there's only select tables where you actually fire your weapon in three round burst. (Can't remember the distance as we barely ever did it, but it couldn't have been more than 50 meters. Firing lines in the Marines are extremely controlled. There is no table that exists where you're shooting burst at 600 yards with an M16. Nor would such action be allowed by an RSO because it would be deemed to be unsafe. Three round burst or fully auto is a lot harder to control than it is in the video games. I'm not sure if you were in the military and did absolutely nothing and thus need to try and talk yourself up..... Or perhaps you've never been in the military and thus are trying to claim that you have based off of some internet research you've done. But if you are claiming to have served and have not, especially claiming to have served as a Devil..... Shame on you. I'm actually an 0311. @@napalmstickylikeglue well if you trained with the m16A2, you would know the fire select lever. We were issued the weapons right before our west pac float, from kbay. We had to clean the weapons that came from Colt factory, re trained to shoot the weapon with even lengthening the range to 600 yds, and were issued a hotter round for increased range accuracy's. There were a few of us that were given the opportunity to try out for scout sniper shooting the M40A1 . I was selected and given the opportunity to qualify with the weapon thru three months of extensive trsining. You need to think about what you are stating. Just because you do not have the ability to shoot a 247 on the rifle range, does mean you are not a Marine! I could shoot with our sniper rifle a 8" paper plate, and shoot a happy face within half the diameter of the plate, at a thousand yards day it night! It's just extensive training and given the tools to use, to accomplish the mission!
