I’m with you Jase that they should have gone for a scene inside Mt Doom. Now, it is a great statue, visually stunning and for me meets the MC ‘criteria’ (albeit preferred a different scene), but it will obviously come with a hefty price tag and I’m not sure if I like it enough to pick it up. We’ll see…. Now, the Fountain Guard with the White Tree is a different story. Not sure I agree with a lot of other collectors stating this should have been the MC (not enough there for me to meet the criteria of an MC), but it’s definitely a Premium statue that will probably sell well, although I expect the price to be north of $1,000. This one I will definitely need to pick up. The Black Gate is an easy pass for me right now. It’s basically a mini environment, not much bigger than SSW Helm’s Deep. I might pick this up if it ever goes on sale and I have room for it.

Love you collection!!!! My wife and I were so close to going to SDCC this year, but we had to cancel last minute.
I'm with you on this one Jason. The MC piece just didn't do anything for me. The White tree with the guard blew my mind though! Definitely interested in that one.
Yes mate - it’s the piece in this vid! Salvation at Mt. Doom is the 20th Anniversary RotK MC piece… (now sold out on Weta - but available from select distributors). 👍🏻
I loved “Salvation” the detail and the composition with Frodo & Sam utterly exhausted but at peace facing their end as brothers with Gandalf swooping in on Gwahir is perfect for me. HOWEVER. I am totally with you it is not an MC. It is beautiful but it lacks the WOW. Fountain Guard and One Tree has the WOW. Salvation should have been a surprise release later in the year like they did with Smaug and that would have been so cool and much better understood and received by fans. I would have much preferred that they portrayed Frodo & Gollum in their climatic fight for control of the Ring with Sam despairing in the background on the bridge of Sammath Naur. I hope they still bring such a piece one day. However I suspect they have missed the boat on this.
Hey there - I like your analogy of the scene there, and when put that way, it does make their decision to use this scene a little more easy to understand… however, for me… it’s still very underwhelming as an MC piece, and simply doesn’t ‘fit’ with the previous two?… And the White Tree reveal for me, was the reveal of the entire SDCC event from Weta - superb looking piece! Cheers matey 👍🏻
Very enjoyable as ever - however, I couldn't disagree more on the MC! :D This one is the first MC I am actually tempted to consider...it is brilliant and exactly what I was hoping they'd do for ROTK. My only nit-pick is the way the eagle attaches to the rock...I was hoping they'd do it slightly less obvious but in the grand scheme of things, it's not a problem. The sculpt, the paint application, the LED lighting effect, the detail - it is just sublime. The in-person videos that have come up reveal its true majesty - somehow the website shots fail to convey that. Completely agree on The White Tree and Fountain Guard - it is perfect and it is a must have. It came out of the blue and now I need to figure out where I'd be able to put it, but my God is it beautiful! Easily one of the best Weta pieces ever - it tells a story and the composition is perfect. Overall, a great SDCC!
Yeah there was always going to be people who disagree with me (I genuinely thought there’d be a lot more??)… But for me, this MC piece falls vastly short of the previous two… I don’t even get the sense of ‘movement’ from it?… Sorry… it just looks somewhat drab to me… But… I’m not getting it so who cares?… 😁
Yeah you said it, they skipped ahead. I think someone came up with the idea, they thought it was super cool and impressive and wanted to try it right away instead of giving it time, doing one or two more scenes before this one. Also, for me, Weta is 1:6 scale, that's it, period. Never buying anything else in terms of scale unless we're talking environment or a creature like the Balrog. It's a very well executed piece nonetheless but an easy pass. The only thing I'm definitely getting from everything they have shown is the super tiny Barad-dûr because I don't wanted to spend the money on the big one aftermarket, and it looks pretty damn good for the price lol. Kinda disappointed we didn't get a Witch-king, they're really taking their sweet time with this one
Hey matey - great to get your opinions on the reveals here matey! Yeah, that Barad-dûr I think is sound! And I’ve heard a few say they were hoping for a WK reveal!… Cheers matey 👍🏻
I have never bought anything from Weta but have been waiting to order whether a masters collection or something else. I almost bought the Sauron from the 2021 reveal which i regret not getting. However when i saw the eagle, i thought "thats cool". However, its not doing much for me. I dont know if i want to spend my money on a giant sculpted bird.
Hey there matey… yeah! I get you totally on this! It’s just a lot of ‘big brown bird’ and not a great deal else?… and remember… one day, LED’s will fail (I always think that about the pieces I have with LED features!…) It’s each to their own here, of course, but for me… this latest MC reveal was a disappointment… Cheers matey 👍🏻
Always wanted a Gandalf on Gwaihir, had the mini, but that was just too small. I don't care as much about the scale when it wouldn't be viable for 1/6. I have all the other MC pieces and they are not the same scale anyway. I wouldn't purchase a Sam carrying Frodo MC, but the inside of the mountain would have been a good choice, but this is really the "end" of the journey, so I am fine with it.
Yeah… I did think more people would disagree with my opinion here? But it seems a few are not happy with Wetas decision here to go for this scene? That said, obviously there will be many who, like yourself, are happy with it! Which, of course, is great! Always great when collectors get something they desire! 😁👍🏻
@@user-hx4br8to3q True… but I feel it’s highly unlikely they’ll do another diorama set at virtually the exact same ‘time’ as an MC piece they’ve already done mate?…

My main issue is that it isn’t in the same scale as the other MC pieces. I understand why, of course. But that’s the big one. It also just seems like it is a great sculpture of an eagle, and that’s kind of it. It’s a great sculpt, but the concept just doesn’t do it for me. I still just wish that the witch king had gotten a reveal 😂
Hey there matey… yes, quite a few have said the same, insomuch they wanted to see a WK reveal!… I’m sure he will come soon enough, but disappointing when you don’t get to see that which you’d hoped to?… 👍🏻
In my opinion most of the reveals were disappointing.. I was waiting for the 1/6th Witchking and that didn’t happen 😕 as for the rest- I’m excited about the Black Gate as well as the mini Treebeard. Wish the White Tree was a stand alone piece tbh cause I have no interest in the guard 🙈 I get why he’s there obviously but I don’t want to spend money on that character
Hey there - yeah, I’m really liking that Black Gate piece, nice compact size with a reasonable price tag… I’d forgot about the rumoured WK reveal?… Yeah, would’ve been good to have seen that!.. 👍🏻
Really hope we'll get a Witch-king this year still... Yeah the tree is cool but I'm never buying any kind of guard, they're just canon fodder in those movies, zero emotional attachment to any kind of soldier in LOTR haha
So just to be clear. A stoic guard standing next to a nearly dead tree = amazing. The culmination of the entire story, a gigantic eagle of Manwe carrying an Istari over a lava flow to save our chief heroes = boring? That is certainly an opinion. You were brutally honest. I was brutally honest back. Salvation at Mount Doom is truly the best of Weta Workshop. Not just in the technical and artistic sense but in reverence for the story and the emotional resonance of the scene.
And that’s the key thing, it’s an OPINION! And this was mine!… And of course, people are perfectly free to disagree, as you have! Now… after having seen Ryan’s unboxing video… my opinion on this piece has changed! I do now think it looks superb! A true masterpiece by Weta! I think when I did this video I was just disappointed by the scale and that it didn’t seem quite a fitting final piece, given the previous two?… And to add to this, if I were still keeping/collecting the smaller scale pieces, I think I would certainly have ordered this?… (if I were not also more in favour of the villains!)… Anyway… thank you for your input on this & I always welcome peoples opinions, as long as they’re polite, considered & intelligent!… Which yours pretty much was!… 👍🏻
@@hauntofthecollector it is your opinion. And while I don't agree with it. I do respect that you are entitled to it. Though it sounds like it has changed somewhat and that makes me happy to hear. Not because it aligns with mine, but because it is truly a magnificent piece and hearing that people love it, or people who maybe didn't at first come around just means the work is being appreciated which I think Weta certainly deserves. Also I should mention. I didn't mean to knock the white tree statue. It is stunning in its own way. I just don't feel any emotional resonance with it because it's not such a critical part of the story. But the detail on the armor and the tree both are impeccable. Thanks for sharing your opinion and for the dialogue. I think it's truly great that everyone who is a fan of Tolkien's amazing world can find a little piece of it they love and can hold thanks to Weta Workshop. Cheers.
@@EruIlúvatar1 indeed, I have always said (& always will, most likely?), that Weta ARE LotR, when it come to statues & collectibles! They’ve made some incredible pieces, and whereas they’re not without their flaws, they do have that something special about them? I think also that it’s my draw to the darker nature of Tolkiens story (& other stories), that also pulls my opinion, especially when discussing the lighter topics or pieces? I’ve just always found the darker characters more intriguing, interesting and maybe even ‘real’(?) to the whiter than white, heroes? It’s why I felt Boromir was such a good character, as as great as he was, he was clearly flawed! And I just love his final scene of redemption & his final line ‘my brother, my captain, my king!’… I’m not an overly emotional person, but that bit gets me every time!
@@hauntofthecollector So I very much like the hopeful theme and messaging of the story. Lord of the Rings has gotten me through some pretty dark times in my life. Like Samwise's speech about some good in this world and it's worth fighting for (especially for a cynic like me) gets me every time. Though where we have found the most common ground is with boromir. He is my favorite character and I have his sword and the Horn of Gondor hung pretty prominently among the collection. Boromir is all of us. I absolutely hate it when people give him crap. Tolkien himself has said it is impossible to resist the corruption of the ring. People always seem to forget that even Frodo succumbed. We are all susceptible to temptation and folly. We all screw up every single day. His character was extremely honorable. And his redemption noble. And I don't think I could add anything more to your very well stated opinion about Weta Workshop being the very essence of Lord of the Rings. Anyone that has poured through the hours of behind the scenes documentaries knows that to be true. The love they smeared all over this project in itself is inspiring.
I only moved from the No to Maybe column, but with the space this piece requires I could fit several other more stunning pieces. I suspect the price will push me back to the No column.

Wish the White Tree was a stand alone piece tbh cause I have no interest in the guard 🙈 I get why he’s there obviously but I don’t want to spend money on that character
Hey there - yeah, I’m really liking that Black Gate piece, nice compact size with a reasonable price tag…
I’d forgot about the rumoured WK reveal?… Yeah, would’ve been good to have seen that!.. 👍🏻
Really hope we'll get a Witch-king this year still... Yeah the tree is cool but I'm never buying any kind of guard, they're just canon fodder in those movies, zero emotional attachment to any kind of soldier in LOTR haha
@@Siile_ I can register that sentiment! And you may have just helped me pass on this piece!?.. Sweet one matey! 😁👍🏻
@@Siile_ haha I’m with you on that one 😁
it looks great but I'm not a fan of the mc prices, not worth 2x( prob 3x for this piece ) the price of prime1sauron :D
Aye mate… I’m guessing this will have another hefty price tag attached to it?… I think the guesses of around $2.5 - $3K may not be far off the mark?
I think when I did this video I was just disappointed by the scale and that it didn’t seem quite a fitting final piece, given the previous two?…
And to add to this, if I were still keeping/collecting the smaller scale pieces, I think I would certainly have ordered this?… (if I were not also more in favour of the villains!)…
Anyway… thank you for your input on this & I always welcome peoples opinions, as long as they’re polite, considered & intelligent!…
Which yours pretty much was!… 👍🏻
@@hauntofthecollector it is your opinion.
And I just love his final scene of redemption & his final line ‘my brother, my captain, my king!’…
I’m not an overly emotional person, but that bit gets me every time!
Hey mate… yeah, huge amount of display space required… & not sure yet what it’s going to do damage wise to those wallets that want to add this??… 👍🏻
