As a BMW purist, fanatic and fundamentalist, I can only see one M powered car and a turbocharged one series. The true essence of M is in the cracking NA engine and not a bolt on turbo. I can understand that the game have moved on to turbocharge and I am not knocking it down but not for me. The same reason why people wear automatic watches over Quartz is all about the craftsmanship. I digress, but there is no basis for comparison if one follow certain trajectory of excess speed and bhp but that is not what a real sport car is about. I have to go now so I can pay attention as you drive the clown shoes. From an E86 M driver across the pound. Thanks for sharing!
Somehow I stumbled on this video 7 months late! I just got a '99 M Coupe. You have made some great car investment choices with the 1M and S54 M Coupe!! Both amazing options.
To video creator... We builded 6300 + cars between 2011-2012 in Germany Leipzig of the BMW 1 M Coupé. You said there was only an amount of 700. Don't know where u get this information but I was building the whole series and worked from 2010-2013 at the BMW factory and I can tell you there where ordered more then 7000 cars but we stopped after 63XX (don't know the exact number today) EDIT: Search for it (may u mean only the US market but there where nearly 1000 cars not 700) and the whole world production was Alpine White: 2385 Valencia Orange: 2316 Black Sapphire: 1634
Glenn, thanks for shining the love light on the Z3M Coupe. I'd love to have the 1M, too. Ultimately, it's the E86 Z4m that really sets my barn on fire. I'll check your video archives for that one. What can you share about the EAG, since you mentioned it? I know. Google is my friend. :) Well...keep 'em flyin' and keep 'em coming!
Agree about the tune. I had a 135i and did tune, intercooler and intake. It was hard to use the power on the street. The rear tires couldn’t put the power down anyway. (Tires are narrower vs the 1M.) If I did it again I’d leave the power stock and put money into to suspension and lighter wheels. Fwiw I was just learning about cars and I hated my 135i after driving a BRZ. I’m sure the 1M is a different animal but my 1er felt like a muscle car, not a sports car. For daily driving I think the turbo is even faster than the difference in 0-60 would suggest. The N54 will pull in any gear and any rpm above like 2700 iirc. I could pass anyone in 6th gear. The S54 is all the top-which is its own kind of fun since you have to work for the power.
Glenn what do you think of the 99 2.8 BMW Z3 coupe clown shoe? There is one for sale in my town for $15,000 and it’s got 119,000 miles on it. Would are they crazy to consider buying this car? Thanks for your input I value it. Great channel!
Not sure, I haven't driven one. I would still check the subframe and any problems associated with the 2.8. They are over 20 years old so stuff wears out and there will always be a "To do list" but it could be a fun car for not much money and you won't see another one.
I had a Z4Mcoupe and Z3MCoupe. I now still have the 2000 Z3MCoupe. TheZ3MCoupe early S54 also has main bearing problems and valve adjustments. The S52 will go 200kmiles with proper maintenance.
I have a couple of Z3s and live by the Smokies; and I wouldn't drive them into town. They're ideal on twisty two lane mountain roads, plenty of power for those roads. I like the sound of the 2.8 and 3.0 better than the tinny sound of the 3.2. Of course, the M roadsters are the better investment, but I like to drive mine with the top down; not garage them for collector value. My 330cic with cold air intake sounds the best to me.
Z3 M Coupe is the one for me and more collectable in the future.. Get the OEM alloys ASAP, they will change the drive, more responsive down low and far more confortable without loosing sportiness.. Great test :)
Z3M Coupe. It’s development story alone puts it in an interesting place in automotive history. Rather than being a steroid injected version of a standard car, from the ‘b’ pillar back it’s a completely different car. It’s way cooler too, I do hope you have the original ‘Roadstar’ rims.
M coupe is also alowered a lot. Annoying to hear you bring up the stiff ride all the time when that's a modification. Overall good video. I'd love to have both, but for now I'll be biased an have my Z3M
I just bought 1999 M roadster 58k miles OG I love it B8 struts H&R springs upgraded rear front sway bars 225 front 265 rear handles amazing
Congrats ! great choice

Normally aspirated cars only for me with rear drive and manual transmission. Don’t like turbo’s.

Thank you for your comment. I was talking about US production. Thank you.
I have a 1m and an a z3m as well but unfortunately I don't have an s54 in my z3. Good taste.
Thank you, you have good taste as well.

EAG seems to sell good cars but at very high prices. I have never driven a Z4M but i would love to. thanks for watching and subscribing to my channel
Hey bro which short shifter and knob is that ?
Whalen
@@GlennsCarCollection you have the link where to buy the short shifter ?

yeah you have to rev it out (S54) to access the power, but that is where the fun is

Which did you like better, Z4M or Z3M ?
The Z3MCoupe has more low end torque, for ever day. The Z4MCoupe, for me , was a better on the road course and not every day.
great vid enjoyed thanks miss my 2012 128i special ordered white with red interior
Sweet color combo. thanks for watching
There is a big chance that I builded your 2012 car in Leipzig Germany
@@FlorianFiernow Awesome! I loved that car, wish I still had it!
Great comparison, hard to choose
you really can't go wrong with either
34hockeyplayer
Hard to choose?? Psss, I’ll choose both. Too easy!!
About time you teased me about this video 37 years ago
yeah, took forever to edit

Thank you, great comment. Yes stock wheels are hard to find how. thanks for watching and subscribing to my channel, more Z3M Coupe videos to come
Didn’t the z3m shoot up and then fall back down recently ?
yes but I believe it will rise again in the future. it is still a rare and desirable car.
Glenns Car Collection that’s what happens when hype moves the market instead of demand

Great comment. I agree
1981: BMW M1
1991: BMW E30 M3
2001: BMW Z3 M Coupe
2011: BMW 1M Coupe
2021: BMW ???
Great choices
2021: BMW Mi4
Shueb Chowdhury Maybe M2CS. I think because of everything that’s goong on, BMW will have to sell the F87 M2CS as a 2021 model as well.
2021 Alpina B7

There is something about the coupe Z3M that wows me, but I don’t think I would ever own one.
its a looker for sure. thanks for watching and subscribing to my channel
Really wish you had a z4m too though
Me too
Z3 M Coupe needs a shorter rear diff, 6 speed gear box, and CSL airbox.
i have shorter gears in mine
Choose a bumpier road
Like comparing zidane to Frankie de jong
should just sell them both & buy sting ray 6 speed
E46 M3 is so much better looking than that ugly duckling Z3M that only has one thing going for it and it’s the s54 engine.
