That Bob called for the clock be reset because the contestant did not realize he said: "Go!" at the beginning. Because Bob knew, the contestants were the reason that home viewers identified with "putting themselves in the contestants place" and if you wanted to be successful in this game, you had to have the viewers and contestants feel as if they were always given a fair chance to win. (unlike carnivals, gambling and marriage...)
This game actually lets the player have a slight advantage. they give the contestants the price tags as the host explains the rules of the game,. when they should give the player the price tags he reads the rules since that gives the player time to put the tags in order in their hands before the clock starts. i am not sure if others caught that but i always did.

When they were released, they were a big deal. Not everyone could afford them. They were in fact pricey. Same with DVD players when they came out, they were expensive! It took me 3 Christmas’s before I finally got one, cost my husband 200. By then they had dropped in price a little bit. My parents got their first microwave on credit, cost them 600 because they had it installed into the wall, came with extras and a cookbook too. My mom would call all her friends and brag about it to everyone😂

This was between the time that Johnny Olson passed away and Rod Roddy becoming the permanent announcer. The Dawson era of Family Feud ended in 1985, and Gene Wood was the show's announcer when Ray Combs hosted between 1988 and 1994.
Gene worked on a lot of game shows for Goodson-Todman Productions, and they were in a situation where they weren’t sure if Johnny was going to recover from his brain bleed (cerebral hemorrhage), some people do recover (I know many people who have recovered) and some pass on (unfortunately Johnny passed on at age 75), so they needed someone to fill in in the meantime. Rod was also working on Press Your Luck at the time of the auditions, so he was known to many game show fans.

Gene worked on a lot of game shows for Goodson-Todman Productions, and they were in a situation where they weren’t sure if Johnny was going to recover from his brain bleed (cerebral hemorrhage), some people do recover (I know many people who have recovered) and some pass on (unfortunately Johnny passed on at age 75), so they needed someone to fill in in the meantime. Rod was also working on Press Your Luck at the time of the auditions, so he was known to many game show fans.
