This was the 9th season of TPIR at the time when this episode aired in October of 1980. I turned 2 years old 9 days after this episode aired on CBS daytime.
Holy Toledo, what was with the budget on this episode? That boat almost could have been at the end of the Road, and then the prizes for those second and third games? This is Bob and the show at their finest. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. No idea when your grandmother passed, but she seems like a lovely person. My condolences.
TR47 Today, people make complete fools on this show like they’ve never been anywhere. Back in the 90’s you have a lot of college kids that acted crazy and now you see more older people acting foolish.
@@a.b.s_productions Someone that went to the casting call said that they look for people with those personalities that act like that on today's TPIR. Otherwise you won't get selected.
@@Rlotpir1972 That's more because BUZZR is woke and seems to want to ban anything that doesn't follow the narrative, given they're now dropping more and more Match Game episodes.
I think the makers used to pay for the full descriptions and probably still do on the rare chances we get to hear the full sales pitch now. Otherwise, "it's a 10 ounce can of tuna".
My sympathies to you Andy.... you know, in a way we kind of share a connection of some sorts with this episode.... this program aired some 4 days before my grandfather had passed away as well... I guess at that time I was 5 but did used to watch TPIR a LOT while growing up too...
The price of the Chrysler New Yorker is $13,630. The same car appeared on the show about a month before this show aired, and the description of the car this time around was exactly the same, so I would strongly assume everything is likewise.
Sorry to hear about your grandmother, she seemed like a warm, loving person; I'm curious though, did she go on all of those trips that she won? She must have told you some stories about her appearance on the show.
I greatly enjoyed watching this episode. It was also a nice red-letter date as it became the day after our beloved Philadelphia Phillies won the World Series.
There was an era when contestants get so happy that they would jump on the host, I noticed that they don’t don’t allow that anymore. I think it was the early 2000s
Hi Andy! I won the showcase on "The Price is Right" show #3921D, aired December 22, 1980 (it was a Christmas show). This was really before people had VCR's, so I never was able to get a copy. Is there anyway you know of to get a copy of this show?
Was it just me or did anybody hear that in the audio I wound it back… when the Japanese contestant was first called… I distinctly heard somebody say “Ah So!” That was kind of messed up. It was muffled and sounded like somebody tried to remove it from the audio track But it was there
24:37 Sell it lady, give it to a charity... why does he care? lol. Bob "You're going to get the heck off my stage is what you're going to do" well... thats' how i read it anyway lol.
First known $1 bid on the current incarnation of the show happened on a Dennis James nighttime episode in 1976. The practice itself dates from the Cullen version, but it seems nobody remembered it for several years.

You guys are jerks! Respect the man and respect his right to believe that animal lives matter and that killing innocent animals just to make fucking clothes out of their skins is cruel and evil! If he wants to ban episodes with fur coats that's his right
I bet Bob Barker doesnt like watching these old shows that gave away fur coats as prizes. i dont know what year he became an animal activist, but i highly doubt it was 1980
Bob Barker actually banned fur coats on the show starting with the second week of Season 11 and he became an animal rights activist following the death of Dorothy in early 1982.
Look at those hair styles. What a glorious time.

I was born Feb. 1, 1973 a year after it all began with Bob.
I sat there in front of the black & white t.v. for years watching with my mom and siblings guessing the prices; oh what memories!!
3:10 Now that's RARE to see a boat as the 2nd prize on Golden Road.
AND it was $8695. High for a second prize in the Golden Road. Too bad she lost.

The contestants were so much calmer back then
Probably because people then had something called dignity, and didn't want to act like buffoons on national TV.

Looking the the episode from 10/31/1980. My Mom was on it.
That too might have been a fur episode, so your episode is unavailable.
Wow Marjorie did great this episode and it was a pleasure to watch
That first contestant came up on stage before Bob was even introduced!
You are correct on the airdate, I checked it against the game lineup. Production number on this show is #3833D.
Just remember that once the Range Finder has been stopped, it can’t be started again for 37 Hours.
This was broadcast 6 days after I was born. I know it is insignificant to others, but I wanted to see an episode from around the time I was born.
Scout Moser Those were the good old days 😊
If it features a fur coat as a prize, you won't see it until Bob Barker dies, if at all.
oh how exciting it is to play Golden road!!
Bless Marjorie.... She seems like an absolute sweetheart!!
Sorry to hear about the passing of your Grandma!
Kevin Chau Cue losing horns for that.
I noticed they didn't have what I call the pepperoni spots near the Showcase Showdown's wheel.
Is that the same Pat O'Brien who would become a sportscaster for CBS Sports in 1981?
Yes, it is. The voice stands out.
yep that's him.
Sure wish Buzzr would get these shows!
They won't show this episode. At least so long as Bob Barker is still alive. The second pricing game should be explanation enough.

Those robot lamps are so cool I wanted to see if I could buy one now they're all selling for thousands of dollars now. Collector's item I guess
She won that FUR COAT by about $13
Fur coat + Bob Barker = Internal triggerdness
Huh, I didn't know Florence Henderson started WESSON in 1980.
14:40; That went right into "Young and Restless".
Post lots of more episodes from the seventies and eighties of TPIR soon, okay?
This is the only one in my collection (because, you know, family.)

According to Barker, this episode never existed because of 7:52, and also because of one of the models.
Then again, he may have it in his will that fur coat episodes can never air again, even after his death.
