    Walt didn't get cut out. Just has a victim complex. He was intimidated by her wealthy family (pride/ego issues) and abruptly broke up with her, then sold Elliot his share of the company. They don't go any deeper than that in the show but have talked about it in interviews. A guy with Walt's talent wouldn't have wound up in a dead end job unless he was constantly burning bridges.

    • @diddyknux
      @diddyknux 5 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      Its also possible that his ego is so big that even when he was working with them, he wasn't as huge a chunk of the brains behind the research as he makes himself out to be. I'm sure he did contribute a lot, but he acts like the entirety of their success is on his back, and that's likely not the case.

    I don't think its ever explicitly stated in the show, but the show creators confirmed that Walt sold his share of the company to them for a small amount of money after breaking up with Gretchen due to his ego and insecurity about her coming from a wealthy family. It is also heavily implied that the success of the company is mostly based on his research.

      If I remember well, Walter explains he seriously needed cash, and that at the time, 5000$ was an incredible sum of money to him. What sucks is that he'd have become a millionaire had he stayed. And apparently, Elliot and Gretchen never thought "Oh wow, our friend must be really depressed to see that he missed on on so much money". They suck because OBVIOUSLY, anyone in Walter's position would be full of regret for life, and they seem perfectly fine with that. It doesn't bother them. Gretchen acts here like she never saw things that way. Come the fuck on.
      To make the matter worse, Walter says here that they got rich thanks to his work, and considering he is a genius when it comes to chemistry, chances are it's really what happened.
      I'm not a Heisenberg fan that excuses all of his actions, but I'm 100% with him when it comes to his hatred of Elliot and Gretchen.

    Jesse's connection to that kid has significance to his childhood. Jesse was brought up in a well to do middle class family with educated parents, he had every ample opportunity to be successful and wealthy by educating himself especially the moral support of his parents, but due to his bad associations and bad habits he started focusing less on school and became addicted to drugs. When Jesse sees the kid for him it's promotes self reflection, regret and guilt. He sees how differently this kid would have been if he was also given the same opportunity as him. He also sees quiet vividly, what the consequence is for the kid if his parents are drug addicts. In a later season when he sees Andrea wanting to do ice, he quickly becomes repulsed by it and accuses her of being a bad mother. Where as when Jane wants to do drugs with him he is nearly not serious or repulsed although, she was on a recovery program to quit drugs. This scene really sets the bar for where he draws the line in terms of drug use. The scene is also testament for how deep Jesse's heart is, although that kid makes him feel tremendously guilty and regretful about his life(because of the opportunity he had versus what the kid has), he acts so kindly and compassionately to him. He still feels empathy for him, and is willing to make him feel good.

    Apparently Vince had a backstory for Walt and Gretchen that he never included in the show. Walt and Gretchen were dating when he visited her wealthy family and felt intimidated and isolated by their wealth compared to his humble beginnings. The Grey Matter situation is entirely Walt's fault. I don't get how you can defend him on that. He intentionally left Gretchen and the company, became angry and bitter because they did not share the money from their success (not Walt's success, theirs) but then refused their money when they offered to just give it to him. All three are purely because of his ego and pride. The company was struggling when he was co-leading it and instantly became successful when he left, that just proves what we see during the whole series, Walt might be one of the greatest chemist of all time but hes just a really awful businessman.

      @giantWario 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@elsotanodelhorror810 Yeah literally the only person who's ever said that was Walt. And we all know he's an incredibly honest person with no ego problem right?
      All we know for a fact is that Grey Matter was an unsuccessful, broke company when Walt was there and that he had so little hope that the company would ever go somewhere that he took a buy out. Then, once it was only Elliot and Gretchen leading the company and doing the research, it became incredibly famous and profitable. Sure as fuck doesn't sound like Walt was anywhere near as important as he thinks he is, as usual.

      And I ain't saying his research was shit. But it sure as fuck wasn't anywhere near as important as Walt think it is. They didn't build and grow a business for 20 years from the research of a guy who was with them for 1 year while they were still studying! And once again, they had no problem with giving him money anyway, Walt was just too prideful to accept it. So basically, he's mad at them because HE left them of his own free will and then refused their money of his own free will. Oh yeah, that sure sounds like they're the one who wronged him.

    Walter bailing out of Gray Matter plays out to his transformation a lot more than people think because how he increasingly cannot let go of his meth business to not make the same mistake again. He still refers to GM a bunch of times in the series and you can tell he thinks about it often. It's the first major catalyst for him, maybe just as big as the cancer diagnosis did.

    Its pretty clear that Walt couldn't handle Gretchen's family being so rich and he either just stopped caring about their relationship or simply broke up with her. Then he couldn't handle being in business with her after that so he asked for a buyout to leave the very new company and i'm sure he didn't contribute much to or been in long since his buyout was just five thousand. So Gretchen and Elliot did nothing wrong in my eyes. Walt is just a very insecure person and that's his problem not theirs.

    • @samminghampalace95
      @samminghampalace95 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yep, wasn't his fault that Walt made meth that directly destroyed the life of vulnerable thousands, wasn't his fault that he had to manipulate Jesse back into a life of crime (through poisoning a kid) when he was pretty much out, not his fault when he continued to make meth even though he already had enough money to last several lifetimes, not his fault that he was "forced" into a number of dangerous situations that endangered himself and the people around him which seems to be the natural consequence of manufacturing meth, and definitely definitely not his fault that he could have avoided all of this if he had taken grey matters money. I suppose being a cool and badass character is all one needs to justify all manner of horrifying actions. Trivial things like ethics and swallowing ones pride are for pansies.

    • @Chesterix
      @Chesterix 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Samuel Woo, the only two mistakes you mentioned were refusing Grey matter money and continuing to cook even after he could have gone out.
      Making meth was a result of him needing money for cancer treatment and for his family, he didn't get Jesse back into cooking, money brought greedy ass Jesse back into cooking, and you forget that Jesse would have been dead many times if it wasn't for Walt's selfless concern towards him. Brock poisoning was Jesse's fault for being an ungrateful rat and not cooperating to kill Gus. I'm not saying Walt is perfect but in my opinion he is much better than the ungrateful rat Jesse and even that hypocrite bitch Skyler.

    Watching this made me realise something I've never picked up on, or seen people comment on, the "Little rich girl, just adding to your millions" line.
    If they were broke college students come up with these theories and inventions... sometimes it takes time for these to be picked up and start making money. I think Gretchen and Eliot had money, they could live off parents/savings and bide their time, and Walter couldn't. He had to walk away, sold his share for what it was worth at the time and took the only job paying for a chemist that isn't research: Teaching.
    Thats why he resents them so much, because they let him leave when they could have supported him then, isntead of buying him out because they knew he was broke and needed the money.
    Always thought Walter was a shit for not taking the money but this... kinda changes things for me a bit.

Look at the girl you're with: She's beautiful, she's intelligent, has a great personality, and (best of all) she's well deep into the geek culture. Do you know many of us out there are lucky enough to have a girl that has one of those traits and completely lack the other ones? Not too many of us, I reckon. Plus you get to do these videos with good friends out there. Yeah, maybe most people with an iPhone can make YT vids, but you guys really do a great job with post production on here, and show that you all have fun.
