that song, and that concert was being aired by swedish TV, I saw it, and the announcer said that there was a bluegrass festival in august in a small town called Gränna. I and two other friends went, and we have beeing going ever since. Y'all come. hope it runs in 2021. (Corona restrictions) plenty of parking lot picking. nice folks.
This song reminds me of my first visit to Tennessee, when I was a kid in 1967. Being a city kid from Chicago, that trip had a huge influence on me! It's also the first time I ever heard this song!
Mr Bobby is a living treasure and I am only sorry that I did not appreciate years ago. Thank you for this video of one of my favorite songs about one of my favorite places in the usa
The Smoky Mtns...MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PLACE IN THE WORLD. My wife & I try to go at least a couple times a year...ESPECIALLY IN THE FALL!!! Much love from Mobile Alabama.
I love it! Bobby is the more likely to sing or play a line from a different song_ then sing on like it belonged there. Sonny hears it and gives his soft laugh. They are the greatest
Growing up in the mid-70's, the Osborne Brothers were a huge influence in learning to pick bluegrass... Clean, Classy, Great Harmony - and years ahead of their time. So what a joy it was, after all these years to see Bobby still doing his thing, strong as ever, in Palatka, Florida last year - Nice stuff!
Sonny was just playing with the people there. He went into playing a song called Reuben. It just fit into what he was playing so he just put it in there.
This song makes me want to live in the Smokies. One I truely love Bluegrass music and playing it on my Fiddle, Guitar, mandolin, harmonica and banjo. I believe I saw both of them back in Dec 1977. Best Wishes LittleCountryDJ
Smokey Mountain Smoke...What a beautiful simple sentiment...And from the Osborne Bro's...We have got ourselves on FINE "dilly of a pickle" Now Haven'y we ??
63 and just got into bluegrass a few years ago. Somehow missed the Osborne brothers when I was trying to know the top artists. Obviously I missed them..
@Bigmrclean--back in the day Bobby's voice was the "desired" timbre and pitch for this good old buegrass music. Now it kind of sounds out of place but in the old days Bobby's voice fit perfectly. Peace out from the foothills of the Smokey's...
Sadly, theres not a lot of Nashville left in Nashville it is an industry town with very little heart, but you can still catch good bluegrass at the Station Inn.
I'm guessing the reason they were laughing was because he sang, "If you're lookin' for a place sure to lose: Smoky Mountain, Cherokee". A casino had just opened in Cherokee a few years before and apparently one (or more) of them lost some money there.
I wonder if that little bit of Reuben was planned or just came out... It seemed like it was a surprise to the bass picker... At any rate they pulled if off well.
oh dear Mary. Germany has plenty of bluegrass. spec in the american occupazion zone, and anywhere else, also in the former DDR, wher bluegrass was seen as the music of the working class, and therefore good. German bluegrass bands are known for tact, tune and tonality, right out of uncle Bills playbook.
@bigmrclean This sounds like someone who knows very little about the Osborne Brothers. Just look at Bobby while he is singing--no straining, red-in-the-face or bulging veins in his neck--it just comes out easily and naturally. Many others strain to imitate him, but not Bobby. By the way, he is STILL singing on the opry almost every weekend at the age of 79!!
@1954hiker Who and what are you talking about? Next time actually pay attention to who you're posting toward. I've not said a word bad about bobby. I met him last year and talk to him on facebook pretty often. I know Bobby is still singing. Rocky top express put's on a great show.
Seems like sometime bobby is trying to sing 2 octaves above his capability. Wonder if he's tryin to sound like bill monroe? I like him and all...just noticed this on a lot of stuff.
Sorry you didn't like the crowd. They acted like a Swedish crowd always did in the 70's on a TV session. If they were there, they liked bluegrass and also knew Reuben. PS. Sweden is not a part of Germany. Is Louisiana a part of Texas? Tack plunky123. Har du mer? Har hittat dina + en till. Hade denna på ett gammalt kasettband, som bara gnisslar nuförtiden/Lady Miriam
Never will be another bluegrass group as good as Osborne Brothers!
the right fabulous Paul Brewster on guitar & "low" harmony......who on the planet was going to sing above Bobby?
No idea that was Paul Brewster.. you made my day

Much love from Mobile Alabama.
Sonny had such a smooth roll in that banjo!!
The Osborne Brothers were every ounce of GREAT.
It is great the way they kept playing right on beat when Sonny started playing Reuben on the break. Awesome
I love it! Bobby is the more likely to sing or play a line from a different song_ then sing on like it belonged there. Sonny hears it and gives his soft laugh. They are the greatest
Ye boy us older people really appreciate the stagemanship of the bluegrass stalwarts of the past. What class act and nice people they were.
The two brothers looks at each other during the solo is fantastic.
Growing up in the mid-70's, the Osborne Brothers were a huge influence in learning to pick bluegrass...
Clean, Classy, Great Harmony - and years ahead of their time. So what a joy it was, after all these years to see Bobby still doing his thing, strong as ever, in Palatka, Florida last year -
Nice stuff!
I'm so glad I found these guys...albeit a bit late
It sure got in mine been there twice from my hone in England.
R.I.P. Bobby!
Sonny was just playing with the people there. He went into playing a song called Reuben. It just fit into what he was playing so he just put it in there.
They are one of the best. Thanks for posting. Great music !!!
They really had a good time on stage and off...and thats what its all about
Magnificent bluegrass in the world, God bless the bluegrass boys, I love Jimmy Brown the News Boy very much,
all I think about is my special place in the Smokies, never forget it and will get there again soon
Let the lovely rappers get a shot of this then they can truly know what good and talent really is!
This song makes me want to live in the Smokies. One I truely love Bluegrass music and playing it on my Fiddle, Guitar, mandolin, harmonica and banjo. I believe I saw both of them back in Dec 1977. Best Wishes LittleCountryDJ
What voice and harmonies. Not to speak of the pickin'. Empire Corporation America was on an upward trajectory at one point. Great stuff.
some of the finest music there ever was!!!!!!!!!!!
Quite right!
Smokey Mountain Smoke...What a beautiful simple sentiment...And from the Osborne Bro's...We have got ourselves on FINE "dilly of a pickle" Now Haven'y we ??
Smoke's got in my eyes at this masterpiece...…..
Neat way for Sonny to break into "Reuben", got them both smiling!
Sonny is great as usual I met the Osbornes at Rosine Ky in the county Iam from and they are two great people to meet.
63 and just got into bluegrass a few years ago. Somehow missed the Osborne brothers when I was trying to know the top artists. Obviously I missed them..
my favorite to play on banjo- right from the first time I heard it!
played by the best!!!!
Beautiful 🥲
You need to rethink about what you said about Sonny Osborne!!! He is the BEST there is!!
They got a sense of humor for sure! Too cool for words!
Classic Bluegrass, even with the electric bass.
Great tune
Great song..rj great band..bout 85..rk.
Forgot to comment on the brief " Reubens Train " banjo part. Thats why they were laughing..
@Bigmrclean--back in the day Bobby's voice was the "desired" timbre and pitch for this good old buegrass music. Now it kind of sounds out of place but in the old days Bobby's voice fit perfectly. Peace out from the foothills of the Smokey's...
God i miss my home in the Smokey Mountains
Awesome
Saw them a lot.jd Paul sonny and bob.
That was GREAT....... THANKS!!!! Ban-Joey
I love the Osborne Brothers Bluegrass Grass
The best!! End of discussion!!!
Sadly, theres not a lot of Nashville left in Nashville it is an industry town with very little heart, but you can still catch good bluegrass at the Station Inn.
lovely lovely lovely
love this so
much
I got smoke in my eyes!
I heard this song in the smokey mountains Tennessee
Great Osborne Brothers song.
Sonny doing a little reuben there.
I'm guessing the reason they were laughing was because he sang, "If you're lookin' for a place sure to lose: Smoky Mountain, Cherokee". A casino had just opened in Cherokee a few years before and apparently one (or more) of them lost some money there.
I love Bobby. They are real bluegrass
yeah lol....That's really cool...They had a good time on stage, thats what its all about
The best version of this song - should be the theme song of east Tennessee.
So true.
Love it.kiss
great tune, seems everbody likes to misspell smoky though and put E in there :p
I think it was because he was in Sweden and he was quoting "Keep your hand on that plow, hold on"
Bobby didnt expect the camera guy at the moment. it seemed he gave a smokey mountain wink to the cameraman.
That's some dang fine pickin and a singin
Bobby and sonny are the best. In my opinion in their prime they simply couldn't be topped. Not only the harmony but as you said the pickin
haha at least when he went into reuben he played it off to where im sure the crowd never knew
I wonder if that little bit of Reuben was planned or just came out... It seemed like it was a surprise to the bass picker... At any rate they pulled if off well.
Wondered that myself. Maybe it started cause they were tired and jet-lagged travelling to Sweden.
i want to move to nashville
He does look familiar that Paul Brewster.
@bigmrclean No offense hopefully....just taking up for my all-time favorite bluegrass group! Guess I took your comment the wrong way, sorry!
That,s my kind of music 5******.
Ta hell I say... You ain't been to Kennebec!
@phattskis I love ol bobby...in his younger you are right he could get her done.
@1954hiker Hey I love Bobby too brother!
There is no "E" in the Smoky Mountains :p
LOL never knew those were dudes singing this song :D anyway nice one
It's in E.
Did Bobby mess up the words when he looked around and laughed at the guitar player?
Yes, he was supposed to sing "if you're looking for a place you will LOVE...."
Sonny on the mandolin, Bobby on the banjo... who's that young fellow on guitar to Sonny's left?
Paul Brewster per the description
Especially since it was in Germany and they probably did not know the music that well!

According to the descrpition it's in Sweden.
@bigmrclean only in his younger years good Bill sound even close to ol Bob you might want to turn your hearing aid up pal!!!
@bigmrclean This sounds like someone who knows very little about the Osborne Brothers. If it ain't bluegrass music it ain't fit to lesson to
I'm betting the cameraman smoked a joint before going on stage.

He sounds good to me....lol
Sorry you didn't like the crowd. They acted like a Swedish crowd always did in the

Is Louisiana a part of Texas?

Sonny was one of the worst banjo players for sure! IMO !
