Perhaps something could be designed to use three strings so more than a simple melody can be played? A tritone “chord” can sound quite full. If the can could be suspended to allow longer notes and a dampening button added, wide range of timing could be played as well. I like it and it has me thinking also so good project! 👍

This gives a specific color to the comb filter, which cuts off lower harmonics. 3. You have made a musical instrument with normalized excitation at one point and marked the scale division of the full tone along the tuner. This is a device that has long been required for more accurate scale marking. If you compare it with classical markings, then you will have deviations towards greater accuracy of the chromatic series. Perhaps it would be productive to find a specific point of sound production that would give greater energy to the vibration of the first harmonic (fundamental tone) and a smooth decrease in the rest of the harmonic series. This is called a roll-off filter. This filter is present in all traditional musical instruments and matches the spectrogram of the human voice, but also prolongs sustain. 4. Actually, this is not a new tool. This device is called a monochord. The only new principle is electrical control. The ancient monochord was played with fingers.
just one suggestion to get the full tone from the can you should put rubber offsets to isolate the can from being dampened by full connection to the mounting wood.
Im gonna be honest, most people don't or can't get those unless you're willing to scrap a car's electromechanical locking mechanism. Motors are cheap, nearly universally salvageable and common enough for most people to understand.

It's got keys so it can't be guitar or banjo. And it plucks the string so what you have is a harpsichord. Remember to temper the tuning. And you have a new subscriber.

You could have used a Solenoid instead of that motor.
