I've had an iPad 4 since I was 8 (and I'm now 17) and it's been with me all my life. Whether for gaming, entertainment... and it still works! I downgraded it to iOS 8, because iOS 10 didn't really suit me. It's now Jailbreak by default, and I can sideload applications from my Mac. And for me it continues to be a very good tablet. Great video!
How hard is it to jailbreak? I've heard that iOS 6 is the version which runs the best on this device, but it's not practical because app support is zilch, and iOS 7/8 (8 especially) has issues with crashing/randomly restarting. Is there a jailbreak patch to fix the crashing? Or at least to fix the performance on iOS 10?
your videos are so amazing dude! and the fact that your underrated.. you spend alot of money making these videos and doing very good tests! i hope you get popular sometime.:)
I use this ipad as a home camera and for talking to the dog. Unfortunately, the app I'm using, Alfred camera, is telling me that they will soon stop supporting this iOS 10 version. From experimenting, I found out it means that I will only be able to see a thumbnail of the camera (such a stupid limitation...) after they stop supporting it. It's so stupid, it's a peer to peer connection it doesn't even go through their servers... Anyway, does anyone here know a good IP camera app that will never stop being supported?
03:00 it makes sense. Because that gen of devices had relatively poor power efficiency, Apple stuck a (relatively) large battery in it. A large battery will lose less absolute mAh over time
@@OleksiisTech no I know for sure, I was able to simulate an older version (ios 8) and when installed on iOS 8, if I view the camera from my android app it says that I need to update the app on that device when I press on camera view. I can only see the thumbnail which updates at like 1 FPS
Thank you for watching! Subscribe to this channel if you want to see more old but still usable and devices. I heard TH-cam doesn't like links in the description, so linking TH-cam fix guide here: th-cam.com/video/FsWPyZQ1voY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-KpcoBJ9M_RMfW4O Works not only for iPad 4.
id recommend spending a bit more and get an ipad air 1st gen, runs ios 12, 64bit device instead of 32bit and has a nicer display aswell as having way better app support without having to jailbreak
very true, I never updated my Mini 2 from iOS 8 and up but it was always a very performant device while being compact. Even better to get a Mini 4 though or just a fully supported Mini 5/ Air 3 if you can budget.@@OleksiisTech
Apple ruins these older devices. Don't get me wrong, Apple does pretty great with software support generally, but completely killing support for Safari and app downloads for older versions of software means that once Apple stops developing an OS, it's a very short time before it's unusable. Android however isn't dependent on Google's support. Once they give up, apps continue to work, sometimes for another 5-10 years, and slowly lose functionality. I'm just waiting on my iPad Air 2 to eventually become useless for all but niche use cases, and being stuck on vanilla iPadOS 15, it's sadly a matter of time. My grandma has this exact iPad 4. She got it just after my family bought our 3 (which lasted even less time) and she can barely do anything - even browsing the internet nowadays is a very mixed bag and for most things, barely works even on something as new as iOS 12 - which would be less of a problem if Apple decoupled Safari from OS updates like it works on macOS.
It’s ok for Apple not to support device which is 11 ears old, but the fact that their system is so closed that becomes useless and there is no way to install another is very sad. If only I could install something like Ubuntu touch..

What about watch? did you ever buy the Series 3 version? You should buy it at least..
Too expensive for this channel at the moment, may be in the future
I have an iPad 4th gen collecting dust right now. Thanks for this video! I'm now interested in potentially tinkering with it.
I want to tear it up and make a portable monitor of it)

It’s cute. Stop in support not always means it will stop working.

First))). Realy cool video, i see you like aple)
I can't say I am Apple's fan, but they were doing pretty great thing, until they started making laptops with 8gb ram for 1800 euro
i bought an ipad 4 16GB last year and it had 100% battery health
May be it’s has changed battery
When will the 6 minutes video be released?

Yes, same can be said about iPad Mini 2, same hardware with iPad Air and even lower resolution

For the price this device is great for reading novels and watching downloaded movies.
Especialy if your movies are 4:3
an older samsung tab is way better
Interesting, which model? And for how much?
I have checked, there are some interesting models, may be I will review them in the future if I will find some for good price. Thank you
Jailbreak is bad
