Having seen a hundred versions of this ballet over 50 years this is still the one I love most. It's nature and grace combined. Chaotic and flowing. A bit ugly and then sublime. Bravo.
Terrific! An entirely different aesthetic from the traditional Nutcracker. Witty, a bit chaotic as in nature, and interesting. Love the soft-serve ice cream hats, and the men en pointe.
This was and remains the most innovative and beautiful Nutcracker. I saw the Hard Nut at La Theatre Royal de la Monaie in Brussels with my mother in January 1991. She'd already been and insisted on taking me. Unforgettable.
5:00 gives me tingles every time. I remember when I saw this live, the audience erupted into applause at that moment, it was so utterly beautiful. Brings me to tears.
I was directed here from watching the Royal Ballets classical version of this piece and at first thought it was a "send up": But it is glorious: giving much different type of dancers (and men) an opportunity to dance to this superb Tchaikovsky music. My dancing days are long passed but this would have been a high point of my career if I'd had the opportunity.
The best snowflake dance of all the Nutcrackers! All of "The Hard Nut" is great (and funny), but this is actually beautiful to watch. The guys in tu tu's were a blast and just as graceful as the girls.
i love how these dancers look clumsy and not at all like dancers in one minute and in the next they launch into graceful jetes and show amazing techniques ... and to the guys on pointe , amazed
Loopy, exuberant, beautiful genius. :-) Been lucky enough to live near Berkeley, where MM brings the "Hard Nut" almost every year, and have seen it a number of times. I love how audiences often get so caught up in the goofy energy of this section that they even start cheering the explosions of snowflakes, like a fireworks show.
@windstorm1000 You do realize that the source material for this ballet is very dark and at times quite bleak. Very much like this wonderful production. If anything they are a lot closer to the original children's story.
Were so doing this for nutty butcracker this year!!! cheers! ( For those of you that dont know what that is, nutty buttcracker is a parody of the nutcracker that is company coreographed and done by the company the night before opening night just for shits and giggles.)
@skybreaker09 the source material was originally thrown out so the choreographer could make it lighter and fairy tale-ish...so your reasoning doesn't wash.
It’s brilliant in a theater…not sure it translates to screen very well. (PS: I’ve always wondered how they avoid inhaling those snowflakes or getting them in their eyes.)
how little you know about the Mark Morris company and the sexuality of his dancersliving the limited life maybe alleviates your fears, but get informed. you'll be much happier
that is part of the fun of this production. men dance with men, men dance with women, women dance with women, but sometimes one or both are playing men, the corps dances EVERTHING. snow has no sexual identity, hence . . .
I knew it was just a matter of time before the modernist directors would f---- with this classic. Looks like its under the freeway ramp (drab set!!)--well snow falls there too I suppose.choreography is weird too. keep the child in this classic please.
this is a brilliant version of the ballet (and uses ALL of the music, unlike other productions)if this set is drab, you must be colorblindwhat's a limited life like ? are you happy or just content with being bitter ?

I can't believe that there's someone out there who doesn't like this wonderful dancing.

This is so beautiful, it makes me cry. I wish I could be up there dancing with them!
this is the most brilliant re-imagining of some of the most gorgeous music ever. It makes me smile and cry - every time!
Had forgotten about this... My most favourite Snow of ALL time!

sorry, I missed the graceful part
Well for example look at their arms and fingers , thats good technique right there . Lets put it this way , they are making clumsy look polished
Oddly different at first, but loved it.
I love seeing this piece choreographed in so many ways.
I love the snowflakes.. they work beautifully with the music..
"Snow" doesn't get any better than this. Brilliant version.

We have no snow here but leave it to Mark Morris to bring it to us. BRAVO BRAVO....Joyeux Noel et Linksmu Kaledu.
@angelasweetdances I cry at the end of this every time. It's the mix of wonder and melancholy.
Best snow waltz ever hands down
I love the mark morris version its such a more modern twist to the nutcracker
Amazing choreography and splendid sound! ;)
masterpiece and miracle of staging
My mother said that The Hard Nut was voted BEST SNOW!
OMG - I've been looking for this for a long time!
I freaking love this version!
10 years and I still think this is the best snow flake scene

wow . i had never seen this before ... wow
perfect

Cool!

когда не тянем танцевать классику , пускаем пыль(снег) в глаза...
What is it they are throwing, obviously its glitter but mixed with what?
7 lbs confetti ea. performance
Which Dance Company is this?
MMDC Mark Morris Dance Company (Brooklyn, NY)
Can someone please tell me what kind of artificial snowflakes you use for this kind of dance?
Hi class!
problem?
Is this tracadara or however you spell it?
did anyone else notice some have black ponite shoes and some are barefoot
You can't dance en pointe in bare feet!
I love the gay dancers, but couldn't you have created more glamorous sets for them--the camp quality is especialy screaming out for this.
how little you know about the Mark Morris company and the sexuality of his dancersliving the limited life maybe alleviates your fears, but get informed. you'll be much happier
these are the most beautiful men i have ever seen! :D
Кто поставил танец? Кто придумывал костюмы? Чайковский Вам этого не простит :(
I just noticed this but....are those men?!?! O_o
that is part of the fun of this production. men dance with men, men dance with women, women dance with women, but sometimes one or both are playing men, the corps dances EVERTHING. snow has no sexual identity, hence . . .
@@richardaven6638 It isn't just THIS production. Morris doesn't recognize gender roles.
Hate to be the person who has to clean that up (-_-)

не снег , а фильм ужасов
I dont know if I should take this seriously or not...
Why dudes?!
Why not?
What a travesty of a work. Tchaikovsky and Petipa must be rolling in their graves. Thank God they didn't live to see this tragedy.
Tchaikovsky didn't even like the Nutcracker, the ballet, the story, or his own music, you ignoramus.
yeah, well they're dead. NEXT
were some of these snowflakes men???
i love gays 8D
what the heck men in tutus??
WTF! men in tutus
