- Anyone who's danced can relate to these hilarious moments in The Concert (or, The Perils of Everybody). This movement is fondly called the "Mistake Waltz".
Choreographed in 1956, this Jerome Robbins' ballet is a comic spoof of a classical music concert.
FAQ

I think that this is one of the better mistake waltzes because they actually try to save it and it looks more realistic

im pretty sure the mistakes were part of the dance? like it was intended
@@cch444. yeah I was just saying that after they made the mistake they would almost try and save it.
@@annas.9560 ooh, i see! sorry, i read your comment wrong
This is based off a comedy pice.... called (The Concert). This parody dance routine is performed by ballerinas at the Vienna State Opera in Austria. The routine is called ‘When Ballet Goes Wrong” Choreographed by Jerome Robbins.
See I’m just sitting here impressed one of the dancers is wearing glasses. I’ve never seen that before.
Its part of the dance
Dana Molina yea my dance teacher always said u wear contacts or u dance blind
@@cola7260 same here, I use glasses and I always take them off
Cola same 😂
Cola oof-
Dancing with mistakes on purpose like that is actually harder than dancing in sync
PrincipalCellist amen cause if you forgot one part you just look at your peripheral vision and copy even though you practice that at one point your dancing is automatic
These "mistakes on purpose" are just the choreographed dance, if that's hard for you to do then you need to practice harder
@@user-uh3qj2tb4z it’s less of memory and it’s more of i imagine that it would be easier to fall out of beat because it’s automatic after a certain point
@@maydayjanette226 yeahhh how you're explaining just makes you seem like a shitty dancer. Wow,,, can't do your own choreography, you know not every group dance has you in sync 100% of the time? I understand if you learned the og dance first tho
would it? cuz a mistake clearly noticeable by the audience will automatically be thought that it is a part of the act
If you make a real mistake, yea sure the audience won’t notice but.....
Your dance teacher will
Yes
Amy huynh yesss I would probably get hit with a pointe shoe
I’m already shaking from anxiety 💀
*No....*
*NOT KAREN!!*
If they throw you their pointe shoes you better start running, they sure hit harder than a slipper
You can tell these dancers are really talented, even their mistakes look good.
You know it's part of the choreography right?
@@dutchik5107 yes of course, I just find it funny that they make what it's suppose to look like a mistake look amazing anyways XD
@@charlenef3308 unlike most of us, we can't do mistakes ELEGANTLY 😂😂
It takes skills to make it perfect.
But it takes more to fail perfectly.
@@drake4217 well Hmmmmm, hmmmmmmmm I guess so, but it takes more to not fail on failing perfectly

LMAOOOO, my favorite comment
LoL
Love it
I have no brain cells on a test
Test are easy
Who else loves the sound of the pointe shoes all hitting the ground at the same time
I do! I think it fits the piece because you aren't supposed to make noise with your shoes in ballet but this *is* the Mistake Waltz so I wonder if it was on purpose
@@Caroline28483 Yea, I also noticed that in normal pieces they don't make any noise.. I wonder how, since the tip of the shoe is so hard? But me being a very noise sensitive person I find the "clack" very satisfying lol
tap tap tap tap squeak
Mee!!,but all of our ballet teachers yell at us for purposely making the noise 😂
Mariana Oliveira meee
One of them: **makes a mistake**
The others: ohno, girls we have to improvise. We cant let her embarrass herself.
2:11
More like : "darn it, gladys! Not again!"
The best thing about this is that they had to practice those mistakes.
I did a similar choreography (with lots of mistakes) in the 2000s in my ballet class and we had so much fun!! It was probably the funniest choreography I ever did in ballet and it was so unnatural to learn, but we had a blast!
Everyone saying this would be easier.. It's actually harder to purposely make the mistake then to accidentally make it...
Well the mistakes are choreographed they know what mistakes they are gonna make
Its easier because if you make a real mistake nobody will notice
H D you have to make it obvious that it’s deliberate
Scarlett g 2005 Exactly. By using a combination of facial expressions, you can cause the audience to believe that it was on purpose and by making the mistake obvious so that they know.
*than. Oh I see what you’re doing now.
The thing with this dance is that you have to exegerrate some of the mistakes so that the audience can tell the mistakes are done on purpose
I feel like it should be opposite of that
Try the vienna theater one. It really cute and funny. They have mastered the art of mistake. So graceful, yet kinda roll with the punches. I laugh the entire dance.
omg name twins
Inez Louisa :/ so no mistakes are real tbh its all planed
Inez Louisa it kills me b/c that’s ME xD
I don't think people realise how much work is involved in making this dance look like its full of "mistakes".

G And G L • unless the mistake you made is to do things in line
Yes, but your instructors and choreographers know how it is meant to be. :)
The dance is right, the coreographers put that in the dance
Sorry if my english is bad
It is part of the dance
Yea
No one:
Girl on the top left at 3:00 : *no one will notice my mistake*
this dance becomes even more amazing when you realize that it's harder to choreograph mistakes as a ballerina. like it's literally ingrained into you that you have to be perfect 100% of the time, so for most ballerina's a dance that's literally full of mistakes is extremely difficult to catch onto.
It's like Meryl Streep learned to sing badly in Florence Foster Jenkins.
The mistakes aren’t in the technique, just the choreography. So to the individual dancer, her part has no mistakes.
Yes, that's true. There is also what she sees around her. Concentration on her own part, not distraction to "correct" is hard, though. @@aprilhollingsworth1520
A dance where you’re actually supposed to mess up? I’ve found my calling.
Yes ! 😂
I swear I can’t go a show without messing up 😂🤦♀️
NO💀
The floor is mine, I’m ready to fall on it
I'd manage to mess up the mess
When like, 5 other people miss the last class before the recital and the choreographer changed EVERYTHING.
oooooooooo gosh
I hate when that happens
That‘s the worst. 😩
That happened to me last year and it was TRAUMATISING
YES OMG a couple years ago I had to miss like 5 classes in a row because of family stuff, and my teacher just kept saying "just catch on." I didn't know half the dance when recital came... 😶😳
Edit: I am now almost a professional dancer!! Things are going good 👍
What impresses me most is that with all the planned mistakes, this has to be a ballet with six unique, specialized roles.
Every member ends up with a different muscle memory and I'd imagine that every part needs their own backup if the prime dancer falls ill or something.
"They got us in the first half not even gonna lie."

That slooooow arm at the end ALWAYS gets me!!

Happened to a friend of mine for real and during an exam! 😂😂😂 we were all in croise right foot devant in 5th position and she was in croise LEFT foot devant! She did that same slow movement to change her direction, the examiner saw and kinda giggled 😂😂😂
*maybe if I move my arms slowly no one will notice...*
Yes off course we cant see but if there re mpre people than tht
The little glances the dancers give each other really elevate this piece.

When you realize that we expect more from a single failure than all the other dancers' successes... and that should apply for life.
Can we just appreciate how beautiful they can dance. Its amazing
The slow arm change at the end always gets me😂😂 also I wonder if any of them have ever accidentally done it right haha??😂
I am wondering that too.
Probably not because it’s choreographed to be wrong so this is the correct way
Куда заводит?
*Legend has it that this dance was invented because of a certain group of dancers who missed a lot of practices. They did this in the performance and everyone loved it*

This is so hilarious. And the best part is, if they actually make a mistake the audience cant tell 😂
which part ?
ohgoshnaliya ! What?
ohgoshnaliya ! I just meant that this is such a cool dance because they’re messing up on purpose which makes it so that if they did actually mess up/ not do what they practiced then the audience wouldn’t be able to tell
Except for people who have seen it before
The audience can tell as Pretty much everyone knows this dance. Lmao.
Imagine how long it took for them to perfect their 'mistakes'.
I can only imagine the giggles when they all simply started to rehearse this piece, so entertaining!
I found the perfect dance for me. This is pretty much how I dance anyways.
Blah it’s still really good tho
The funny thing is since ballet moves need to be super clean an polished, they probably practiced the mistakes a lot til they looked perfectly out of place at the right time and right spot with the right move.

I love how they perfectly choreographed a piece about what happens when choreography is perfected 😂
When the person you copy makes a mistake, but everyone was copying them *I speak from experience*
wow the pianist is phenomenal i don’t think they’re credited enough 😂😂😂😂
Despite the comedy, they're actually really good dancers!
duh it's pacific northwest ballet. and their intentional mistakes in the choreography wouldn't take away their technique.
Susannah Dudash Of course, it’s one of the premier ballet companies in the US.
The thing I love about this.
Is the anticipation, because while yes the audience catches on early the gag of it,
But their able to use that anticipation to keep their eyes peeled for when the next gaff will be.
And it’s never quite where you’d expect or from who you’d expect.
There’s the obvious person usually out of line, but by a certain point it’s also the people reacting to the one out of line, and everyone else reacting to them in an endless cascade.
What I love about the video is the sound of his shoes on the ground, makes my heart feel happy.

Its cool that you know two languages though! I can speak a very small bit of French but not much. Only a few phrases and words.
I took a ballet course at my community college over and over again during my time there. There was always the most amazing mix of girls. Some who have danced for years and just needed a PE credit, those who had never danced in their life, and everywhere in between. It was so much fun. Everyone always was so good about mistakes and always trying their best. It looked nearly identical to this.

"Blooper" choreography can sometimes be harder than the more serious stuff.
I really like comedic ballet dances. In my experience, lots of ppl don't like ballet cuz they view it as boring and pompous (I struggle to watch a full ballet in one sitting as well lol). But turn it into a comedy and suddenly ballet is a lot more easier for your average person to appreciate.
