The Sleepy Hollow set looks so realistic. The layers of mist and forbidding grey sky really create an uneasy atmospheric backdrop to the film. A great example of cast, crew and sets coming together to create something memorable.
Yes! I think the set pieces for the town are pretty similar to the original Washington Irving story with the farmland and the covered bridge and stuff(don't remember if there was a church in the original story though), other then the constant greyness and mist set the tone, but also how when like, you knew the horseman was coming or had come how the sky was changed to black clouds and thunder and lightning and how the music was risen and dramatic, it's all the little details that perfected and made this movie incredible
This is actually one of my favorite Tim Burton movies! I love to watch it around Halloween. I really liked Depp's portrayal of Crane and am honestly glad they turned down doing the prosthetic makeup on him as I think it would have been more distracting tbh. Plus I like the idea of having a really handsome dashing Crane but his characters personality was opposite as he wasn't the typical heroic type but instead a gentle person with interesting quirks.
I do really enjoy this film and I'm not gonna lie, the absolute eye candy that is Depp in 1790s clothes with messy 1990s hair is a fairly big part of it. I'm not proud, but it's the truth.

Critics tend to pan enjoyable movies far too often, yet I usually find their reviews to be worthless. This is such a great Halloween movie and it is so enjoyable to watch over and over. Christopher Walken with those horrendous teeth may not say a word but he is absolutely terrifying‼️
I love the way the movie looks and feels It is beautiful to me I've seen it probably 50 times 'Corpse Bride' is beautiful to look at as well The patina of both of these movies is lovely
@Bejamin Parker I did, it was at a convention in South Australia. Even got a photo with her too. I haven't seen Lizzie Borden yet but I do want to give it a look.
I was always impressed with Ray's fight scenes. Wielding an axe and a long sword at the same time? That is not easy, and he makes it look effortless and amazing.
Sleepy Hollow is one of my favorites due to the oddball quirkiness of the whole movie. I love Chris Walken, I think he's terrifying as the Headless Horseman.
Christopher Lee was another STAR WARS alumni in this film. It's cool to see actors who played Emperor Palpatine and two of his apprentices, Darth Maul and Darth Tyranus together in a non STAR WARS film.
I love "odd connections" like this. On the whole, the Sleepy Hollow cast is the cast of "Star Wars prequels" meets the cast of "Harry Potter" with a little "Pirates of the Caribbean." Also interesting to note is that Christopher Lee played Dracula and was hunted down by Abraham Van Helsing, played by Peter Cushing, a.k.a. Grand Moff Tarkin. The actors had also co-starred in "Frankenstein," with Cushing as Dr. Frankenstein and Lee as the monster.
My friend and I knew immediately Ray Park was the stuntman behind the Headless Horseman, even before we heard it was indeed him, based on his sword handling techniques.
I really enjoy this movie. Even today. Had well placed humor, the right amount of suspense and thrills, and well told characters. Have to watch it again.
The action figures were amazing because they were made by McFarlane Toys. This was around the same time that they were putting out their amazing Spawn line. The sculpts on their action figures was incredible! The Sleepy Hollow figures were released more as collectibles than kids' toys.

This is my essential Halloween movie and while it doesn't stick to the short story, it feels like a fanart mixture of what would happen if Edgar Poe re-imagined The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I knew it! I could feel him channeling Rathbone from the very first outing in 'Hound of the Baskervilles'! That role would oddly go on to be given to Peter Cushing in the Hammer films production of the same episode which saw Christopher Lee as the heir to Baskerville!!!
@Hugh Jassel That's because the Horseman's blade instantly cauterized the wounds as his sword was heated by the flames of hell. Ichabod found this out when examining the corpse of young Masbeth's father.
It is one of my favorite Burton Films. For Halloween this year, I introduced it to my daughters for the first time. They are 11 and 13. They laughed every time Icabod passed out. "Again!", they cried in unison. This is the best Elfman soundtrack, and I have all of the figures MIB. Including The Headless Horseman riding Thunder!
You forgotten that in The Dead Zone Johnny Smith (Christopher Walken) tells the his class to read Sleep Hollow which 16 years later Walken starred in Sleepy Hollow.
I remember when I watched that scene in The Dead Zone which Walken pulls a smirk when he says Headless Demon. It is as he was hinting he was going to be playing "The Headless Demon". I still think Stallone missed a trick of including Walken and Tom Berenger in The Expendable film as they both starred in The Dogs of War which they played soldier's which a character said "they are expendable". Most of the main actor in The Expendables have started in film that I used the word they are expendable
Micheal Cormier I absolutely love the Sleepy Hollow movie. The Disney animated movie is okay, it’s scary me as a kid. It’s good in its own way. To me it’s purpose is if people wanted see an adaptation more accurate to the novel. The Disney cartoon movie from 1949 is the to see
Definitely one of my favorite Halloween time movies. The movie in fact inspired me to go take a trip to Sleepy Hollow in Tarrytown, New York at Halloween time. One of the best trips I've ever taken. The Hudson River Valley communities do a great job at Halloween. I highly recommend going and I highly recommend watching this movie.
One of my favs! I watch this film, and still get more out of it each time! Burton either makes great films or sub-par films, usually nothing in between. This is one of his great ones!
The action figures were part of a lineup of famous classic other horror action figures lineup called the Movie Maniacs series designed by legendary comic book artist Todd McFarlane the creator of Spawn. The series of toys included horror icons such as Jason Freddy Krueger Michael Myers Chucky Candyman The Crow Etc.
Yeah, you can see the logo on the package, so the comment in the video about "toys being marketed for an R rated movie" doesn't really make sense, as McFarlane toys are usually collectors figures and not like, $6 whatever cartoon is popular now action figures.
...this was Johhny Depp at his finest! This was an awesome movie for depp and burton! Wish we had more like these! The Johnny depp figure was something I bought and still have!
Thanks Minty. I really love this film and rewatch it every few years. I think I will schedule that rewatch for tonight, with my daughter and wife. My daughter hasn’t seen it so it should be a treat.

Odd Fact: Even though it has been known as Sleepy Hollow for hundreds of years, when it officially incorporated, it took the name North Tarrytown. Despite being internationally famous, it kept this stupid name based on nearby unfamous Tarrytown until 1996. Just 3 years before this movie was released. In 1996 it finally officially became Sleepy Hollow.
I used to live near Sleepy Hollow and have been there for work and relaxation many times. In October there is a huge, elaborate display of Jack O’Lanterns at one of the old 17th Century manor homes. It’s also where Major Andre was captured with the plans acquired from Benedict Arnold. Washington Irving wanted to give his small home its own unique legend, and wound up making it world famous.
@smilebackifyourugly I love the scene where it looks like Christopher Lee has wings while he's giving his orders to Constable Crane from high up on his bench
I love this movie. Absolutely one of my all time favorites. Growing up near the actual Sleepy Hollow and being a fan of the story Burton did a great job of bringing it to the screen with a modern adjustment as well as a cinematic vision to it (a book to movie template like hunger games or potter wouldn't have worked for The Legend). My only complaint is to this day is the travel by the river scene. Its on the wrong side 😑.
I love this flick. It has the perfect atmosphere, and I find it's a great way to kick off spooky movie season. The Action Figure Line was done by McFarlane Toys, and wasn't necessarily meant for kids. The line fit in more with the Movie Maniacs line McFarlane had at the time, which was marketed more toward adult collectors. I still have my Ichabod figure and it's pretty great. Awesome likeness of Depp and a ton of accessories. The downside is they don't have much articulation. I remember it was the first thing I purchased from this new site at the time called Amazon. Wonder whatever happened to them... Never could find the horseman, in either form. Great vid, as always, Minty! Until the next one...
Thank you, Minty, for hitting the nail right on the head (even more than usual, it is) in your chronicling of this all but weakness-free masterpiece of a movie.
I just love the way Minty exits every time he ends his video reviews as he says "See Yah!" then stoops down from his chair and tries to stay out of sight just before the camera cuts to the credits. Such a unique trademark of his Show. He should patent it as " The Minty Exit" or " Pulling off a Minty" Lol!👍😄
FYI: Towards the end of the 90's, certain "toy" companies began designing high quality action figures, marketed at adult collectors. Companies like "McFarlane Toys," who created figures for the "Spawn" comic series, "Metal Gear Solid" video game, and others, as well as the manufacturing company, "Moore Action Collectibles," who designed figures for the comic series "Witchblade" and "Fathom." Some of the packaging even states "Recommended for mature collectors."
Yes but these were not marketed towards children. They were sold thru comic books stores and sun coast video for collectors. Toysrus had a collector section of pop culture toys but I never saw TV comercials or ads in catalogs that marketed childrens toys showing these. Mcfarlane toys had a tendency to break when out of their boxes, so much so that I purposely kept my ichabod and ash from evil dead in the box. I also have all the witchblade figures, buffy and danger girl, and kept them nib
@@BeautyKhaleesi , you are correct about the more explicit toys being sold only at comic and other specialty stores. The McFarlane toys were generally more acceptable due to the fact that most of the figures were depicting dark superheroes and monsters, things already deemed acceptable by Toys R Us and their customers. The Witchblade and other such figures were seen as too overly sexual and overly physically detailed (as compared to Barbie). I worked for Toys R Us for 3 years at the end of the 90's. Bought a lot of great figures during my time there, but still had to go elsewhere to get the "mature collectors" figures. ;-)
I adore this movie! It's the best of their collaboration in my humble opinion. The effects and visuals are just as stunning today as it was when it came out. The cinematography was also stunning. See it if you haven't!

Omg, minty really IS my friend! I am a HUGE Tim Burton fan, thanks minty 💞😁😎
Hey girl...I literally just commented like the same thing to him lol ✌😉 ♡Tim Burton moviez
@@magicvampirelver1321 Tim Burton fan club right here girl, 😁✋
Thank you, Minty, for hitting the nail right on the head (even more than usual, it is) in your chronicling of this all but weakness-free masterpiece of a movie.
Nice one, Minty.
And Dark Shadows was hilarious. Though it did turn off older fans since the TV series was a gothic drama.
Thank you. I'm not the only one who likes that movie. I'm kind of new to the old tv show.

Dark Shadows was awesome. Great soundtrack too.
Dark shadows was ass
I love this movie. It’s beautifully shot and I watch it at least four times a year. Love it 💗
This was my first R rated film, and i consider it a masterpiece.
Haha! it was the first R rated film I allowed my daughter to watch
Loved the film. Had the horseman figure. Never thought of them as toys more display pieces.
I love all Tim's movies, an Jhonny is always good! Sleepy hollow is one of my favourites! 👍👍love it!
Bought a lot of great figures during my time there, but still had to go elsewhere to get the "mature collectors" figures. ;-)
Just saying in the video he seems puzzled these would be sold to kids. But in america they weren't the target audience. Also super tiny pieces inside!
This film is great fun, full of dark charm with the perfect Hammer Film feel .
his most underrated movie? to me it's is best movie...
DrAudioBot Underrated means it’s better than the praise it’s received. Meaning it’s better than his other more lauded movies.
@@ElimGarakSpoonHead No, it doesn't mean it's better than others. It just means it is deserving of more praise than it's received.
I adore this movie! It's the best of their collaboration in my humble opinion. The effects and visuals are just as stunning today as it was when it came out. The cinematography was also stunning. See it if you haven't!
I love this film, nice one minty. ⭐✌️⭐
Sleepy Hollow is my all time favourite Tim Burton movie! As you said it’s the Burton method at its best! ☺️ it perfect!! ❤️🏴
