Truly an excellent documentary. The in depth coverage of these three islamic gunpowder empires was truly spot on. Its is somewhat difficult to find documentaries on the Safavids on the Internet as the material left behind is more scarce compared to the ottomans and mughals, so it was refreshing to see a documentary that covers all 3 in good detail. Well done!

This video was a fascinating overview of the three gunpowder empires of the early modern world: the Ottoman Empire, Safavid Iran, and Mughal India.
I was particularly interested in learning about the Ottoman Empire's use of the Janissary corps, a professional standing army that played a key role in the empire's expansion. I also found the discussion of the Safavid Empire's religious policies and the Mughal Empire's cultural achievements to be very informative.

@@MadeInHistory “The American missionary Eli Smith and G. H. O. Dwight, who traveled through turkey at the beginning of the nineteenth century observed that the turkomans were generally called Turks by the Ottomans, who abhorred the name Turk and proffered to be called Musalmans (Muslims). To the Ottomans, “turk” was a name that belonged to the people of Turkestan and the nomadic hordes who roamed the steppes of khurrusan. They considered themselves civilized Ottomans, and could not understand why Europeans called them Turks. As a sophisticated ruling class, the Ottomans looked down upon the Turkish peasantry, calling them esek Turk (Donkey Turk), and kaba turk (stupid turk). Expressions like “turk-head” and “turk-person” were contemptuously used by ottomans when they wanted to denigrate each other.”

It's a shame that Muslims have seemingly peaked (militarily, technologically, economically and culturally) in the 17th century. The only way to recover now is to join the Space Race and carve out colonies on other planets, or else we'll stay behind.

Mughal for economy? What was their economic policy? What were their innovations? Did they promote education, innovation and entrepreneurship? India was the largest economy purely because of its size of the geography & population, and Europe was only starting to industrialize at that time. Mughals, if anything, were a disaster for the Indian economy.

I think this video skipped a pretty significant event in Ottoman history. Mehmed II's reign wasn't as seamless as him fighting Hunyadi and then conquering Constantinople. He had 2 reigns, the first where he was only a child and Hunyadi and the Christians went to fight him, causing him to give the throne back to his father. And then, when his father died, he reclaimed the throne at an older age (only 19 though, but still) and went to conquer Constantiople.
Also, a more in depth overview of the Sultanate of Women and the various overthrows in the early 17th century would help with the context of Ottoman stagnation.

Some people's racsim (I included in this is being disrespectful etc towards other faiths be it Christianity, Islam or whatever), nationalism and patriotism is disgusting.
We should learn history to understand the past; learn lessons for the future and to better understand the present plus we can take pride in anything good our people did/accomplished in the past.
But we should not let the past make us so full of pride or anger towards otherd that we become racist (I included in this is being disrespectful etc towards other faiths be it Christianity, Islam or whatever) and/or nationalist and/or patriotic in a bad way.
Every nation and faith has a past full of glory, golden times and excellent achievements. However every nation and faith has times in the past when they commit regretful actions, acted immoral, fell behind other nations and made huge military, economic or political errors.
So no people or faith is above this thus there is no need to abuse, mock or attack others nations, faiths or cultures in comparison to your own faith, nation or culture based on historical facts.
Number 1 lesson from history we are greatest when we put are differences aside and work together for a better future.

Thank you for your good video. I say this to those who believe that Afshar Safavi and Qajar are Turks
First of all, there are archival sources, including the book, that during the time of Shah Abbas, Persian was declared as the official and middle language, and Shah Ismail chose the names of his children from the Shahnameh, like his successor (Shah Tahmasb). ).
And except for those paintings written in Farsi next to Shah Safavi, owner of Iran and many other documents....
Those tourists who come to this land, all bring the name of Iran, even in the letters that were exchanged between Safavid or Afshar and Ottoman kings, the king of Iran named Khosrow or Dariush Zaman is mentioned.
There are many documents about Qajar. For example, the National Bank of Iran, the National Council of Iran, all of these were built in the Qajar period, or the Khaqan literary association by order of Fath Ali Shah or the next king of Iran, Reza Shah, from the Pahlavi dynasty, had the highest military and political position in the Qajar period. Or the recorded voice of Muzaffaruddin Shah speaking in Farsi and mentioning the name of Iran. And the travel letters of Muzaffar al-Din Shah and Naser al-Din Shah, which are all Persian, and the name of Iran appears in them many times. Or in the contracts written with foreign countries, the name of Iran is written in it and nothing else
Apart from that, all the important cities or capitals of these dynasties are in today's Iran and not outside the borders of today's Iran.
Do not forget that most of the present-day countries of the Middle East belonged to Iran for a long time and were separated from Iran during the Qajar period.
    (part of Iran's civilization basin)
The agreements that caused the separation of large areas from Iran during the Qajar era include: Golestan, Turkmenchai, Akhal Paris and... And don't forget that these periods that we say are the peak of the growth of Persian culture and literature in history, Persian language was the official language in India and Iran at that time.
And in the Ottoman Empire, Persian is the language of the courtiers.
(The language of poetry at this time is Persian)
There are many cultural exchanges between Ottoman Iran and India. For example, take a look at the buildings built in Gorkani, India, such as the Taj Mahal, which was built by Iranian architects.

Nader never conquered India. He just raided Delhi in 1739 CE and went back. Also he was Turk not Persian. Another fact Marathas had already raided Delhi in 1737 CE and virtually made Mughals their vassals. So the Mughals held no real power in 1739 CE when Nader attacked
