    As a regular follower, I've noticed how generous you are promoting and complimenting other vloggers and different venues whether you're associated with them or not. I appreciate that. On another note, my last jumpsuit was in the 80s and it belongs in the past forever. For me, anyway.

      Thanks Jaime, I always want to help others where I can. I never wore them in the past and should have kept it that way but at least now I know for sure eh! X

    Your hack into the top worked out for you quite nicely. I have never made a jumpsuit. I don't think it would work for me but I love them and did wear them back in the 70's and probably even in the 80's (I cannot remember exactly but I know I had some). I want to made some jeggins so that is what is on my radar at the moment. Good to see you Claire - you are always a delight to watch.

    I always love your vlog posts. I am sorry you didn’t feel good about the jumpsuit... but, the top is amazing! I can see the look on your face wearing the top is so much more confident and happy than the jumpsuit. Great tips! Thank you!!

    I love your hack to this pattern. I have made 2 jumpsuits/rompers so far this summer and have plans for at least 2 more. I'm a size 22/24 so I understand the concern about not drawing attention to the tummy. But I decided this summer I was going to live in rompers. I just wanted one piece to put on and go. That way I can play with my son and not worry about my goodies being shown to the world. lol.

    Great review Claire and I'm so glad that you got your lovely top out of it 💝....love the fabric too 👌. I'm not sure that I would make a jumpsuit, but I love seeing others in their's 👍. Megan looked good in hers didn't she 😁. I'm wondering if you used a much drapier fabric, that you might prefer the look... especially if you tapered the legs in. It's quite a boxy style isn't it. Loving the collaborations and would love to see more of these...thanks so much Claire 😁💝😘

    • @sallydingle321
      @sallydingle321 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, I just thought of something...couldn't you make trousers to go with your top in the same fabric and it would look like a jumpsuit but be really easy to wear 😉😘

    • @Penguinandpear
      @Penguinandpear  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Sslly, yes Megan looks amazing in hers! It may possibly work in s Draper fabric but I'd worry it would cling... when I was editing and putting the pics up of me in the toile I thought perhaps I've been too hasty, if I enlarged the front crotch and tapered the legs it might work... perhaps I'll revisit it! I have thought about making the trousers too, that might work... but I have the posy pants to make this week! Wish me luck! X

    Thank you Claire. I also have a tummy but would like to make a jumpsuit. I ha e one that I wear that is store bought that actually looks good on me. It has a yoke front and back with gathers above the bust. Yoke is sweetheart at bottom but straight across at top. The legs are quite flowy. I love it except the bathroom problem. I’m going to replace the bra straps that hold it up with wider button straps so it slides off easier. I get compliments with it all the time. It’s in the wash right now or I’d take a pic to show you. I love love your top and choice of fabric!

    • @Penguinandpear
      @Penguinandpear  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lynne, I would agree if you have arthritis perhaps not a wise choice, though saying that I made it two sizes smaller than they suggest for my measurements so it may be okay if you made in the right size as they have a lot of ease. Thanks for watching x

  • @georgianasstudio
    @georgianasstudio 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have two suggestions for you. I have similar feelings about jumpsuits as you but the Abi jumpsuit is very flattering because of the cut and being in stretch fabric. Also, you could make a faux jumpsuit so you can get the top and bottoms fitting as you'd like but still ending up with the look.

    • @Penguinandpear
      @Penguinandpear  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Georgiana, I think the problem is I have an apron tummy and any knit fabric in that area would show it up unless super loose. Nateida from Natural Dane recently made the Abi up so I did get an idea as we have similar body types. Thanks for the suggestion though, I really appreciate it. A faux jump suit is def something I am considering! x

  • @janspenno2241
    @janspenno2241 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was really really Interesting . I had not seen this video and I made mine up yesterday. I decided to make bottoms 2 sizes up from the top as I read they were interchangeable and I’m a bit of a pear shape. Having made it, I would go 2 sized down on The bottoms !!!
    Initially I thought the top was too small; it fitted however, but the front was shorter than the back as it was for you, and I don’t have a large bust. Interesting. There is too much fabric in the trousers. I set about asking a few people on Instagram whether they downsized and it appears a lot did, between 2 and three sizes blended. My fabric was stretch cotton sateen and it emphasised the pleats too. So, I wonder what it would be like in a more drapey fabric downsized. I can’t say that I feel like cutting into my linen yet but I would like to try another. It could be that it is not for me either but I love it on other people. I also have the Abi Jumpsuit and I’m tempted to go ahead and make it. It has cleaner lines. We will see

    • @Penguinandpear
      @Penguinandpear  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for this Jan, very interesting. I think if I made the jumpsuit again I would stay 2 sizes smaller but make the crotch seam what it should be for my measurements. I would def use in a more drapey fabric though. You could turn the pleat into a dart, that might make it less obvious. Good luck if you make the Abi, I'll be interested to hear how you get along x

  • @joanneblair2087
    @joanneblair2087 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The bathroom issue is why I have never made a jumpsuit in a long time, but I am thinking it would be great as I love maxi dresses for the summer and these might do,for winter as a change for pants.

    • @Penguinandpear
      @Penguinandpear  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What about a faux jump suit - you could make them as top and bottoms in the same fabric to look like a jump suit with the ease for going to the bathroom! Ooh yes, go for it - the fit is very good (if a bit too much ease). x

  • @nataliaryng8134
    @nataliaryng8134 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi. I loved your review. I think a different fabric choice would’ve helped, something more drapes. That being said there are also the pattern adjustments that need to be made. The pants, it looks like tho outer seam is too long. If you took maybe an inch off the outer seam and tapered to 0 at the inner seam do a horizontal dart across the thigh area. I think that may help straighten the leg. I would fix the circumference of the upper arm too. . Does the pattern have a bust dart? I think some tweaks on the pattern for fitting and using a fabric with maybe at least 50% rayon to make it more drapey and it would make you happy. I certainly would encourage you to not give up. You already know what changes need to be made why not make them. That’s what sewing and fit is all about-and I think you would look great in a proper fitting jumpsuit. I’m super plus size and have a stable but flowy knit jumpsuit that looks pretty good. I just bought this pattern and will be looking for the changes I need to make especially the legs. Good luck.

    • @Penguinandpear
      @Penguinandpear  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Natalia. I think rather than too much length in the side seam, the seat of the pants needed to be extended, had I done this the pants would sit more evenly. You are right a drapier fabric would have been much better. I think I had in my head that a playsuit wasnt for me so I didnt put the effort in to make those changes. A knit jumpsuit seems much more appealing.

      Claire - I was thinking a much less sophisticated version of this.☝️ Your toile fabric was wild and fun but maybe not complimentary to the pattern. I think you could make it work. Glad you made a top you loved!!!

    Forgot to say I've made the new look 6446 jumpsuit and was really lucky that it fit perfectly out of the packet (not like the shift dress I've just been making!! 😐). So I've been wearing my toile so much (I still need to sew it in the official fabric lol). I'd like to try the Sirroco but straighten the legs like Amanda from I sew a lot has done xx

  • @tanzle
    @tanzle 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for this, I've also been tempted by the jumpsuit trend so its very helpful to see your review as I think I have the same measurements as you! Do you mind me asking how tall you are? I'm 5 foot 8. I have seen some plus size women in jumpsuits on the curvy sewing collective that looked really good, but I really don't know if it would all end up being a waste of time and money for me.

    • @Penguinandpear
      @Penguinandpear  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Deborah, I am 5'6'' tall. If you do make the Zadie, I'd recommend lengthening it as it only just met at my waist (unless you have a short torso and long legs in which case itll be fine as is). Yeah I was the same as you, I saw it looking amazing on others! Give it a go in cheap fabric and then you know one way or the other. If you dont want to buy a new pattern you could put a bodice and trouser pattern together that you already own x

    This large woman’s word on gathers - I like thin, drape-y fabrics for gathered skirts. Rayon - what you’d call viscose - can’t be beat. I find gathered fabrics like this camouflage the lumps and bumps without adding bulk.

      Thanks Hayley. Generally I think it is a great pattern - the fit is very good (remember I went down two sizes, which is why there were problems with the crotch) and when I made the top the fit was fantastic but I just dont think jumpsuits are for me. Thanks for watching! x
