Thanks lots for the video! It’s so helpful! I was wondering did you install an insulation collar with these velux cabrios? We have them and it’s in the manual but no collar in the box so wondering if they aren’t necessary for cabrios? Many thanks Catrin
Hi Thank you for reaching out Sorry can’t remember very well, was a long time ago 🙈. I believe it was the last thing to be fitted. A bit tricky to do but once you start is quite straightforward. Good luck 🙌
Just remembered, yes because we run out of day light and we closed the Cabrio to make it safe and water tight and continued the next day. Hope this helps
Awesome video best on TH-cam for this. I've done it now and made some mistakes along the way.And I have 35 years experience in roofing and fitting velux. But what a mission.Respect to you and your husband for your help. I also phoned velux twice.😁😁😁👍👍.Thank you for your reply.
Hi Callum Thank you for watching my video and for getting in touch.. The installation itself was about 11 hours. This was just fitting the window and flash to make it water thigh. While Phil was fitting the flash I was assembling the two parts that makes up the cabrio. Also Phil had cut the roof battens and built the frame the day before. We prepped was much as possible before we cut through. I will say, apart from the weather and time ( to risky to leave a massive hole in the roof overnight ( weather and safety) the hardest part is fitting the top part. It’s extremely heavy and big and you have to pass it through the frame to the outside and the lock the two side hooks on both sides to lock it in place. Hope this will help and good luck 🤞🤗 You can do it
Hello, thanks for your video - it’s really helpful. I’m considering a Cabrio for our loft conversion but my wife and I need reassuring that they’re child proof. Do you think they’re as safe as all other Velux windows? Thanks!
Hi Jonny That’s a difficult question. They are safe in the sense that the railing part of it is quite high. The top bit( the one we fitted last , the big glass that creates the roof if you know what mean is to heavy for a child to open. You need to open the top bit first before you open the railing part of the Cabrio. Do to answer your question yes it is a safe as any other Velux Window when closed. Hope this will help you.
Thank you for this. Did you need planning permission?
No, I didn’t. Check with your local planning office. It vereis from council to council.

That install isnt legal in the uk. Youve cut the roof joists and have no double trimmer or double side support.
