Just watched this- Great video!I I’m a 58 year old woman, technologically challenged- watched your beginners video and successfully got my first item listed this afternoon🥳🥳 Thanks for the tips and encouragement Matt!
I have epilepsy. My major type of seizure is controlled by medication. I do have small seizures where I am not able to read, write, or speak for a few minutes. These can happen a few times a day and other days none. Because of this I cannot work outside of the home and there is not a lot I can do. I have been searching for ways to make money and eBay is one of the best things for me. I have made over $600 in 3 weeks so far selling things I have around my house. I am almost out of items so will start now thrifting (cold here so no yard sales until spring).
Really appreciate your insight on 1) Sticking to 5 listings a day for the algorithm. 2) Keeping up with the Amazons of the world w/ 1-day shipping. Stay on your grind 💪 Subscribed
I can't believe you just posted this. I was blankly staring at my eBay story after 3 listings and wondering what I should do. So timely!!!! I made a shop but wasn't sure if that was a good idea yet coz I'm new.. so thanks for this.
Loving the content. I’ve just started listing on eBay myself to give reselling a go. At 30 items and 3 sales so far. Probably wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t for your videos. Thanks for all the tips and advice
Congrats on the 15K subs! Definitely love the point about not setting too big of goals to start with. Like any business, it is a slow grind to start with, so don't get too disheartened in the early days!
You are such a natural and talented educator Matt!! I've been following your progress from the beginning, and as a teacher I totally admire your instructional skills!! Thank you for being so generous with your knowledge 🙏🤩
1. Goal Setting 2. The Setup (i.e. a spot at home you set up for your eBay items and activities - ideally a listing station, and a shipping station) 3. Find your first $10, or $500 (every seller has a default limit of 10 items in the first few months) *[Additional note between steps 3 and 4 - be aware of the Danger zone, which is the danger zone of where people give up and say eBay doesn't work. Need to work yourself through this zone.] 4. Worry less about sales when you first start, and focus more on getting to 200 listings instead (potentially uploading 5 a day, or bulk upload 30 on a day on the weekend - depending on what suits you) 5. Rocket and rank - around the 3 to 6 month mark. There's a few tips you can implement to 'cash in' on all the listings you've made, by ensuring you're ranking, and you can close/convert on your listings. There's several tips mentioned in the video at around the 6:50 mark 6. Repeat daily - can take 18 months to become a full time seller. The higher your goals and expectations with eBay, the more consistent you have to be daily with your processes to get the algorithm on your side, and to ultimately sell and make money. Summary - there's a nice flow chart at 10:30 of the video that shows all the steps
Great video, theres lots to take away from the information you shared. A lot of past sellers, felt discouraged, going into 2023. Theres still hope, granted, its not as easy as used it to be.
I can’t do 1 business day shipping. It just too much for me at the moment. I have my inventory in a storage unit and it’s not worth driving back and forth all the time. I’m usually good with my shipping (around a day or two). I’m part time but I sure do enjoy this!
I do 2 business days not because I can't do 1 business day or same day, but rather I've noticed my buyers in my category tend to add to their purchase later and ask for a postage refund on the second purchase so it can be combined. So I leave the door open for that :)
This is an interesting video i only listed one or two items and it took me half a year too sell 5 items but once you do it a bunch of times i feel like buyers beggen to notice or trust you more when they buy your first couple of items because one of my items sold in just one day
Hey Matt. Great content, worthy of 15K+++++ members. Have been checking out your box lights for some time now and finally made the plunge and purchased a set. Thanks for the link. :)
Started part time 6 months ago, keeping cost of goods as low as possible that way I don't have a lot of money that I could lose due to scams, and postage mistakes. Strategy is working for me, as my confidence and sourcing experience grows I will pull the trigger for higher priced goods seeking more per item profit. It's a learning experience.
It's a learning experience for sure Roy and I did the low cost purchasing for a while when I first started. I almost never do that now.. it's all based on quality and sell through (providing the profit is also there at the increase purchase price). Hard to pull that trigger as you say when you're just starting out but I can assure you you'll see bigger profits when you build up that confidence. Nice to hear from you - happy selling.
Your work ethic and dedication is amazing! You are such a great teacher / educator too I can see why you love sales and use to do well because you are such a people person!
Awesome your last video in particular the first 3 months limit of 10 listing/$500. I'm moving to Perth frrom NZ so I can start my ebay business. I've followed you along with other aussie ebay sellers and it's the first time I'd heard about the first 3 month limits. Doesn't put me off though but will have to make some adjustments to what I planned to sell once I arrived and set up. Cheers Shane (I do have family in Perth the reason why we're moving there and am retired)
Unreal Shane, i believe the 10 listing limit is for the first month and you can speak to eBay sooner then that to unlock more listings. Good luck with the move and thanks so much for watching, means alot!
They do! I'd say these box lights provide a brighter stronger light though! Each to their own per the set up of the listing station i'd say. Thanks as always for watching!
Thanks so much for posting this Matt. I think I've got some nice items, a spare room, even a trestle table, but I'm really stuck with confidence actually creating the eBay store. Are my items good enough? What happens if literally nothing happens? Your video has really helped 👍
Hey Glen lyk Matty said just dive right in as i was the same as yourself had bought plenty off ebay but didnt have the confidence until meeting up with Matty and following these simple steps so lyk Paul Walker Said " Youv'e got this " 🤣👍
If you can find some unique items (like I used to sell camera attachments for old cameras), etc... then I think you were more likely to get sales because people are waiting to buy those items and can't normally find them.
I have an Ebay account. Use to be a top seller without a store. Now I sell a few things and old stuff. I use old packaging I get from stuff I buy day to day. My day job now pays 6 figures so less need to hustle.
I’ve only ever been a casual seller on EBay and haven’t listed for a few years after a bad experience. I’m still super nervous over the whole postage like a lot of others but I’m keen to get restarted. I’m not sure if I should have an eBay store or not. Are you able perhaps to do a video on whether it’s better to have a store or not please? I’m sure there would be many interested in this too. I loved your step by step guide in this video, thanks.
You’re a legend mate give the best straight forward advice out there. I have a quick question what is the limit you can sell/earn on eBay before it’s classed as a business & you have to pay tax on it.
Thanks mate! The second you buy a good to sell it for profit your classed as a business and need to pay your taxes. I’d play it by the book and report your profits come tax time
Great summary advice for new people starting Ebay Matt. Two and a half years in and your going great guns. via "send offer"..technically you cannot do anything until eBay says you can send watchers an offer on a specific item…however when doing so you can decide in send the same offer to future watchers. Another factor Matt is feedback. It can be frustrating when you've got stuck with negative reviews from bad buyers. You only need one or two shitty reviews to kill your store early on.
true. However just like Google searches where people rarely go to page 2, if you build up your business to make regular sales, your negative feedback will drop to page 2 very quickly and most buyers won't care about it. Something that has always stuck with me is that you wouldn't trust Apple if they had 100% feedback on all their iPhones. Some margin for error makes for a believable vendor. So if you're on 99.4% I wouldn't lose sleep or make up correlation between that and your sales performance :)
@@jonchan.meaningful Yes, you're right. A less than perfect score can have more credibility. Interestingly the buyers I've had trouble with all seem to have %100 scores themselves. I wonder how they do it. 🤔
@@josephherring3807 low activity? Grey area problems that aren’t clear no nos on eBay? People not leaving them feedback? It’s almost like a bad behaviour funnel 😂 maybe lots of impressions and none of “converted” into real feedback 😆
What do you think about eBay’s future with new items? Is Amazon just gonna be the king of new unbranded items ? Because I see eBay focusing on used and collectibles so I’m trying to figure out where to put my time into.

I do 23 percent ads. I’m buying items less than $5. 75 percent gross is okay
Wow!
I don’t think it’s wrong do you? I want product to move and it has
Another factor Matt is feedback. It can be frustrating when you've got stuck with negative reviews from bad buyers. You only need one or two shitty reviews to kill your store early on.
Such a good point - hopefully these steps help provide the best service possible
So if you're on 99.4% I wouldn't lose sleep or make up correlation between that and your sales performance :)

ha, spare bedroom, I don't think many on the resell wagon have one....
A white wall is sufficient
I started using the back of my bedroom door and a desk lamp. Kept items in tub in bottom of wardrobe.
I just have a couple random things I want to sell lol I'm not trying to make this a career lol
Same game different levels
What do you think about eBay’s future with new items? Is Amazon just gonna be the king of new unbranded items ? Because I see eBay focusing on used and collectibles so I’m trying to figure out where to put my time into.
EBay is definitely a collectibles marketplace
What about us poor souls who only want to sell our own stuff?
List very good sell through rate items
@TheAussieFlipper the majority of my clothing is either new or only worn once. Would that equate to good sell rate?
Aren’t you concerned about doing this videos encouraging others to do this (like myself) and therefore potentially losing business somewhat?
Nope there’s 12 million buyers each month on eBay. We good
