this is really cute, I like that this game did keep some of the character drama from the original series, like shinji seeking gendo's praise and asuka wanting people to care for her. Especially for this ending, she softens up and shows that she wants him to hold her, which matches up with what we found out when that angel attacked her mind. Shinji also shows some initiative by asking her to come to the bus shelter, although a simple gesture we do know he has compassion for his friends.
For all of you who want to see more ShinjixAsuka material, read the manga "Evangelion: Re-Take". It's a a fucking masterpiece. As dark and epic as the original series, but also more heartwarming, and it makes Asuka's and Shinji's relationship the center of the story. Better than The End of Evangelion, in my humble opinion.
Specify the all ages version. It's not terrible for a doujin but there are still a lot of issues, particularly the behavior of certain characters. If you adopt the theory that it's all a dream except for the final scene of Asuka and Shinji on the beach again it's much better and explains all the issues.

No it's not canon sadly but honestly the canon endings are open to interpretation as it is. My view is that Asuka and Shinji do like each other and share a bond that transcends even the power of the Angels. Even in End of Evangelion, they somehow survive
It's unclear, Anno says you can interpret Evangelion however you'd like. However, if it makes you feel better, there is a Fan Theory stating that everything in Evangelion is canon, and that all the alternate continuities and spinoffs, no matter how bizarre, are the result of parallel universes and alternate timeline branches being created after every 3rd Impact. in other words they are all tied together in some kind of huge connected MCU type sh%t, so I guess, at least if this theory is how you interpret Evangelion's conclusion, this would basically be an alternate/parallel branch off Neon Genesis’ Timeline where Shinji would avert Asuka’s downfall arc
To me this is like what would happen if they could just communicate with each other. Like, sure, they still have all the insane trauma but if they're were just able to open up to each other I think this is what you'd see. Everything that happens in the the series is because they can't talk to each other out of fear of hurting themselves but we see, especially in Asuka's mind violation episode that this is what they want. I was honestly expecting 3.0+1.0 to end something like this. Like the're not in a relationship but at least they're shown to be open with each other about their feelings and willing to see what happens.

Asuka has moved on with her life and the final shot is Shinji and Mana holding hands as Mana says 'thank you'.
I hate Mana. Even before I played Girlfriend of Steel I hated her. I played the Shinji Ikari Raising Project first (which Mana was in) and I hated her in that and before that. Asuka ending is the best cause Asuka is best girl, Asushin for life, and Mana dies. 10/10 would kill Mana again

Shinji gets to decide the fate of the world and in the end he literally brings Auska back from the dead.

Honestly, this is kind of what I was expecting at the end of 4.0. Shinji finally come to terms with his past and was ready to deal with the world the way it is and not how he wanted it to be. Asuka had grown too but still had walls up and realized she still had feelings for Shinji when she saw him again. I wasn't expecting them to be in a relationship or anything but just something like the two of them sitting on The Beach and one of them asking something like "are you ready?" and the other replying "yeah, I am" and then a shot of them walking into the real world holding hands or something. Just an acknowledgement that they had both finally acknowledged their feelings and were willing to see what would happen. People always ask me "Asuka said she was over Shinji in 4.0.Why do you say she had feelings for him?" For me there's a few hints. The first is the way she follows him to the lake when he wants to be alone, she obviously still cares about him on some level. The second is when she went back to tell him that she "thinks she had a crush on him but grew up first" is a pretty big one. No one, who's about to embark on a suicide mission, is going to tell someone "hey I just wanted to let you know before we all die that I liked you but I don't anymore"; that's not tying up loose ends. If she wanted to tie up loose ends she could have said something like "I'm really sorry how I treated you. I saw myself in you and I didn't like that so I lashed out. I should have tried harder to explain myself and to understand you." The way she tells him I liked you but not any more is almost like she's trying to see his reaction and to also test herself to see how she reacts to saying it out loud. I think some part of her wanted to hurt Shinji for disappearing like that for 14 years. Thirdly, she says to him "I think I liked you". We know from the mind violation episode and from when they're in instrumentality, there's no doubt that she knew she liked him and that's what made her so angry. She liked him even though he was like the opposite of everything she claimed to admire (independance, strength, success by defeating others, etc.). Fourth, Mari asks her how "the little doggy is doing" and if there's been any progress. Asuka says she's not interested in Shinji but I see that as an indicator that Asuka may have shared her feelings about Shinji to Mari and Mari sees that there's still something there. And finally, people lying about their feeling for others is a core theme throughout the series and movies. Everyone is constantly in denial about their feelings for each other. Asuka claims to have grown up but we still hear her admit to her loneliness in Kensuke's cabin. Every with her and Mari hanging out all the time and experiencing the last 14 years together, she still doesn't have any real connections to people. I think Mari is more like a work friend for her. With all that said, I think her line to Shinji was said more for her own benefit than hers. Just like how the "practice kiss" was done out of boredom, how Shinji wasn't supposed to open the door between their rooms (walls of Jericho which we see in the mind violation episode just how lonely she was after she shut the door), and even Misato's lie to Kaji about loving someone else (although at least she got to admit it to him). Lying to hide your true feelings is constant. Anyway, all this to say that I was disappointed by the end of 4.0. I'm not going to do some weird theorycrafting about Shinji and Mari. I accept that for whatever reason, they decided not to pair up Shinji and Asuka and it broke my heart; especially seeing Asuka alone on the train platform at the end. To me, the series and movies were all about learning to open up to people and talk to them. We finally get two main characters, who couldn't bring themselves to admit their feelings for eachother, starting to learn this and then the movie says "huh, that's interesting, anyway, how about this?" and does a 180 degree turn.
That 4 ending is open for interpretation. One can assume Marie takes Shinji to finally cross that platform to the other side where everyone is standing... Since Shinji specifically asked Marie to get him after he finished the impact... One can also assume Shinji finally closed all that alternate reality, closed all that alternate endings. And he picked one world where he is a normal teen but he still needed Marie to get him out of the loop and onto the world he chose.
Leave it to me to find a video game ending from 2005 just to find any happy moments between Asuka and Shinji
