It IS mindboggling, isn't it? It happens though ... some people's lives are truly tragic 😢
The phrase "I would never ..." is a standard response - from people who haven't been in that situation. It's okay. I used to say it too - until I saw things that made me realise no-one can truly say how they'd behave when faced with trauma. Some people just need more of a hand than others, s'all 🙃

As someone who was also put into foster care at age 8, I can understand why there is an estranged relationship with her mother. I never lived with my mother again (29 yo), but she has helped me out as I live on my own.
One thing I learned (after a long time) is that my mother's sins for putting me in foster care does NOT mean she owes me. Just means motherhood wasn't for her, and as much as I hated that, when I came into that realization, our relationship were able to have a healthy relationship.

In my culture and religion, kids don't owe parents anything and parents must take care of children. But children should step in to help and times when parents fall short. Such things can be very sad and I wish people made better decisions when it comes to having children in order to avoid ruining a potential child's life. I understand stuff happens (even rape), but with medical technology getting advanced, we can try our best to have children when we are absolutely prepared. I also hope our laws soon give us that liberty at least, if not, free abortion access.

@@zainabahmed6335 while my mother was not perfect, I'm grateful she gave me a chance and didn't abort me. I do agree though we need to be better at making decisions to prepare us (as much as possible) to take care of our children.

@@lc5786 I am definitely sure your mother was a good mom and did the best she did to take care of you and protect you. I still believe women who give up their children to foster care or adoption are good mothers because instead of neglecting them, they are trying to let them have an opportunity to a better life, something which they can't provide for some Time. I don't believe in abortion unless absolutely necessary. Today, laws in America are such that they dont even law that in few states.

I can tell she thinks her mother owes her for giving her up but here's the thing... I personally feel that if you have an issue with someone, whether it be a parent, a friend, a family member, don't take money from them. If you don't like someone and you want nothing to do with them but you think they OWE you something emotionally or mentally or even spiritually, don't then turn around and try to take it financially but subsequently tell them you're willing to pay them back. If you truly felt like this is how they were going to pay you back then you would tell them straight up you're giving me this money because I feel like you owe it to me. You don't put it in writing that you're going to pay them back. That just makes no sense. Now they can sue you for what you owe them and then you're out money and your mind. And in the end they don't give AF at all about you still.

So to address JJ's question about mother taking 2 years before suing... JJ clearly does not understand that despite citizenship status... when cost of tickets is $1200 to fly to Europe.... it is $1200 to fly to USA + hotel + car rental + whatever expenses + food + legal fees +++++++++. No rational human being would be sitting in Denmark or wherever wanting to hop on a plane over $3000 some loan when cost of flying itself is 1/3 of the loan amount. Unfortunately that is often a significant oversight on behalf of JJ to understand that "normal people" consider $1000 A LOT of money.

So a grown woman - felt her mother is just rich enough to bail her out. Never lend $ to family but trust it has to happen. I love judge judy so most times i feel she is clear. But sometimes it is sad bc once you have been in these situations it becomes manipulative on the defendant and plaintiff side. Her job is to shift through that. Yes i can agree it is a stale argument… but even at my age i have learned from my parents to stand on my own two feet. They have assisted me. I have NEVER dreamed abt going on national TV to prove why they don’t deserve payback. And im not from money. I think it is just 100% sad that if you feel comfortable enough to ask for help you should feel comfortable reciprocating the support. Just sad her daughter felt that no I don’t owe her. Your statement is one dimensional, there can be more to the story of her mother leaving her in foster care. If she didn't cared, she wouldn't tried to renew relation and help her. If it was about the money, she would have filled the claim? sooner. I think that mother tried to help her, but also not be used, because she could not tell how much her daughter would change after that time they were seperated. If i were in her daughter possition i would make payments at slow rate, so maybe after one year it would be paid off, and the whole situation would not turn into a court, especialy if my mother said to me, that i dont have to return money after one month, but i can make small payments towards it. I think plaintiff should win this case. Defendand was trying to use her, and turn whole loan into a "gift" which in this case wasn't.
