      Right, and then they talk about not being able to eat any of the food - but yet all the food was gone, along with the leftover containers, at the end of the night? To add onto JJs example, these people basically went to a restaurant, ordered a bunch of food and drinks that maybe took a long time to come out, but still ate everything - and then at the end they go up to the staff and say, comp our entire meal otherwise we are going to give you a bad review. Thats not how it works.

    Working in the food service industry and one that caters to many weddings, If you deal with a bride that is dissatisfied with your services, be sure to check with the other vendors that worked the wedding. Many times you'll find the brides are trying to get a free wedding by complaining about ALL of them- The hall, the cake, the food, the photographer, the dresses, etc. Sadly, many of these are small business's who rely on every payment. It's amazing how many scumbags are out there.

      Its common practice at any event to serve food along side alcohol - usually appetisers, it just helps prolong the drunk phase usually towards the end of the night. Her point was there was nothing soaking up the alcohol, she was complaining that the defendant was tardy and there was a reliance on her to be on time and serve the food. I've been to wedding ceremonies where food was served super late but alcohol wasnt, it's not a great vibe. People start yelling stuff during speeches, become restless, hungry, hangry etc..

Imagine planning a wedding and stressing hoping it will go well, like what would you do if the food was late? People just waiting around…, getting bored. Alcohol breaks tension. @That Tunisian Crochet Life 100%, I agree there was definitely no case. She did still get her moneys worth, unfortunate it was tardy. I understand why she made that comment though. Her delivery just was very poor. It doesn’t matter either way as the service was still provided.

  • @brandikins11
    @brandikins11 ปีที่แล้ว +552

    Plaintiffs were definitely lying in this one. Their story couldn’t be kept straight. It’s one thing to be unhappy with the service but outrageous to eat all that food and ask for your money back. Glad Judy doesn’t run on emotion.

    • @autosaver
      @autosaver ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You’re missing the point of the case.
      They didn’t just pay for food but for the service. The service from what was described was so bad that people that attended the wedding had to take over roles they originally thought the catering would do. This led to the wedding being more chaotic and stressful.
      I agree with Judge Judy here. It’s not a case but a situation where you leave a negative review. The negative review could greatly hurt the catering business so the plaintiffs asked for a partial refunds to just move on. The business has to decide if it’s worth the hassle or not. The negative review could cost future clients and tens of thousands of dollars of missed revenue.

    • @brandikins11
      @brandikins11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@autosaver also true, on a smaller note I’ve been there done that. I once had paid Lowe’s to install carpeting for me. The guy came a day late (which is a hassle when your house/furniture is in disarray) and it was just one guy. So I had to actually do some of the work. Even though that’s why I PAID them, so I wouldn’t have to.
      I didn’t ask for a refund but I sort of get why since a wedding is a much bigger deal. So a bad review is warranted, but doesn’t change the fact that they still consumed thousands of dollars worth of product.

    • @itsnadaaaa
      @itsnadaaaa ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@autosaverTo me it seems like both of them were responsible. They over invited guests and then couldn’t come up with a straight answer about how many ppl actually attended.
      They ate all of the food, used the facilities, enjoyed the alcohol and etc, and then the lady says herself that the wedding guests thanked the wedding planner for hosting a great event.
      Yh, the service could’ve been better absolutely, but it seems like they had a bigger problem with everything then the actual attendees. Which is usually how mothers are during weddings anyways. They always want everything to be 100% perfect which is simply not gonna happen. Pay the bills and move on.

    • @IanKnight-sf1zn
      @IanKnight-sf1zn ปีที่แล้ว

      @@autosaver No! you both missed a putting the puzzle pieces together, they had started serving themselves, they all love to drink, and it was 180 of them, well, all of those things are positives as no one had to wait for drinks, the drinks were perfectly made to their specs *wink*, they got skutzy drunk and was partying so by the time to food came, they tore into it like pirahnas and there was no going back to one bartender over ppl serving themselves. The party was a huge success and everyone had fun, ate good, and took the leftovers home, because im sure they told their guests about their complaints in that they paid for so much stuff including leftovers, well, their guests took the food home!!! So the real crime here is they lied in their review perhaps, if they didn't admit they liked and enjoyed the food their just upset it didn't go as orderly as they wanted.

    I'm more inclined to believe the defendant. She probably let the bride know she was going to be late and she did provide workers, but Bridezilla was not satisfied. The food was good enough to eat and wanting to take it home but then also so bad that she didn't want to pay for it?

      My dad owned a restaurant growing up, and we had at least 2 wedding/parties a month. We never had anyone ask for leftovers. And a side note that has come up in other cases but not mentioned here - all the staff were fed too, if they wanted. The only complaint we had, and they tried not to pay, was a guy paying for his second daughter's wedding...he tried 3 other places in the area, but they all refused him because he didn't pay for his first daughter's wedding a few years prior (relatively small area - most the restaurant owners knew each other). My dad never turns anyone down, so he took the wedding. After the event, he started to complain (despite the bride telling my dad and us staff how wonderful everything was) and didn't want to pay. My dad stood up to him and told him you ate the food, drank the drinks, danced the dances, ate the cake, had the photos -everyone was happy and satisfied except, apparently YOUR MISERABLE OLD SELF! Either you pay or you will not have ANYONE left to do weddings for your other two daughters, because I was the only choice you had this time and I won't do it again!
      He paid, and my dad had his youngest daughter's wedding, and his 50th anniversary party - both paid without a problem.

      It’s all because most brides want to brag about the money that was put into their wedding. 7,000 dollars is a big chunk of money that at least in my life would’ve feed way more than 160-180 people doing it myself. Leftovers would’ve been available as well. 😂

      We had two entirely different caterers, one of which included on-site chefs to custom make omelets, AND another separate bartender. And easily over 100 guests. $7,000+ is insane.
      Having a miserable experience is, as JJ pointed out, entirely at the mistake of not vetting before booking.

    These people wanted a cheap wedding, so they got what they paid for then complain. Professional waiting staff cost money.
    For 160 people they would have needed a minimum of 3 Bartenders
    For seated dinners, 1 server for every 2 tables. If each table seats 10 people, you can see that 4 servers are nowhere near enough.
    For a buffet meal, the 4 servers would have been enough if they were trained professionals.
    They should either have hired a professional team of servers and bartenders or draw up a signed contract with the caterer specifying the number of trained servers and bartenders they wanted, and the level of service expected from them. People create their own stress by being cheap and not planning properly.

Another friend was a dance instructor who choregraphed and taught us an easy "first dance" set to the song of our choice (Songbird by Fleetwood Mac). I think we had about 150 people attend.
