I really like that Annabeth solves the chair problem with feelings, and not logic. The quest and Percy are challenging her to grow in various ways. That scene had such great acting from Leah too!!
Annabeth has always been a fav for me and I am so excited to see her development in the show, Leah is phenomenal casting!!
I almost fell off my chair when she said Seaweed Brain. 😭 Literally witnessing history right there. And the way she said it is so natural and organic too. I love this ep a lot.

The episodes just keep getting better and these young actors are all so talented!!! They capture the essences of the book characters so well, and I've really enjoyed the minor plot changes

This is my favorite episode so far we get two gods in one episode portrayed so well by their actor, we finally get the seaweed brain qoute from Annabeth, and I must the acting that Walker Scobell and Leah Jeffries delievers in this episode are really good especially for child actors. three more to i am so excited if this keeps being the quality we get I really hope we get all books adapted including the heroes of olympus series!
Something I've just noticed. In this tv series percy is wearing a green flannel during the quest in the graphic novel of The Lightning Thief he's wearing green striped hoodie

I've been waiting for your reactions, haha! This episode was top tier for me. The Ares/Grover scene while not in the book was fascinating to me; the push and pull between those two was so well done. Ares was such an asshole but he made me laugh quite a bit so I hope we see more, I'm now crazy amped for a certain fight scene between a demi-god and a god of war. The percabeth scenes had me taking a lap around my living room - Leah and Walker had no right to act so well lol, it was so intense and you could really feel the tension and chemistry between them. If this is how they're acting in the first season I don't know how I'm going to survive the other four. Also, Annabeth's personal development in this episode was *chefs kiss* from idolising the Gods to realising their clear flaws and vowing not to be like them. I also really like Hephaestus & felt quite bad for him, I feel like he's the more humble of the God's and I hope we get to see more of him. Loved your discussion afterwards - I think Grover's gonna say that it was a demigod that probably stole the lightning bolt & maybe he'll even suspect Clarisse? Also, I love how the series is doing more of a deep dive into character development, I don't remember the books going into so much detail.
Grover vs Ares was an excellent addition to the story in my opinion - and percabeth almost killed me off (can you tell?) I also have Clarisse in mind for Grover’s suspicions 👀 I feel like they’re introducing so many elements of the characters so much earlier than the books did - for example Annabeths curiosity with Hephaestus’ inventions - which gives me so much excitement for where the show may take us!! Ares is Adam Copeland also known as Edge from the WWE but he is using Adam in the AWE now. He is also in other tv shows like Vikings and movies also Highlander
the writers and showrunners from Black Sails are elevating this series so much in beautiful ways. All the changes from the books are so good and deeply thought out. i LOVE storytelling!

I think it was amazing to see Aries just be out in the open about his emotion and desire and enjoyment of war and conflict. I love how we got to see Grover use his emotional skills to interrogate him, but most of all I was so amazed, and moved by the moment, Percy chooses to sacrifice himself for the good of the quest, as well as see Annabeth, who’s vied for her mothers attention and approval finally define expectation by choosing what was right versus what was easy in the eyes of his Hesphestus who would know better. I can’t wait to see the next episodes and see how they play with the reveal of the lightning thief. Also, if no one has informed you yet, Clarisse, the demigod who bullied Percy back at camp, and who got angry when her spear was destroyed, is Aries’s daughter. And the reason of her frustration was that the spear was given to her by her father.

That was a great "awwwww" moment between Percy and Annabeth at the beginning but I felt like it was a bit early. She still seems to be in that "I don't really respect you but I'm here for the mission" phase most of the time with him so her emotions in that moment felt premature. Maybe it's just me but I feel like they need to build their relationship more before they're ready for those kind of feelings. Also, Timothy Omundson as Hephaestus! I've been a fan of his since "Psych" and it's always good to see him working since his stroke. Another great post! Cheers from Florida.
I didn’t know that about Timothy Omundson, he was excellent in this episode and made me so excited about Hephaestus!
He just sacrificed himself for the both of them, they thought he was dead, and Annabeth just saw the fates snip a thread right in front of her eyes. I think it's just right for her to be so relieved to the point of hugging him. It's not supposed to be romantic, if anything it's what sealed their friendship. They're definitely building their relationship more cause the point of the tunnel of love is her starting to show her vulnerable side and percy trusting her. I'm sure the slowburn is intact, they just have so much chemistry that's why people thought they're rushing the relationship.

Percy was so awesome in this ep...my favorite so far..never read the books but I love the character already... grover is awesome..my problem is with annabeth she's the weak link so far in terms of acting...it takes me out of it sometimes...but still loving it...

(Niamh here) I slightly agreed in the first two episodes, I thought her acting may have been weaker than the others. But I put it down to the actors being quite young. However I have to disagree now, the last two episodes have showed her incredible acting chops. Leah has been a stand out for Danny and I so far!
