Oh My Word! How could you not include the final part of this scene?!! Amneris' "Empia razza..." is one of the most spine tingling moments in opera. I guess you're trying to ensure that we tune in to the broadcast on Sirius tonight! Looking forward to it but please, please re-edit this and include that last Anatema Su Voi!
Nelmarie Louw Yes indeed. I was really impressed by how she stuck with the dynamics Verdi wrote in the score, including a couple of gorgeous attacks on softer high notes that begun a phrase. She has a solid "chest voice" too but doesn't overdo it. The confrontation with Aida in Act Two was the highlight of the night when I tuned in to the broadcast on Sirius. I thought she was a good Carmen and last year, she was great as Azucena. She's stepped it up a notch again. can't wait for the HD broadcast.
@Bravo Luca I have seen both Dolora Zajick and Anita Rachvelishvili live as Amneris in Arena di Verona, in 2008 and 2015 respectively. Both were excellent performances, which I thoroughly enjoyed and have fond memories of. I prefer not to try to decide who is "the best" - the definition of which will surely differ from person to person and even between opera experts and critics - but to enjoy a variety of different performances.
@@verdiguy In Cape Town where I live, we don't have the live broadcasts, but some theaters screen recordings thereof about a month later. I have just seen that there will be a number of screenings from 3 November onwards in a cinema close to me. I am super excited, and will definitely go to one or more of the screenings. Also, next year Adriana Le Couvreur with both Anita Rachvelishivili and Anna Netrebko will be shown.
I'm looking forward to the broadcast of Adriana, a sadly overlooked little gem. If you add in Piotr Beczala, you have some pretty good star power and Ambrogio Maestri as Michonnet is luxury casting to die for. We're also lucky in that we get to see a number of live relays from the Bolshoi as well. The intermission interviews at the Met with the singers are lots of fun and they often leave the camera running backstage so you can see the stagehands changing the scenery and shouting at each other, which depending on the opera you're watching, can be the most enjoyable part of the evening! I'm amazed that you don't get the live relays. While we're part of a provincial capital, the population here in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia is well under 70,000, considerably less than Cape Town. Can you get Sirius Satellite Radio in South Africa? If you can, it will be the best gift you'll ever give yourself as the Met has its own channel, with two or three live broadcasts a week plus archived performances dating back to the 1930s with singers such as Rosa Ponselle.
Listening to the broadcast and this has to be one of the worst casts I've ever heard. Everyone is vocally deficient and/ or out of tune. Most are both.
@@ZuraBalanchivadze Why? She isn't even a mezzo, let alone a good one, let alone good enough to do justice to Amneris. Listen to Oralia Dominguez, who was at the time about a decade younger and 100 times more powerful and convincing: th-cam.com/video/HoYBoqogflU/w-d-xo.html

I agree, that is the best part of this scene, and Anita does it marvellously!

What a joke. Viva Dominguez!
This is absolutely terrible
Weak centre. The voice disappears and that break is getting worse.
I would still rely on Ricardo Muti's opinion about her.
