  • In this easy to follow video I show you how to rebuild the carburetor on an older 7HP Tecumseh engine on a snowblower. The same procedure will apply even if your engine is not mounted on a snowblower.

    Thank you so much for making this video! Excellent job of walking us through the process. I have a 1978 Ariens snowblower - 5hp Tecumseh engine with the exact same carburetor. I have never worked on a carburetor. Thanks to your video not only did a I take it off, throw a kit in it, and re-assemble it. It fired-up on the third pull!!! It don't leak or anything. Again Thank you.

    Your videos are much appreciated! I bought a 20 year old Simplicity snow blower last year. It ran great for a few storms. Then it ran rough and gas was gushing out of the carburetor bulb. I had no idea what was wrong. Looked up TH-cam for help and discovered your videos for rebuilding carbs. The brass float wasn't floating because of fuel leaking into it. I followed your videos for taking apart, replacing the float, adjusting the idle screws, governor arm, and throttle screw. It started on the first pull and is adjusted just right. I've never done anything like this before so congrat's for posting these videos!

    That's a great video!
    Our snowblower sat outdoors, partly covered for a number of years (at least 10) and with fresh gas did start and run for a few moments briefly this fall, but then wouldn't start at all.
    I got a rebuild kit and new float and followed the video instructions and it started, and ran, on the the first try; and restarted easily.
    So thank you very much for the excellent presentation. It was clear, and I especially appreciated the close-ups showing exactly what goes where. Also appreciated your explaining that drill bits could be used if the special tool wasn't available--it wasn't.

    Just did this on a 1978 Ariens with a H70 Tecumseh. Your video was a great help. After the rebuild and replacing the float because there was gas inside it, the old beast is running like a champ. Thanks for such a detailed, easy to follow video!

    I'll admit. I have ALWAYS DREADED learning how to work on a carburetor thinking it was going to be super complex. Watching this has given me the confidence to go tackle the issue with the snowblower! Thanks for posting this!!!!!! If I would have tried to do something like this, I would get bleeped out the entire time while getting frustrated LOL

    Thanks for the clear set of instructions. Our tired old snow blower runs like a new machine. We bought a kit for $20 and rebuilt the carb according to your instructions. This will make the rest of the winter in Anchorage a lot more bearable.

    Great video Dony.I recently purchased a used rototiller with the carb detached,got it home,installed the carb and would only run when gas was poured in the carb.I took it back off,ordered a kit,installed it,still the same thing,took it back off again this time I removed the welch plug and to my surprise their was a live small grub worm living under it along with dirt,strangest thing I ever saw! Cleaned it out,back together and runs like a champ now.True story.

    Hello Don and all in the morning I will start my cleaning on my 6 hp torn snow throw built in 2000 I believe I will not remove for now I will remove bol and clean and float and needle and spray carb clean.
    I will try this way first. Then put back and removed all gas with a baster add fresh gas a bit and remove again. Then add more fresh gas just enough to see if it starts. Plus new spark plug.
    Don thank you for all you do for us.
    Snow starts tonight.

    Excellent guide! Only advice I would add would be to almost completely unscrew the main needle valve in the bowl nut before screwing it onto the bowl. If the needle is too far in from the factory, you can ruin it when you torque the bowl nut.

    • @1575murray
      @1575murray 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also the idle mixture screw needs to be installed with the bowl facing straight down otherwise the emulsion tube can be damaged.

  • @chrisweber9176
    @chrisweber9176 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You talk about installing the needle seat with the ridge facing the bottom of the carb. To me, it looks like you installed it facing the top of the carb. You did have the carb upside down in the video. If the ridged end goes into the hole first, then it is truly facing the top of the carb. Is this correct?
    Other than that point, it is refreshing to see someone present material like this in a professional and methodical approach. Keep up the good work.
    Chris

    Had to replace the needle and seat on my snowblower. Thank you for the tips.
    Didn't do a complete teardown... was just aiming to fix the gas leak and it wouldn't start. After the snowblower started right up to my surprise.
    The old seat was completely clogged. Forced it out with compressed air which made the bowl float leak. $11 in parts for the two gaskets, clip, needle and seat...

    I was always taught never to use gasoline to clean carbs because of its volitility and lower flash point in comparison to other cleaners you could use like kerosene, diesel or mineral spirits. But I guess if your careful enough not to clean them around open flames, sparks and keep the shop well ventilated you'll be fine.

    Hello Dony. thanks for the instructions. I have a (I believe it's 5HP) MTD Snow King Model 317-550-000 with the Tecumseh engine. I was given this snowblower. It had sat for years. I cleaned the carburetor, but it still won't run good. Perhaps I didn't do a very good job...not like you did. I'm going to get the repair kit like you did. The main problem with my carburetor now is that it will only run on full choke making the control lever useless. When I try to "off choke" it dies. I believe I have everything out of adjustment now as I've been tweaking it to make it run on full choke. Any other pointers much appreciated. What I'll be doing at any rate is follow your video instructions. Thank you again.

    I rebuilt mine (5hp MTD snowblower) and all seems ok now. One difference I noticed is that my fuel bowl nut only seems to have 1 hole. But I can make the engine blow black smoke by richening it. So I think it's ok.
    One question. The throttle lever that sticks out of the sheet metal covering is broken in half. Do you know where I can get a replacement?

    Is there a way to bypass the safety shutoff on an Ariens 4 HP Model 922024 snow-blower with the attachment clutch engaged(auger/impeller) once the Interlock lever or Traction drive levers are released on the handles to keep the engine running? Quick question donyboy...I rebuilt my tecumseh carb on an old H50 for my woodchipper, but I didn't replace the float. I noticed that my engine runs great, but when I shut it off, fuel continues to enter the carb and it soaks my muffler. Is this an issue with the float or float setting? Thanks for the great informational videos!

    donyboy73, thank you for all your videos... they're awesome and VERY VERY helpful. I followed your video step by step and cleaned out the carb, reassembled, etc etc. However, a few seconds after putting gas in the gas tank, fuel began to pour out of the carb/air filter. I checked the float, shaking it and listening for liquids and there was nothing. Do you know what is causing this? Thanks again for your great videos and look forward to reading your response. Have a nice day.
