- Fr. Stanley Rother was an American Priest from Oklahoma who attended Mount St. Mary's Seminary In Emmitsburg, MD. He was martyred for the Catholic faith on July 28, 1981.
He will be beatified on September 23, 2017 by Pope Francis.

Am in Maryland for the summer and stumbled across the Grotto site, did not know this was a special site in the life of Fr Rother.
I spent a period of life in a Guatemalan town near Santiago Atitlán, and my parish of record is the parish adjacent to Fr Rother’s. I crossed the lake from time to time to visit the Atitlán church where Fr Rother worked. His story was a big influence in my deciding to become Catholic. His memory lives on in Guatemala, inspiring many in their lives and vocations.
