  • An Ordinary Martyr: The Life and Death of Blessed Stanley Rother tells the story of a young man born into a devout German Catholic family in the small farming town of Okarche, Oklahoma. His calling to the priesthood and missionary service led him to Guatemala where he would give his life for his people. This short film captures the heart, devotion and resolution of Blessed Stanley Rother and the ultimate sacrifice he made for his faith.

This touched me. I'm from Canada and went to Guatemala in 1981 with a lady from Guatemala . I remember that it was very tense as I was there as a tourist I didn't think any of it and I remember going to mass with the people I was staying with and I hadn't been to church in a long time. Now after seeing this I really feel a connection of what father stan went through as there really was a tension at the time but didn't stop the faithful from going to mass in all the Christian faiths. May Father Stan intercede for all of us to God in these trying times in our world as the good Shepard he was through Jesus's our lord Amen.

What an amazing man, a true Catholic patriot and martyr. I pray to God that I could become half of the man he was!

Padre Aplas (the affectionate name he was given by the people of Santiago) was and still is a powerful witness to the love of God and God's people. I have felt the power of his presence in the room of his death, I've been blessed to touch the bullet holes in the wall there, and have prayed with the people at Mass in the church in Santiago Atitlan on several occasions. As well, I have prayed at the site of his entombed heart, which his family so generously and lovingly allowed to stay with his flock in Guatemala. Fr. Stan's story has moved me to tears many times more than once and continues to inspire me more than almost everyone. This is a wonderful film and testimony of his great love and faith. Thank you, so much.

Beautiful. Not knowing what it was, I drove by the Stanley Rother shrine a couple days ago, as it's in the process of being built here in South OKC. I already knew the rough outline of his story. This video helps.

Dar la vida por los que amas nunca es inútil por que el mismo Jesús dijo que el grano de trigo tiene que morir para después dar en abundancia

This is a powerful story to be shared. We know so little about the people we pass on the street, or an airport...and they are people always who have a story. Some stories however, are profoundly inspiring. Thank you Jayne Suess for sharing your cousin's life's story.
