    Living in a country (Denmark) where added bike lanes aren't an exception, but a rule, also in more rural areas, I'm amazed how you manage to get round in the traffic on a bike. According to a now former (Trump) Ambassador to Denmark: Carla Sands, we mostly use bikes because Danes can't afford to buy cars, and even our Royal Family are so poor that our Crown Prince has been seen riding with their children in a transport bike, with seats for them in front! We also have fast electric bikes to care about on our lanes, but only a few old bridges with added pillars as a hindrance for the traffic. I bought my Top-Brompton a few years ago, to able to bring it during vacations (Sadly my wife can't ride a bike anymore, being handicapped), and now the full titanium version has arrived, but only with 4 gears, so I'm not really tempted, but may add more titanium parts to mine, besides my new seat post and the original fork and back frame. ... like your relaxing video's about the Bromptons (will buy one sooner or later) and citytrips with your family (will visit NY sooner or later).
    Must say I'm shocked by the poor state of the roads in general and the lack of safe bicyclepaths.
    Greetings from the Netherlands!

      It's great for kids but the quality is average. If you want really good sushi there are great places in the city (but much more expensive).

    I also visited Mitsuwa by bike recently. Unfortunately there was a sign stating that bike were not allowed inside. We also rode the Henry Hudson Dr at Palisades Interstate Park. Around 9 miles one way and some of the road are pretty steep.

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a nice ride. It does get crowded there so I guess a bike would cause problems inside.

    Awesome vid guys. I live in MA so NY is a trip needing to be planned. Took my Brompton once from Port Imperial via ferry to Midtown and just biked along the Greenway to Brompton Junction and Battery Park.
    I’d like to do this ride with my son and try that revolving sushi place 😀 Is that segment from Fort Lee to Port Imperial that sketchy? Would it be better to turn around and head back to NY

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That area has sketchy roads so you have to be extra careful depending on the time. I would turn around and head back to NYC.

  • @fumeokid

    I wanted to see you and Shoko go back up that massive hill on Old River Road right before you get to the GWB! But you took the Ferry! Haha...I tried that hill twice.. once with the Brompton and once with my carbon fiber road bike..I still couldn't make it up a certain part and had to walk it! Great video! Where did you put your bikes at Mitsuwa?

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sections is a big climb lol. We will go back to check out the new bike lane again. Shoko went inside Mitsuwa while I took a break outside and kept an eye on the bikes. I don't think you have to worry about bike theft there since most people ride cars there and bikes are rare. Most bike theives wouldn't be looking to steal a bike there.

      @@BromptonFamilyTime From what I can tell from your videos , I think the cycling infer structure in New York is way better than in Boston and most of Massachusetts. Maybe that’s why I mentally gravitate towards New York.

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@garyphilip3382 I have been to Boston often when I was younger and I just remember the roads would have been nice to bike around. I have no idea about recently but it would be nice if they added bike lanes.

  • @FirstLast-jm4dx
    @FirstLast-jm4dx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    In the past, I used to announce "on your left" but there were quite a few times the cyclists in front ended up turning their heads around and turning their bike toward me (seems a fair number of cyclists can't maintain their line while looking back). Sometimes it seems safer to quickly pass when there's an opening.

    How do you find the gear ratios on the T line compared to the six gears of your other Brompton?

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The T-Line/P-Line 4 speed gear ratio is similar to the 2 speed. Perfect for the city. The 6 is nice if you need it, but the additional weight wasn't worth it for me. I couldn't get use to the two shifters either. I always paused before shifting.

    I don't know if your aware that they do a seat post insert for the main frame which you cut to size and insert it in the frame so when pulling saddle up it's has a stopping point for the correct height for that person, it might help to stop your partner having all the problems with getting the correct height which she likes.

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I use to use them, but since we switch saddles with our bromptons I can't use them. We switch bikes often when we ride so it doesn't work for us.

    Is there a big difference in how a folding bike feels compared to a normal sized bike?

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on the bike. But in general, small wheel bikes require more time to get use to how the steering will feel and you will need to avoid potholes.

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I am still adjusting it but so far it is comfortable on most rides. I plan on trying padded shorts to see if that does anything. I can ride 15 miles no problem but it does start to hurt after. Luckily most of my rides are shorter lol.
